Poor 3rd-Party Stuff

I'm sure there's a lot of teeth-gnashing going on in '3rd-Party' land: "Ooooohhh...are they gonna yank my stuff off the wall to make room for their umpteen gazillion bands and watches?"

I think Apple is in a tough spot here. I tend to be a fanboy that buys everything Apple, but in this case, maybe not. My reason is that I don't want to pay big bucks for a beautiful stainless steel watch, only to have it be obsolete in a year.

1) There will be a huge used market for this product. (Assuming there isn't some massive flaw with the product.)

2) You need some kids/nieces/nephews/poor friends that would gladly take a used apple watch for their birthday.

3) Not really big bucks when you compare it to the price of a GPS a few years ago, the initial cost of an iPhone with max memory, or even many cross country airline flights.

I don't see the price a big deal for someone who wears it everyday. I know many people who can blow more than the price of the watch in a single weekend at bars/clubs/casinos.

What I don't get: There are people who upgrade their beautiful smartphones every year. But when it comes to upgrading beautiful watches every year, there is some kind of psychological problem with that, even though the watches are cheaper than the smartphones.

Not always true, I bought a new iPhone 4S (a year ago, without contract) for about €50 less than this Apple Watch.

Edit: Actually it is €100 less, just checked out the German store, it sells for €399, got my iPhone 4S for €299

Apple really is going out of its way to make us think we need an :apple: Watch

I don't think they need to go out of their way. Most of the posters before you are already set to buying one. If it's not for you then it's just not for you but don't act like Apple has some nerve trying to encourage people to buy the product they are selling.

A few.. :D

I do like lime green actually but on a girls thong, not my wrist. :D (maybe an iPad cover lime green too.) :D
Personal preference.

No argument about about the thong. :D But I can see the lime green band being cool for a sport watch.

You have the right idea! I was planning to have 2 curved barbell piercings installed right into my wrist to attach it without a band.

I want the sport edition with no band so i can put it on a necklace. Just kidding. I'm going to get the sport edition with the bands included. Pretty simple

Maybe because you need a smart phone and it has the time. This watch you need the smart phone for it to work so you're in fact buying two items.

Why has no one mentioned the fact you will have to schedule an appointment to try the watch on.

One of the perks of working at an Apple Store if you're an iFan is you get access to all the goods before other people and get to play with them on a slow day. If you're gonna do retail, not a bad option

I just hope that they let us do a "pick up in store" when we make our pre-orders! I want mine delivered to tax free NH!
No, stay away! You folks voted for your high sales tax, please stand in line for your taxed Apple watches in MA! We don't want our stores to sell out of tax-free ones.

(Just kidding. Our lines are always full of MA shoppers. We're used to it.)

Rockingham or Pheasant Lane?

I also don't understand why they bothered with the Edition starting with a rubber band. If you have that much money, what's another couple thousand for a good quality leather strap. Further, you'll look like a total d*******g wearing that thing to the gym

Looks like I'll pre-order the morning of and then try them on after work. That way I can cancel my order if I like something different and order in store. I'd just hate to not pre-order,go after work and then have the store tell me that they aren't taking any reservations anymore.

You don't actually have to have an appointment. It's recommended to ensure you get a decent amount of personal time with a device, but there will be scope for customers to have a look. I'm guessing it will depend on how busy the store is at the time.

Anyway, I wonder if staff will be given Apple Watches...hmm...

Why are people complaining about obsolescence? I seriously doubt it will be the same as the phones. And people spend thousands of dollars on watches now that never get software updates?

Why are people not bitching about someone spending $5K on a Rolex that will only ever do one thing, but they are bitching about $350 on a watch that will do over a thousand things? People are acting like the $17,000 model is the only option and like they don't waste $350 a year on coffee, movies, or even one time things like sporting event tickets. I'm about to drop $500 on a Bonnaroo ticket that will be obsolete after three days.

Finally. Maybe then we can move past this watch crap and get back to devices that actually do something useful.

Holy crap. Just realizing the Apple Watch sport only works with the sport band. Well, Watch it is then.

If they later offer bands only that we can buy as a second one, I believe all bands can go on all three watch types, it's just that some won't match. Example: If you get an Edition with navy leather band and later decide you also want a red leather band, the digital crown will have navy end. That would not bother me at all but the Apple Watch is is my price range, not the Edition.

I think I'm going with stainless steel 38mm with navy leather modern buckle.

I wonder when we can sign up for an appointment. I bet the Apple store in the Somerset Collection mall (Troy, MI) will have Editions. I bet there are more guards around the store.

Not sure if serious, but this is going to be one of the most revolutionary devices of all time in regards to usefulness. People saying otherwise are being short-sighted and not focusing on it's potential.

I remember when I first saw the iPhone in 2007. I thought, "Neat, but what can it do that my Motorola Q can't do?"

With Apple every launch is always bigger then the last. I wonder how many thousands of people will be standing in line for this one?
I hope not. I just want to go to my Apple store on the 10th and pick up a new MacBook (if they have the $1599 one stocked). I've heard there's supposed to be an even higher model with a faster CPU but it's not on the site so I don't know when it will be available or if it will be.

They are pushing the watch aggressively. I assumed the poster was referring to pushing the "Apple Watch" (SS specific) vs the "Apple Watch Sport". If you look at the chart, without reading the text below it, you would think they are trying to push more users towards the more expensive SS watch for a wider range of bands. Fortunately, that is not the case.

In that case fair enough .

Is it though? Honestly seems lazy on apples part, they're like oh just take some magazine ads out with white back grounds, get some celebrity to use it and we'll make a film and we'll put it under glass at Apple stores, seems like something Tim cook came up with in 5 minutes.

Question . Did the keynote look like it was put together by a intern, a day before?

Apple really is going out of its way to make us think we need an :apple: Watch

You need something to match those elitist $1000 shoes right? Or perhaps something in yellow to go with the $5000 purse? Of course you are going to need something that matches with the little black dress. MMMM a $17k gold watch should do the trick. ;)

Blech. The fail train is a coming fast with this product.

I'm thinking marketing will do a 180 in the next 6 months.

This is unlike any previous product launch, so what will be the best way to get one on launch day?

I wonder if the best bet is being up at 1201 the morning of April 10th and doing it online or at the Apple store? If at the Apple store, will it be better to line up the morning of the 10th to get an appointment to try it on and pre-order to pickup on the 24th, or to line up the morning of the 24th?
