Apple should, because in 10 years, ten of my friend wouldnt have a car but all those would have a house and domotics is coming.

forget time with stupid autonomous car guided by stupid GPS maps (yes, all arr so stupid that if you use it daily you will see mistakes everyday everytime in many roads)

but smart houses are coming

Surely a homepod which has a dock for iPad would be a better idea? - Having what would basically be a trimmed down iPad stuck to a speaker would be a disadvantage. Consumers would just think it is better to have an iPad.

It could have magnetic attachment from the iPhone 12, wireless charging, it would be a much stronger product IMO

I like Siri. Sometimes. She works great for a small number of things. But I’m extremely aggravated by how primitive she is in other, hugely important ways. There are too many areas where she is way too limited, or just bad, and needs immediate and swift improvement.

1. Actual voice recognition and dictation is way behind the other voice assistants. Trying to dictate a text to someone is still so hit or miss, it’s an exercise in frustration.
2. There needs to be a simple way to correct Siri’s mispronounciations of proper nouns like names, places, etc. This could be as simple as the ability to type in a word and then phonetically spell or speak outloud how it’s pronounced (or something else Apple comes up with)
3. There needs to be a simple way to teach Siri how you say a particular word. I text my friends about baseball games all the time, and none of us is able to get Siri to successfully write “pitcher” when we say that word. She always writes “picture”. Even though we are clearly, and emphatically, all saying pitch-er. This happens many times every day, with dozens of words that she confuses. It would be relatively simple to teach Siri how a user pronounces a worD, or two words that she confuses regularly.
4. Siri needs much better search capabilities, information recall, and information presentation. Right now, everything just sends you to Wikipedia. Which is barely acceptable on a phone or tablet or computer, but not even close to ok on a speaker or when you are hands free. Apple is missing a huge opportunity to cut into Google’s main business by making Siri cut into a large number of the querries people currently use Google for. Siri needs to be capable of summarizing information in plain English (or whatever language) and also present compelling visuals on devices with screens.
5. Siri needs to increase the number of types of things that she can do for a user, everything from answering homework questions to recipes.
6. Siri needs to be licensed to way more third party manufacturers and become a more ubiquitous brand.

I’m am beyond disappointed at how incomplete and underdeveloped Siri is, especially compared to a retailer like Amazon. I am also kinda surprised by Apple’s lack of pride and lack of competitive spirit when it comes to providing Apple coroners with the best possible experience.

AR glasses, a car, and whatever else Apple thinks it’s going to unveil in the future will all be doomed to failure without massive, wholesale improvements to Siri. The further and further Siri falls behind, the more Apple products with become beautiful shells that are hollow inside.

The only reason Siri is less capable is due to privacy restrictions. Google’s AI compromises your privacy and learns more about you in order to deliver more features/information. ( also for better advertising from selling that same information.)
It’s not just about learning about your habits. The google assistant can make phone calls and book reservations and hair dresser appointments, it can be on hold and then alert you when a real person has picked up at the end. It can answer a call and interact with the other party, to get information that will allow you to decide whether you want to continue with the call or not. That is smarts. The google assistant is just more advanced than Siri and it’s sod all to do with privacy. It’s because google have prioritised machine learning and AI and put more resources into it.

Siri's main problem is that it was never well defined. What is it supposed to be? A way to interact with existing Apple services like Music and TV+? A Star Trek computer forerunner to answer all your historical and trivia questions? An entertaining and fun companion? A digital assistant to take care of mundane household tasks like scheduling and ordering?

Any product that remains undefined is going to be a murky mess and do nothing well. I doubt the Siri team has clear guidance on success metrics if they cannot define what their product is supposed to be. I don't blame them or flame them - it's a product with almost limitless potential, but what's the next most important thing to build into Siri? Who knows?

Secondarily, how does Apple monetize Siri? At this point, with a two trillion dollar valuation, Apple needs new services and products that have a clear path to generate tens of billions in revenue. There aren't that many opportunities to generate that much revenue, which is why I think they canned HomePod Big Boy and AirPods Max may be limited. Those markets are just too small.

I don't see how Siri can generate that much cash either. We're not going to pay a subscription fee for a better Siri at this point and they cannot monetize it with ads. It's probably seen within Apple as "we have to be in the game for speech assistants, but we don't have to win the game."

This. And functionality seems to come and go. I’ve developed the impression that Apple has different Siri for different platforms. This is primarily what upset me about discontinuing HomePod. I was willing to put up with today’s inconsistencies because I thought there would be constant improvement. But if HomePod Siri just gets stuck where s(he) is now, it will be annoying.

Effing fix Siri.

Cue those who say it works all the time for them. I call BS.

You need to define the tasks here. Most things I'd have to imagine are mundane and simple.

It works all the time for me... when I use it to turn on/off lights. When I use it to tell me the temperature. When I ask for the score of a game. When I want to change my Ecobee temperature.

I would have to say Siri is inconsistent. I remember one time a month ago, I said in a normal speaking voice "Hey Siri, what's the weather?", expecting my iPhone to respond (which is in my hand), and my HomePod in the other room responds. Other cases where my iPad, iPod, and HomePod are all in the same room, and they take turns responding to questions. LOL
My homepods have been refusing to tell me the weather for almost a year. Now. If I say hey Siri’s what’s the weather like? It will say you’ll need to continue on your iPhone.

The only way I can get it to tell me what the weather is is by saying:

hey Siri’s what’s the weather condition in my location 🤷🏻‍♀️

A HomePod with an iPad attached. It will be expensive undoubtedly, but nothing is going to work for them until they improve Siri. When you compare the abilities of Google assistant to Siri, Siri is hands down in beta still. They dropped the ball there, to th epoint that I don;t think they can catch up.
I see comments like this all over the place, but never any solutions. Just complaining. What in your opinion should they fix?

If it’s simply to get “smarter” and learn more commands, what are you trying to have her do that she can’t? I hope you have “improve Siri” turned on in settings, because if you don’t, you have no room to complain.

That would be a great control-center concept (with HomeKit on the screen) and everything. If they can figure out how to make it 'affordable' (less than $199), that would be a nice addition.
Right, no arguments here, but realistically it will (in my opinion) be a $599 product.

Well double BS back at you! LOL. (name that movie).

I use it only for a few things, calling friends, controlling my lights, checking the weather, controlling my music, turning on and off the tv, and unit conversions (cm to inches etc.). It works for that just fine. I do NOT use it to tell me jokes or have conversations or buy things from amazon or even ask for the news or whatever. I tried Alexa, no doubt if you put the time in she does more, but I don't want to risk the invasion of my privacy, so I default back to the simpler Siri. Sure I wish it was smarter. But it does work for what I ask. All the time.

Call BS all you want, but Siri for me and many others on the HomePod and Mini works pretty well. I use it for personal requests, HomeKit and general inquiries. just like the the “Apple TV + has no good content“ crowd, statements like yours makes me think people spend 5 mins with a product, determine with little insight that it sucks and then spend their time online telling anyone that will listen that it isn’t worth their time. I read those posts, but wanted to experience if for myself. My experience is very different and I’m quite happy with Siri.

Why do I feel like Apple is coming up with these ideas 3-5 years after everyone else is already doing it.

Despite all the hand-wringing at the time (who needs a thousand songs in their pocket?), how did it work out for Apple introducing a pocketable music player and mobile phone?

Sounds like an issue with your setup. Just asked my HomePod what the weather was like and Siri gladly provided the info.

I bought a HomePod when it was "discontinued". I had to return it because I can't BlueTooth streamed audio from my iPhone or iPad to the HomePod. For example, if a WiFi connection is temporarily blocked due to congestion, the HomePod will be silent (the spinning circle).

The HomePod sounds good but it's not better than my Ultimate speakers I was going to replace with the HomePod.

I can see why the HomePod was discontinued.
But you can Airplay it...yes?

I agree with the hole “different Siri” theory. That feels super weird to me. Why they couldn’t all have the same backend, and just change a few interface elements based on platform. I wrote another post above with a more comprehensive list of needed improvements if you’re interested.

Copying Facebook. Ridiculous. I don't want a SCREEN nor a CAMERA on my HomePod. People are enough self-centered already! No innovation whatsoever.
