Also, iTunes 12.7 not longer sync's Nano run data with your Nike+ account. Nike suggests using an Apple Watch - using Nike Run Club app on my iPhone.
You could retro install iTunes to prior to 12.7 but that introduces other issues.

So to track my runs as my Nano has seamlessly done so for years, Apple (and Nike) is forcing me to buy a Watch. It's hard to view this cynically – forcing me to buy more Apple stuff. I refuse to carry my iPhone while running - for several reasons. This reminds me of the time AT&T and iTunes simultaneously stopped supporting the original iPhone about 4 years after launch.

The lack of support for syncing is "due to music and data management that has improved considerably over the last few years and iTunes no longer supports this older technology." ...I'm sure it could if they wanted it to.
As somebody who has used Nike+ since it was introduced in 2006, I feel your pain. There's no reason (other than greed) they should have removed the ability of iTunes to sync the iPod data to the Nike+ servers.

While it's not actually necessary to have your iPhone with you when using the Apple Watch for Nike+, I personally can't recommend that solution. I eagerly bought the Nike+ version of the watch, and the experience with Nike app has been miserable. It crashes frequently, and really struggles with workouts longer than about 10K. Ever since buying the watch, I've had to manually enter my workouts more than 50 percent of the time due to the fact that the Watch app failed to sync them automatically. In fact, they simply disappeared from the watch (and iPhone app) altogether.

I hope you figure out a solution so you can continue using Nike+ (if that's what you want to do). Me, I'm thinking of finally ditching Nike after all these years.

Starting to wonder when they'll not even support ripping a CD... they already ditched the internal optical drive from the laptops,,,, so how long before they excise the iTunes code to consider a CD at all?

Seriously, this wouldn't surprise me as I have long suspected that they wish to push the 'rentier' model of music consumption on their customer base.

Me, I like the idea that - once I have bought that CD - it is mine to do with as I please.

For now, as I have two external Superdrives, this is not an issue.

I haven't any external optical drive now now as I gave my Superdrive to a niece along with a MacBook Air awhile back... of which move your post reminds me now, so thank you... I need to get a spare back in the house.

There's still the issue of the software and questions of whether Apple might remove the rip-and-tag pieces of its software still inside iTunes now. Another move towards iOS-only features? I hope not.

On the other hand if Apple wants to get that far down the road to streaming only or indeed an iOS-only approximation of iTunes for other than mobile devices, iTunes is not the only maker of software that can serve as ripper, player, library management tool. That statement is near blasphemy for someone who's practically lived on iTunes since its day one, but time moves on and so must we all, if and when some toolbox changes enough so it no longer meets our own needs and preferences.

"Apple today removed the iPod nano and iPod shuffle from its website and online store around the world, and it has since confirmed the iconic portable media players have been discontinued."

Still have my old iPod Nano 7th gen though the battery life sucks. Guess I won't change the battery now. Lol.
