Isnt the butterfly keyboard issues isnt happening to macbook 12 inch?

the issues were happening to all models with butterfly keyboards, 12" macbook included.

I have a feeling that the 12" MacBook really is gone for good. The MacBook Air was the replacement.

the problem is the air isn't an ultraportable, it's not a replacement for the 12" macbook. maybe apple assumes people who loved the 12" macbook will move to the ipad now thinking ipadOS will bridge the gap to a laptop, but i don't think that's the answer. there is no real replacement for an ultraportable in the mac lineup now.

Same! Even at $799 I couldn’t justify the cost and size.
The Air uses the same processor as the 12” MacBook (just the current generation) and weighs about as much as the 13” MacBook Pro, and is only $200 cheaper.

Well that's a hell of a bummer. I bought a 13" Macbook Pro in late 2016 and I bought my wife a 12" Macbook when the mid-2017 refresh occurred and I ended up falling in love with the smaller design. I was intending on making a 12" Macbook my next computer when my 2016 MBP started showing its age, but it's looking like that won't be happening.

I'd go out and buy a 12" Macbook now but it's gonna be practically the same as the computer I have now performance-wise, making it a waste of money.

Good. 1 port blunder.

It’s called modularity for more portability. The MacBook was noticeably smaller than any Air, and, if you need more ports, put an adapter on your desk. That’s what I did, although I rarely use the adapter.

Too bad. That is the fabless model right? I always wanted one. I kept trying to convince myself I would learn to like the keyboard but it never happened
I disliked the keyboard on the 2015 and 2016 MacBook. The 2017 MacBook's keyboard, while not totally awesome, is a big improvement. Also, the chips in the 2017 models are way faster too, so aside from the lack of a second USB-C port, the 2017 had become a relatively mature product.

The two other things it needed IMO were a stronger feedback device for the touchpad, and a better FaceTime camera.

They could have replaced the headphone jack with a USB-C port. You can convert a USB-C port to a headphone jack with a dongle, or else just use Bluetooth. You can't convert a headphone jack to USB-C with a dongle.

Apple has replaced the 12” MacBook with the new iPad Pro. Add in the upcoming iPad OS features and the iPad will replace the functionality of the 12” MacBook for 99% of the target market.

Yes agree, but those who want a trackpad will still be left with bigger choices. I bought the 12" last month during the BB $500 off sale. even with this news, I am glad I did. Great device, with little compromise. Shame Apple didn't update, but expected. Ipad Pro has more a future based on their product plans.

I've been using an 11" 2011 Air as my main computer for school for many years now. I'm a middle school Robotics teacher, and tote my laptop between home and Schoo, to meetings, to robotics competitions, etc. I loved the small, light little 11" Air but given that it was 8 years old and only had 2GB of RAM, it was time for something new. I'd been using a 2016 12" MacBook (got it at Best Buy as an open box for $700) at home as my personal laptop, and I decided to give it a go as my new school laptop. It has been working out beautifully! The single port isn't really an issue to me at all; at my desk at school, I have a USB-C breakout hub with all my stuff plugged into it. When I get to school, I set the MacBook down, plug in the single port of the hub, and boom, everything on my desk is plugged in. I have the same thing at home. I have a couple of USB-A & USB-C flash drives for when I need to share stuff with other teachers, so the single USB-C port hasn't been any kind of issue at all. The performance is much better than my old Air (granted, it was getting very old), and being able to throw it in my bag and notice it even less than the Air was a godsend. I actually ended up getting a 2017 12" MacBook on sale for $800 to replace it at home, although I do toggle between it and a 2015 11" Air that I got off eBay for $400.

I'm a bit bummed to see the product go, but at the end of the day, it's a product. They come and go. I've always had a soft spot for small laptops; a 12" PowerBook got me all through college, and that machine was in turn replaced by the aforementioned 2011 11" Air. I'm sure something will come along in the future that gets my "OMG That's a small Mac I need this in my life!" juices flowing again.

I love my first gen Macbook but honestly, Apple should have never released this product. They should have just updated the 11 and 13 inch Air from the start with retina screen, reduced bezels and the Macbook form factor.

I got the gold but will definitely look for a cheap refurbished space grey since prices on these should drop.

Stop whining it comes back soon as an arm iPad Pro, haha ... now iPados makes even more sense!

Apple seems on a good way

I was really hoping they’d refresh this with Thunderbolt 3. This was my wife’s favorite machine. I replaced it with an Air for Christmas but I think she still prefers the form factor of the 12. Thunderbolt 3 plus a second port on the right potentially replacing the headphone jack would have been nice.

It did seem like the odd man out in the lineup though. My guess is that the Air was simply more popular. Anecdotally, I found the number of people who preferred the 12 over the 13 in terms of size to be quite the minority.

Whoa … nobody saw this coming!
I did! Stated it on this forum numerous times over the last several months. Seriously, why would Apple keep the 12" around when they've got the Air to replace it? Make's no sense. I say good riddance. It was a one-port dog anyway.

oh, and the last good mac laptop with a reliable keyboard is gone now too... rip mba13"!

Bought one last month for £799 brand new, they’ve been this price for the past month or so in the UK.

Fantastic computer. Super pleased with it. A great upgrade from the 11” 2013 MBA.

The mrs has ordered one at work too to replace a 2013 MacBook Pro. Her job has changed since she got that computer 6 years ago, the 12” is ideal for what she does now.

When you compare specs, I'm not really sure why anyone wouldn't be willing to pay $100 more for the 13" MBP with the quad core i5 over the 13" MBA. Unless they are poor of course, and if that is the case they shouldn't be buying higher priced machines in the first place. I would certainly pay the additional $100 to get the MBP. They may as well kill the MBA now as well.

Guess those profit margins were hella low

Seriously... base model aside, why buy a MacBook when you can get a better performing Air

Fanless was amazing for using it during meetings. My MacBook goes from meeting room to meeting room, and the hardest it ever gets worked is opening Outlook or watching some YouTube.

It was so light, quiet, and had decent battery life.

Would I ever buy it as my only Mac? No. But for 90% off clerical or office staff tasks, it was perfect.
