If you read the text under the chart you would've noticed that they all work, just don't necessary match. Apple isn't going out of their way for anything here..

You don't think they are pushing the Apple watch ? I think it's a very aggressive makerting campaign.

I wanted the stainless with link band but too much money.
I'm looking at the sport to get in the door since the tech is the same but I wonder about the ion glass on the sport versus the sapphire on the watch series. My iphone is scratch free and I assume the sport will be at least that durable but I don't know.

Also, I want the black band if I have to go sport and that is another $50 so really I would save $150 on a sport plus black band versus buying the stainless with black band then later updating. Choices....

I didn't realize we'd be able to try it on that early. Unfortunately I'll be in KC (which has a couple Apple Stores) a few days before this. Guess I'll have to wait until I go to Houston in May to check it out. Maybe that's for the best. I might just end up preordering it but I'd like to give it some time and see how durable the aluminum/glass black sports model is. Please be my guinea pigs. ;)

I feel like with the Apple Watch—more than any other Apple device up to this point—you really need to try it for yourself before you can decide if it's for you. It's so personal and different than anything else that Apple has made.

"Bands work with all collections but may not match the finish of the watch or be optimal for use with that specific collection."

The bold part most likely refers to galvanic corrosion, by combining stainless steel and aluminum in the presence of sweat (salt).

Groce. That leads me to wonder if the SS version would be good for the gym.

I was deadset on the black SS with Black link bracelet until they unveiled the pricing. Gray Sport it will be I guess. If it takes off and I really like it I will upgrade to black SS.

This is exciting news though I have been waiting several years for this, just hope it's at least half of what I envisioned.

And now, as a Specialist, you are officially a peasant. Helping rich people try on their watches. It's sad.

My favorite part of this will be customers asking Specialists which watches and bands they have, and realizing that they are too poor to have bought one themselves, and Apple is to cheap too give them out a la iPods or the first iPhone.

They are pushing the watch aggressively. I assumed the poster was referring to pushing the "Apple Watch" (SS specific) vs the "Apple Watch Sport". If you look at the chart, without reading the text below it, you would think they are trying to push more users towards the more expensive SS watch for a wider range of bands. Fortunately, that is not the case.

Of course they want customers to buy the more expensive watch.

Save $$

Well here is some advice….

If you can live without an “Apple” official band, do so!! Buy the lowest cost watch in the category you want and then buy a 3rd party band that will match your taste. There are already 3rd partys making the Apple Watch bands. One site is Casetify. There will be many people selling watch bands for the Apple Watch.

If you look at the prices for the bands they are plain stupid. You can buy the Apple Watch and not pay $149, $249 or $449 for a watch band.

Why do I say this? I’ll use the $449 stainless steel link as an example. Google “stainless steel” “watch band” and you will see that most of these are under $100. There is no excuse for a watch band to cast $499 or for a watch band to cost more than an Apple Watch Sport…. There is not anything special about the Apple Watch Stainless Steel link band other than Apple made it.

So buy the sports band version and then get a 3rd party watch band(s) to suit your taste. You will save up to $499.00. (I would also recommend the Apple Care for the Apple Watch, it’s on your wrist and when we move we bang into stuff.)

The Apple Watch “Entrance Models (lowest cost watch band)” for the aluminum and Steel prices are :

aluminum 38mm: $349
aluminum 42mm: $399
steel 38mm: $549
steel 42mm: $599

Get the sports band and buy a 3rd party steel link watch band once they are there. Tons of people are going to be making Apple watch bands, some are out there already.

The link band is a complete rip off. $499

So basically what I exoected all along. The models shown on Apple's website are what will be for sale and if you want something else you buy an additional band.

I think Apple is in a tough spot here. I tend to be a fanboy that buys everything Apple, but in this case, maybe not. My reason is that I don't want to pay big bucks for a beautiful stainless steel watch, only to have it be obsolete in a year.

What I think Apple should do is have either a trade-up program, or a guts replacement program. Because it will be relatively cheap to replace whatever the next gen electronics are, but the quality materials, or stainless steel and sapphire, etc. are the things that are both expensive and enduring. Why not let us keep that investment?

So that makes me only want to buy the sport model at the lowest possible price, if at all, until Apple explains how they are going to fit Moore's Law in to a Luxury Watch!!!

Who designed this chart?

Come on...its so much easier to remember when it is listed like this

Yes, except the combinations shown in that chart are the only available combinations. Apple will not sell the Watch Sport with the leather band.

A true Apple aficionado would buy it anyway and then buy another one when it is updated. :p

Yes, except Apple is not selling the Watch without a strap, so you end up paying for a strap that you will later throw away. Quite annoying.
