Now they just will have to make all cables in aluminium to match today's machines...
And will the Air be renamed to just Macbook now?

I hope this makes my Macbook a novelty item! I hope spec wise (I upgraded it to 4gb) that it lasts at least 3-4 more years for me.

Think about it guys, what is your first move before releasing a new line of laptops? Exactly.

Care to say why?

I'll say why.

Smaller screen, who the hell does his/her work on a 11" screen, i always thought 13" was small, let alone 11"

Processor is slower
Videocard sucks
Less disk space, correction, much less disk space
No DVD drive so you'll have to pay another $79 for a separate one, wich will one use more space on your desk.

Okay so the HDD is faster, like i care, my macbook (brand new) runs better than my dads air, and i don't need to hookup some little box just so i can run a DVD to play my games, wich probably won't even work anyway, because those Intel graphics are just awefull

So the macbook had great graphics, then?

At least it was better than that ****** Intel crap they put in the Air...

maybe not GREAT graphics but it definitely worked for the average user. watching youtube, a few dvds, surfing the web thats great.

I think it was a horrible decision, so many people already thought macs were overpriced even with the macbook only 1000, but now you cant even get a decent notebook for that price. the macbook air is a netbook type thing, its not a serious computer and i'd never expect some 11 inch 64GB hardrive thing to live up to a 13" macbook with optical drive, 250gb hardrive(that can easily be upgraded), ram (that can be upgraded period).

I think it was a very poor choice on apples part. but what do i know, I'm not apple, maybe they really just weren't selling any. But the majority of people i know (unless they are actually in the arts, music production video) have macbooks, not pros, why??? because it's the cheap way to get an apple...few people are going to pay for the air. I'm sure air sales are/were far lower than macbooks, o well

Wait a minute, slower processor? Wasn't the macbook using a core 2 duo while the new air is using i5s and i7s?

Kinda crazy to finally see it go, but it completely makes sense. It's been the odd one out of the Mac family for a while now.

goodbye old friend, and goodbye to all the consumers who would have bought you and wont settle for the weak performance of the air for the price

I am not surprised that this white macbook was dropped. It doesn't really fit in with the rest of the lineup now. :p It was a great model while it was around though. I don't think the 11" air is really a replacement for it, with the smaller drive and no optical drive. I am guessing that next year when the MB Pro lineup gets updated, something will slide into the $999 spot. Optical drives are probably going to be dropped from all models soon, based on the Air and Mini not having one.

Very strange, they just renewed the design. There were lots of confusing moves with the Unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros earlier, and then the white MacBook coming back, and now it's gone again. I guess it didn't sell well enough.

The original white MacBook was a huge success, I had loads of student friends who had them. Those same people now have MacBook pros, maybe the price is now more affordable or something.

I like the new white MacBook, it looks so awesome and I like that it's white plastic. Sad to see it go, but it wasn't for me anyway.

You can buy mine! Then i'll just replace it by a macbook air with a smaller screen, smaller HDD, no optical drive, less RAM and a worse video card!

See the irony in there? Makes me sad..

Still using my 2 yr MacBook and installing Lion now. I have put some miles on this machine. MacBook pros is the next road trip or should I say safari... Sorry:cool:

The new 11" MBA carries a 1.6GHz i5 or a 1.8GHz i7 BTO.

Jus' sayin'

You wouldn't be able to use the full benefit of the i7, especially at 1.8Ghz. The difference in performance would be minimal as the OS X UI relies heavily on the graphics card, which is very poor in the Air.

The baseline Air is no where near as powerful as the baseline White MacBook was. To give you an idea, a 3 year old White MacBook was still more powerful than the newest baseline Air.

Jus' sayin' ...

Yes, the macbook had a 2.4ghz core2duo yes. Wich is still faster than the 1.8ghz i5 that the 11" macbook air carries

No it's not. Sandy Bridge processors are faster clock for clock than Core 2 Duo chips. Isn't the mhz myth dead yet ? Also, note that my MBA has the same 320m GPU that the MacBook had.

Yes, but if you haven't noticed the iPad isn't a laptop... or even a computer at that. :apple:

Of course it isn't, it doesn't need to be and that's what's making the iPad insanely popular. My point was  doesn't need to make a cheaper entry laptop when the iPad more than satisfies those that would want something basic like a netbook. If someone wants more than what the iPad offers, move up to the Air. If not, buy a PC.

If you would have paid more attention to previous posts, you might have noticed that i made a typo and was talking about the 1.6Ghz i5 CPU, that aside, of course the mhz myth is dead, but that has nothing to do with what i was saying.

If you look at rmwebs post just above yours, you'll understand what i am talking about ;)

And yes, you're MBA has the same 320M GPU as the late MacBook, but did it cost as much as well? No, it didnt, and that's what this is about, it's about replacing a well functioning laptop with an under-specced netbook.
