This makes me a proud Apple customer. I've been wondering why this has not got more attention (in NA)
Because the Amazon burns routinely every year. Part of a natural cycle. But econazis have to pretend everything is unnatural these days.

Brazilian president told Germany: Keep your money and plant trees in your own country.
I wonder want he thinks about this.
Haha yep! That was glorious.

It’s all fake just shows what celebs do now days make up stories and people believe it all the photos are fake and the story is fake https://www.forbes.com/sites/michae...the-lungs-of-the-world-is-wrong/#545bbc815bde

I would suggest you actually read the article. All the quotes are from articles written in the 90's and early 2000's very few of them after 2015. The author has cherry picked the information to slant the information to his obvious conservative view point. He also fails to mention that the land that is burned is being used to raise cattle. These cattle while being raised produce a lot of methane gas which is one of the major greenhouse gasses. So this is a fake Forbes article.

if you don't plan to tell people how much you donate... then why even post it then??

is getting recognition online more important than the act itself?
Of source it is! That's why Apple brags about it, it is all about making yourself look good - pathetic!

Also, it is a natural thing for the forest to burn and rejuvenate itself. These yahoos are trying to stop a natural cycle.

The rainforest does not generate any net oxygen. That is a common myth that most news sources would check before repeating. The animals that live there and the natural decay of plants consumes all of the oxygen produced.

BTW, I’m a democrat. Não somos nós que sejam educados? Pô

Its immediate and market value is not in any of those things, or the few brief years that poor soil can be farmed. Its extremely dense, diverse, and unique ecology is the biggest untapped pharmaceutical treasure chest in the world. In a functioning market, Brazil would lease access to it, and scientists worldwide would spend centuries scouring it, with pharma companies paying royalties back to Brazil to fund its security and continuing to preserve it. But we do not have a functional market, so it makes more sense for a handful of people to burn it all down for all time, to score a few more years of selling more low quality hamburgers to United Statesians, who really need to eat more red meat because heart disease isn’t killing everyone and healthcare costs aren’t on track to bankrupt the entire nation.

Since these fires are largely normal and hyped by the media for "climate change" issues, don't believe the media hype, its All #Fakenews, with an occasional article pointing out some actual facts, but you have to look hard to find it.

You're wrong. Fires are normal but this was a man-made fire. There is no fake news but Fox News.

What does being a democrat have to do with this? What does political positions have to do with any this? Like the trees and animals that are dying care about a humans politics or beliefs.
Also why does anyone (Apple) talk about what/why they donate to whatever cause? I donate to what I believe in and don’t talk to anyone about it because others opinion doesn’t matter.
Maybe I don’t understand humans need for constant attention.

This clears up a lot of misinformation about what is happening in the Amazon:
https://www.forbes.com/sites

...Forbes? I’m sure you could find some great scientific works on the Wall Street Journal too. If you want to know how something works, do you look at:

A. Peer-reviewed scientific journals complete with error margins that will give you a full view of matters.
B. Political & business ideology peddlers written by and for people with minimal scientific literacy, attempting to prop up that ideology by cherry picking & misrepresenting factual data anywhere they can.

So. How much are donating? Because if you are not donating, what right do you have for criticizing others.

Interesting theory. Where are your sources to back it up.

I wonder why he said Latin America. Isn’t the Amazon only in South America? Sounds like the fires are mostly confined to Brazil.

I was thinking that these tech giants could easily outspend the 30 million or so that all of the crappy governments have put forth.

I can’t believe (well actually I can) Apple is participating in this globalist ******** agenda. This has nothing to do with the fires and everything to do with with the leftist globalist elite trying to oust Bolsonaro a right winger.

There have been fires before. Fires worse than now and there was no outcry. Because the government was socialist. That’s the only reason you are hearing about the fires now.

As you can see. The plans are already afoot with calls for economic sanctions. On Brazil.

Wow...just....wow. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths that some will go to make the unreality they've bought into feel justified. I mean I guess I understand. It must feel really bad to confront the idea that nearly everything you're told is is wrong or a lie designed to manipulate you into thinking exactly the way you do. That is not comforting at all, and people like comfort.

I see people arguing that fires were even worse years ago. The problem is which is causing these fires. If they're caused by illegal exctractivist practices, it's currently higher perhaps because Bolsonaro is signalling that he'll be tolerant with these practices. There are also commercial implications in this discussion since Mercosul just settled a commercial agreement with EU that could produce a trade deficit to Europe in agricultural products. So, in terms of diplomacy, Bolsonaro should clearly state that he's controlling fires and won't be tolerant with deforestation. I can't see how uttering rude answers to media and governments can make things better to Brazilian economy.

Perhaps Bolsonaro expects that Trump will provide a new Marshall Plan that will bring prosperity to Brazil, like USA brought to Europe and Japan after WWII. I really doubt about that because even USA is facing economic difficulties related with deindustrialization and hence unemployment. USA still has a strong financial arm, but there is a challenge to improve domestic production. There's a different scenario than Marshall Plan era, so I wonder which economic benefit Brazil gets from USA that he wouldn't get from the Mercosul-EU Agreement, even more considering Brazilian production is mostly based on agriculture and extractivism (both stuff that USA is more or less self sufficient). My guess is Bolsonaro government will collapse hugged on Trump ideology, but without the economic benefits Trump is bringing to US with his protectionist policies.

and earth is flat...sorry but don't be surprised when the stereotype of american is ignorant.
It's not acceptable to be so clueless in a western free country.

You don't get to decide what science is, you never put enough effort in your life so just accept this, focus in what you are good at and don't play the part of the guy who knows it all.

p.s. climate change is not a science, is just a phenomena that different science fields are observing, a science is not a political believe, is a method to exclude personal believes and interest from researches.
Never claimed to know it all so don't put words in my mouth I didn't say. The cool thing about science is that it's right even when you're wrong and so far there's no evidence that this is anything more than whatMs been going on for millennia

I’m sorry I don’t argue with flat earthers and climate change denials, your argument come from an emotional place, you just said there is a change going on since millennia and then you also say nothing is happening. And you claim all of this by knowing nothing on the topic except read some articles on internet without the ability to verify the source and cherry picking what drives your emotional intent. Don’t even mention the word science.

THANK YOU. I am left-leaning but the thing about science is that it's fact, not political. The "lungs" myth is ******** because the forest respirates as much oxygen as it produces. I think another commenter on this thread posted an article that goes into more detail. But it works both ways. Climate change is real and is beyond any reasonable doubt caused by human activity, but we should be listening to the same scientists sounding the alarm about the climate when they also debunk climate change myths. The Amazon is a very special and delicate jewel of our planet and of course we should do everything we can to protect it, but we also need to make sure we're going after the real threats we're facing right now. Politicians and the media fanning the flames of an already hot topic (sorry, no pun intended I swear) with false information will not do anything to solve the crisis we currently have.

Forests burn all the time and, in fact, many of them literally could not exist without regularly occurring fires. They've survived ice ages, asteroid strikes, and even nuclear fallout. The Amazon will be fine.

Climate change is junk science

I see you put a lot of effort in voicing your opinion. Congrats.
Because the Amazon burns routinely every year. Part of a natural cycle. But econazis have to pretend everything is unnatural these days

Because everything IS unnatural these days. The planet has to support almost 8 billion people. And we’re all very busy cutting forests, draining swamps, driving animals into extinction, messing up rivers and oceans, .... all at an alarming rate. Maybe you don’t care about this, but many do. And no. The current fires are not all natural. Most are caused by humans that want to clear the land.

Never claimed to know it all so don't put words in my mouth I didn't say. The cool thing about science is that it's right even when you're wrong and so far there's no evidence that this is anything more than whatMs been going on for millennia

How do you know the climate has beeen changing for millennia? Right. Climate scientists. And when they warn something is very wrong now, you don’t believe them? That’s called cherry picking. Why is it so hard to understand the basic science behind it? It’s not that hard if you put the effort into it. You also claim there’s no proof. Wrong. There’s plenty of proof. How long will you keep ignoring the facts? Simply because your political views are in the way. Look at the science first.

The Amazon will not necessarily be fine. It’s great you’re able to lie to yourself like that. But frankly, it’s a bit disgusting how people discuss the Amazon in terms of net oxygen. What’s in it for me?

If the Amazon is burning at a much higher rate than previous years and this trend continues (because of the combination of the right nationalist agenda of the government and climate change), we do have a major problem on our hands.

Did you even read my comment, or just stop once you got to the part where maybe I didn't 100% satisfy you and the Twitterverse? Because I actually said the Amazon is a precious piece of the planet and should be preserved as much as humanly possible, it's just not being affected by climate change. Not yet anyway. Celebrities have been posting pictures of what they think is happening in the Amazon, but actually they're photos from other Amazon wildfires over the years. So, yes, it will be fine.

Facts, people! They won't hurt you I promise! If anything they'll enlighten you.

Shocking how many even on this site don’t give a stuff about environmental and wildlife devastation that is going’s on.

Humanity is beyond all hope if the attitudes on display really are what people think. Truly sickening .
