Apple Discontinues Pro Display XDR and $999 Stand

I mean if Apple were to ever revive the 27 inch iMac, they’ll have more than enough panels at that size. 😛

I have two 30" Studio Displays (yes, they're from 2004.) I love having a large matte screen a little further back from me. It's the same effective FOV as having a 27" at a conventional distance, but I like having more open space in front of me on my desk. Also, the distance is a little easier on my eyes.

Exactly! I have two old Cinema 30" monitors too and they are a perfect setup and very easy on the eyes. I spend over 12 hours a day in front of screens and I still don't wear glasses. I would like to see a regular Apple Studio Display in 32" size and at a fair price. So what do we have left now? Only Kuycon replicas, but it's really sad that Apple is pushing us in that direction.

34" x 71" holds a 14" MBP on a Rain Design mStand, two displays and an OWC 8-disk RAID system.

I doubt that anyone questions that it is a good product. I think that the question is whether or not it is sufficiently popular to justify continuing to make it. It is in an odd niche that is neither here nor there--it is too expensive for the typical consumer or office user, yet not up to the standards of a proper reference video monitor.

I think Apple thinks in terms of customer segments. It has a special segment for serious video production. I suspect a lot of work is done in advance of needing reference monitors and you can get what, five? XDR Pros for the price of a ref.

Apple was building software and hardware for these same professionals before the XDR. The company even did unusual collaborations with blackmagic and LG for the (underrated) eGPUs and ~terrible LG displays prior to Apple Silicon.

I just don’t see abandoning this group.
