Bose must have been the biggest advertiser on A&E way back then. Non-stop commercials for that little audio system.
I bought the soundlink mini 2 bluetooth speaker for 179 and its amazing. Plus I own the homepod. Both are for different purposes obviously. People who want decent sound quality will pay for it. Theres even a market for speakers that cost thousands. So 2-300 for a decent speaker isn't crazy as so many try to lead others to believe.

no thanks

To bad for you. Anyone who bashes the HomePod clearly has never heard one or two even better. Honestly the best sounding speaker I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned quite a few. For the sound quality and software upgradable. They are worth double.

There is only one reason to cut the price, and that's because it's not selling. It really is that simple.

Can't use as a plugged-in (wired) speaker. So, No thanks.
As is, maybe i'd bite the bullet for 50 EUR. Ports happen to be a "thing" for some of the market segmentation.

Not sure anymore what market segment Apple is aiming for.

I'm sorry but if the HomePod is the best sounding speaker you've ever owned, you know nothing about solid Hi-Fi systems. I have a set of Acoustat Model 3's that would blow your mind. HomePod is straight garbage in the world of Hi-Fi. Spare me the...but, but, but, HomePod is portable and has Siri speech.

You are good with a speaker reporting home (to who or whatever home is) on you and yours?

Others here will list as a ‘flop’ now because Apple dropped the price. Anyone that’s experienced the HomePod, knows exactly what this speaker is capable of producing in terms of quality sound. I don’t regret purchasing mine for the Original $350 price point.

Same here. One of my most enjoyed and used Apple products.

Makes sense. Yea I don't really look at $100 in either direction as a major swing for me. I looked at features and what I wanted from a speaker and decided the HomePod was best for me. I've been really happy with both of mine.

That's the way I approached it when I purchased mine a little more than a year ago.

$100 isn't going to drive my purchase decision on a product that superbly meets my needs and is used hours every single day. That's two tankfuls of gas.

A well-reasoned comment. Given the opening up of Airplay2 onto TVs and Homekit requiring only a simple software certification - I wouldn't be surprised to see it become useable as a Bluetooth speaker - which it should have been from day 1 really and they would have sold more.

Can't say I'd like Google listening in though. Their T&C for mic use is sketchy at best.
You know you can go into your Google account and see/listen to every recording Google picked up from the hub and delete that information as well

Exactly....the HomePod sounded much better than I had expected but it is no where in the same realm of higher end speakers. Here in Utah, I had opportunities to listen to Tektons and even Wilson Audio speakers, and though these are definitely in upper price ranges, they blow the HomePod out of the water.

Maybe he meant to say best sounding speaker in the price range?

I have had 2 HomePods in stereo and a Naim mu-so, and I still preferred the Naim. Again, the HomePods sounded great but the Naim had a fuller sound

I'll stick with the Amazon Echo Plus at half the price still. At 199 is when i might consider a HomePod.

Are you kidding? The sound is amazing but their whole app/ecosystem is a disaster - It's terribly integrated with Apple Music, it takes so many steps to connect a new phone to the system, it's slow, etc. The interfaces suck, glitchy, etc. Just bad.
"Alexa, play Summer playlist on Sonos Kitchen." Starts playing in three second from my phone.

Still no thanks, unless they start to include a control knob to adjust the bass
Did you think the bass was too much or too little? When I first got mine I thought it was way too much, i immediately went on their site to give feedback and ask for ability to adjust the bass. Either it grew on me, adjusted to the environment, or software updated changed it, but I actually really like it now. I got it on sale for under 200 and am very happy with it.

Couldn’t care less. What ever the speaker sends Apple (which I’m pretty sure is secured)
But if they secretly want to know when I turn my lights on and what tv show I’m watching. Whatever. Don’t you believe for a second your cable company doesn’t know what you watch or DVR.

Can I get a $100 back on the two I've already bought?

I can’t believe that question took so long to come up. If you bought them 14 days or less ago yes. Otherwise no and nor should you.

You're totally missing the point. Outrage is the new currency. People wouldn't feel alive if there wasn't something to be outraged about!

Spot-on assessment. Expressed outrage provides a short blip of power that's otherwise lacking in some people.

I will say this, after owning every smart speaker know to man...the HomePod is the best sounding and the best value out of everything currently on the market. It truly is amazing. It’s the best purchase I’ve made in years.
