It takes courage to:
  • Design and Engineer a product that has been acknowledged, might not last...
  • Endorse phenomenal waste i.e. should a detachable part of an expensive device not last through bad design, let’s replace the whole device instead of just the detachable part!
  • Remove headphone jacks from devices.
  • Choose NOT to stand up to Communist China while banging on about privacy and social justice/LGBTQ+ whatever else issues
I thank you and goodnight.

There's a major problem Apple has overlooked with this sizing guide. They haven't specified how to measure your wrist.
Believe it or not, but you can get a different measurement depending on whether or not your wrist is palm up or palm down. Don't believe me? Try it yourself.

This is due to how the radius rotates inward (palm down) and outward (palm up). Your palm up measurement can be 5mm or so larger, but it can be even more than that. Varies widely from person to person. The thickness of tendons and other tissue may also impact it, but primary is the inward rotation of the radius when the palm turns downward.

Major human anatomy oversight fail, and their updated guidelines still don't account for it.

I'm not sure I see how the solo loop was ever a very good idea. What problem was Apple trying to solve? Seems that they have created problems instead.

Not a great start to the solo loop. I’m already put off buying one.

I prefer the Sport Loop over anything else as I can tighten or loosen it whenever I want. Honestly, this looks like a horrible idea on Apple’s part. The sizing portion just looks like a pain on top of an insane return process. I would be surprised if Apple flat out cancelled these things, but perhaps they aren’t ready for prime time.

Why would anybody want this band anyways?
when it fits right like mine, super easy to put on, really good fit, much better than any normal buckle...really good for working out, ecpecially boxing...the watch finally just stays in place when I‘m lifting and boxing...which were my biggest gripes with my watch 4

What is the appeal of this band other than it being harder to size, put on, and take off? Is it really that much more comfortable?
Yes very comfortable! Try one you will see. Almost like not wearing a watch at all.

Is there an actual table of the exact lenghts of each size anywhere? Then I could just easily compare against my old strap and wouldn't bee too surprised.

How much stretch are we talking about? After I exchanged for a smaller size. I'm quite happy with it (for now).I guess we'll see how well it holds up in a few months of daily wear.
I took some time to get used to it

I don’t think these are a bad product. They just didn’t get the sizing guide right somehow and they need to rethink how the combos are sold if they can’t or won’t process a return/exchange on bands sold as part of a watch order. And the fine print warnings should be left as part of the product description so there are no surprises for people who don’t read fine print.

But the band itself solves problems for people with allergies to the metal parts of the sports bands. Or who have problems putting standard bands on.

FFS people it's a watchband. I ordered one with solo. If size is wrong, I am sure Apple will deal with it, despite all the WWW panic.

How about they fix it so that if someone gets the wrong size band they can just exchange it without exchanging the whole watch?

That seems to be the biggest issue.
Gruber had some great thoughts on this—essentially, the pandemic is kinda screwing over the majority of people’s ability to try these on in-store and actually get a perfect fit. A piece of paper can only do so much. [READ: this does not change how absolutely aggravating it is that people with an ill-fitting band have to replace the whole damn thing. But, he makes some interesting points about the logistics of it all in the current times.]

Perhaps the most straightfoward point (emphasis added by me): “So again, like buying shoes, there’s no substitute for trying them on in person. Which, alas, is not an option for a lot of us at the moment.

Mine is very comfortable and I appreciate the simplicity. Unfortunately in size 10, it is just slightly looser than I normally run. All sensors work fine, but I prefer a bit more snug fit- though this doesn’t slip at all. I also like how it’s not “sticky” unlike most silicones. Ordered a green sport loop to replace the black I received with the Series 6, in size 9, to solve this, long-term.
