Actually Apple was reassured by selling a boatload of iPhone SE, even though I only bought one of them.

As for drinking the Kool-Aid: perhaps you and some others have been deluded into thinking that because you have no use for an iPhone SE, that means anything to the manufacturer or to happy consumers.
There we go jumping to conclusions....I OWN ONE!

Just bought one on the 27th. I know I'm still (barely) within the two week return period. Could I still get a $50 refund somehow?

....the SE is not and never has been billed as flagship device. It's 90% of the features at 65% of the price. It's Apple's first true mid-range phone.
The second, after another great phone: the iPhone 5c.

However, for both the iPhone SE and iPhone 5c the base storage models (16GB for the SE, 8GB and 16GB for the 5c) are not/were not "mid-range." Only the highest storage tier models are/were. And they're not market mid-range priced but much closer to market flagship priced. Nonetheless, they're terrific products.

I love mine as well. I still plan on getting a iPhone 7 Plus but the SE will be my on the go device. The Plus will just be too big for everyday usage outside of the home. It's basically my iPad replacement but can replace my SE when needed especially for the camera at special events.
That's what I did. Though I did get a Note7 to be my phablet. It's been recalled but will be replaced by another one. I still have my 6S Plus. So I have three smart phones.

I love my SE but I have filled up almost all of the 64GB's. I wish I could just load in an SD card. But I'll back stuff up to the cloud and free up my GB's again.

If there's ever an update I hope it's going to be an increase to 256GB's and some water resistance. I'm fine with the display and everything else. I would wish for the new iPhone 7 camera but I don't know if I would really want that until I see sample photos and real world testing.

And for petes sake keep the headphone jack on it!

I prefer the SE form over the 6/6S. Aside from the difference in size I find the shape of the 6 is too slippery and I worry about dropping it.

But I also want to have 128GB in the SE. oh well...

I hope Apple continues to refesh the 4 inch iPhone. It seems to fit well with a certain demographic and its future looks promising with the right measures.

LOVE the SE. I'll take one in Jet Black or Copper.

Heck I'd take a product red SE or any of those anodized aluminum colors they stuck on ipods for awhile. I'm getting tired of the metal-metal look of phones again. It's what drove me to the 5C in the first place. Why does an iPhone have to be so dead serious when so much of what we do with them in free moments is sheer fun? It's sad to have to resort to a case to convert "professional" into something a little more casual. But hey, whatever keeps the global economy going... the case industry must love Apple's addiction to metal look.

And for those of us that don't care about those alleged "features" and would actually like a phone that fits in our hands, the SE is exactly what we want.
No, it's not really what you want, it's what you've been forced to have with Apple neglecting the 4-inch device.

*strokes 64GB SG SE*
Yes Essie, you ARE the phone I want. Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you different.
Had you the choice of an all-new 4-inch from the following, you would choose SE?
Somehow I doubt that very much.

All-new ceramic glass iPhone 8 - 5.5-inch - $699
All-new ceramic glass iPhone 8 - 4.7-inch - $599
All-new ceramic glass iPhone 8 - 4-inch - $499
iPhone SE (aka iPhone 5 Series 3) - 4-inch - $399

Tell that Essie its days are numbered. :D

Ugh. I can't believe they actually RAISED the price of the 16GB iPhone SE in the UK. Up £20 from £359 to £379.

I had told people to hold off on buying the SE as I seriously expected a significant price drop for the base model once the iPhone 7 came out, like most years. Now they are having to pay even more than if they had bought just before the keynote.

All I want is the SE with 7 internals and same cameras. Why can't this happen!!!
Well, I don't.

I wouldn't mind having such a great camera on the SE, it would be fantastic, but it simply doesn't fit on it. It is impossible.

Regarding the processor, I have the impression that the A10 fusion is too energy demanding for the battery of the SE, and I wouldn't sacrifice the battery life of the 4" iPhone for more of processing power. The A9 is already fantastic in that regard.

There is nothing wrong with that, you like what you like.

Although, the problems with the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 is not just visual things.

The squared edges of the 4 and 5 made the iPhone a lot easier to hold, especially with one hand. Having the power button on the top of the phone felt more natural than the side. I am always changing my volume settings with locking my iPhone 6s Plus.

There is also the camera bump, bendgate, soldergate, and touch disease.

While some of these issues could be fixed with a case, that just adds a bunch of new problems.
Yeah the power button on the side is the worst ever!! The 4s was a great phone but I really love the 6 and Im sure I will love the 7, I can upgrade for just $200! I went to see how the iPhone 6 plus felt in my hand yesterday and the plus is just too big. I still have my 4s and its just too small..if you got a case with some grip I bet you'd like the 6/7?

I may be wrong but I think expanding the storage on the SE would be pretty easy for apple to do, and I imagine they'd leave the headphone jack as is? That said I bet you'd like the 7 with a grippy case?
Heh and for pete's sake,,that's such a "mom" thing to say!

We don't really need 64gb, but 16 was too small for the future. This will push me to upgrade our 5S phones. But the 5S trade-in is only $90 from VZ. Should I save one as an emergency spare?

It could help with some of the issues of the 6/6s/7, but the phone is all ready big enough, with a case, my 6s Plus would be huge. I really don't like cases anyways for many reasons.

I have the 128GB 6s Plus, with Apple Care. I might just sell it, and deal with the lower storage size of the SE.

Sorry, with respect, exactly what are you taking about? iPhone SE does not have all of the specs the iPhone 6s.

iPhone SE is a device that was old news from day one. SE has a lesser display, no 3D touch, a slower first generation Touch ID, lesser FaceTime camera, no barometer, old design, etc.

Bring an all new 4" ceramic glass, no protruding camera, no antenna lines iPhone!
Yup, the front assembly is old (aka 5s). The design might be old but it is a design many people actually prefer. Of course, for people who can't be seen walking around with anything old, that might be a problem.

As for a one-handed phone, the 6s plus is too big for me. Plus the rounded edges causes the phone to slip out of my hand. Trying to take one handed photos is a pain for me.
Try the volume buttons for one-handed photos.

yeah the plus is too big..I was speaking of the 6/7 form factor

Have you not been paying attention to the keynote and follow up? There is no room in the SE form factor to do what you want. One of the great advantages of moving to the larger form factor is the ability to use more space inside the phone. The small form factor is one of the limiting factors that made apple fall behind others in terms of features.

Wow.

Now just add a 128GB model.

My guess is they're going to clear these out by March and introduce a new 4" 7.

But why drop the price now? This only encourages more lower end purchases, especially since this still has the headphone jack.

Don't see this helping Apple's sales figures.

They need to compete against the many Android phones which are quite good and start at $399. This is a great phone and frankly I would encourage many people to buy this over the 7 at $749 (for the 128gb which is the size I would encourage folks to buy).

Try the volume buttons for one-handed photos.

I have been doing this for years with the older iPhones, and have tried with my current one but pressing it causes a slight jerking of the phone and it blurs my picture.

For example: Four months ago today, my newest daughter was born prematurely after my wife had preeclampsia and starting having heart failure, and then having an emergency C-section.

My wife was in the hospital for weeks without being able to see her little 2 lbs. baby. I spent all my time either seeing my wife, or my daughter in the NICU.

While doing the skin-2-skin with her, I would try to take pictures of us with my iPhone to send to my wife. The one handed pictures were extremely hard to do, and sometimes I would drop my phone from the round slippery edges. Using the volume buttons one handed would cause the phone to jerk slightly and make the photo blurry.

I think it is good while sitting down, with two hands on it. But, for me, it was not designed well for 1 handed use.

The guy you responded to said it had no 3D touch. I'd also say that that 3D touch is the only feature missing between the SE and the 7. Display is good enough. A faster touch ID is nearly useless since first generation was fast enough. Many people almost never use the FaceTime camera. Many people never use barometer. The "old design" is very arguably better looking than the current design. Camera is good enough, though here I'd have to see pictures from the 7 as maybe they are better. Obviously I'm not comparing to Plus because anyone who is interested in the SE must not want a super large phone.

The SE is a great phone and many people can now get enough storage for their needs (64gb is the sweet spot for me) at $300 less than an iPhone 7 with enough storage. That is a pretty serious cost savings. I'd advise people to strongly consider it if they need a new iPhone.

However, would love to see a new high end 4" as well like you describe.
