Remember.

Samsung or LG will know FAR more about the iWatch, iTime than any of us, as they are the ones making the hardware for Apple to use.

So one of them or another major company already knows exactly what Screen it will have & what battery it will have.

(if it even has a screen!)

What hardware is Samsung making for the iWatch? Do tell.

1. I haven't worn a watch for 12+ years. I look at my phone for the time.
2. Every watch I've ever bought has been <£20 and has had a battery that lasted for months-years.
3. I have no plans to spend hundreds on a watch that I have to charge almost as often as my phone.
4. I thought the iPad was pointless and would never catch on - what do I know?!
5. I imagine that the functions of the iWatch, or whatever it ends up being called, will start out as mildly interesting before becoming really quite useful and ending up completely invaluable.
6. If this does play out as expected, I still hope that the battery will last a good deal longer than the phone battery.

I still don't understand why no one it using the strap to house the battery?

Flexible battery?

Segmented battery ?

It's SOoooooooooooooooooooooo Obvious for the strap to be the battery

Yeah, but I can't help but imagine that exploding....

They need to limit the functionality to a few compelling features and add more features in future releases. By having a device do 'everything' on day one is a good way to have it do 'everything poorly' on day one - this mainly because if given more power/battery/resources etc applications will consume them and you'll just get a crippled device.

Just have a few compelling features and make them great on day 1.

You don't seem to know what you want. This puts you right in Apple's target market.

To me, 1+ days of battery is fine. I charge my phone every night, I can charge a watch, too. It's when it goes less than a day that it becomes a problem.

Recharging your "watch" more than once a week is ludicrous for the AVERAGE person...so people are supposed to just carry around their "charging station" on vacations, flights/travel, to work, etc? No way, Jose. And I bet the station is the size of a loaf of bread.

The issue is that the iWatch is supposedly far more than a watch...which means it is a mini computer/ipod that just eats battery life thanks to cpu cycles, display, and other stuff...therefore, trying to find a battery that can actually power all this technology AND be the size of a dime is going to come with a very short life. That's the central problem.

If Apple is serious about iWatch, Apple should (should have) invested big bucks into new battery technologies (they do exist)...just like how solid state drives/ram has replaced traditional drives for the past 7+ years in countless consumer devices requiring storage.

We all know these countless articles on MR are rumors...but $300+ for a watch intended for the masses whose battery lasts less than 7 days is a complete joke.

Battery life - it's one thing I haven't thought about with my watch for 9 years now. I know I'm more the exception, because my watch is an automatic and only requires my wearing it to keep it charged. As slick as any of the new "smart" watches are, I'll keep my trusty Seiko Arctura and never worry whether I have my charger with me or not traveling.

Not to mention, I like the look and feel of what is essentially a piece of jewelry, which I know is common with a broad spectrum of watch wearers. I own and use Apple products for my work and personal life, but a watch is just not something I'm going to buy into.

I really wish Apple would go back to working on bt headsets - figure out a better solution for what more people would wear and use on a regular basis. I haven't used their wired headsets for years - even covering up the headphone jack on the last 4 iPhones, because I'm only using bt headsets (currently sporting a Plantronics A170) - but I'd really like to see something like the original Apple bt headset come back from the dead.

That and a stereo version for sport use.

same, since 5th grade actually. i hate stuff on my wrist. i remember having to wear a plastic band on a all inclusive hotel for a week and it drove me insane. i bought a casio watch recently cuz i heard they r in style apparently but i just couldnt do it especially in that summer sweaty heat. so juck

A fine time piece is as much a piece of jewelry and fashion as much as it is functional. I own five watches, two of them from Tiffany & Co. A fine dressed man will wear a watch. And sports watches like those made by Casio are great for the beach and other outdoors activity.

Switzerland must be shaking in their little boots. Also, what's the battery life n my old atomic-controlled, shock and water proof Casio? Who even knows, it's solar powered, and cost less than $200. Who needs a "smart" watch? I had one in the 1990s. It was called Swatch Scall and had a pager built in.

I have a smartphone now.

Baseless report.. Typical of todays journalism..
Print anything u want and when asked for accountability Say" Oh i cant reveal my sources"!

Pure FUD...
MacR why are u giving legitimacy to this kind of garbage by publishing it again !?

I do know this: if it looks like a rectangular nerd toy like that rendering, it's a non-starter.

I wonder how far the wireless charging would charge from...

Apple's patents suggest a wireless charging range of ~ 1 meter.

This could create a “virtual charging area” within about a yard (1 meter) of this power supply, which would keep your mouse, keyboard, and other gadgetry juiced.

Personally I think this would be great. Have the charge pad hidden on my desk where I normally set my phone down. No more plugging it in. There are rumors that the iWatch will use this (or a similar) tech but personally I'm hoping they add it to the iPhone as well. Would make sense to add it to both if you're adding it to one. (Or they may wait for the 6S for it lol :p)

No. They haven't started mass production yet, that's how everything is being kept secret. Everything is managed inside Cupertino. Remember iPhone and iPad, NO ONE knew anything until keynote time. Apple is pretty smart when entering new product categories.

Batteries, in general, are WAY overdue for reinvention. It's pretty pathetic how often we rely on them but the tech hasn't changed in soooo long (in tech time).

:apple:

Well there's only so much you can do with chemistry.

Many people are in a position where they are not responsible to meet a schedule. Very fortunate indeed. Most people have joined the rat race, so need to manage time constantly.

so where do you work and what do you do?

Really people? You can't know the time without a watch? I have my phone for the time...which is always with me. I'm in healthcare.

Just you. When was high school for you, anyway?

Graduated in '98.

Can't wait to read the comments from those who just today bashed the Moto360 battery life in the previous post lol

Well, the Moto360 is rumored to be well under 24 hours, while now we hear that Apple was shooting for 4-5 days, but was "only" able to achieve 1-2 days.
Without further detail, 1-2 days seems to be about twice as good as under 24 hours.

He he, you're the kind of customer apple loves. Doesn't like watches, still buys one because it's in style. You'll definitely be buying an iwatch.

Except everybody knew ahead of time.

Well... We knew as far as rumors go, but we didn't have battery info, screen info, those sorta stuff. So no, Samsung nor LG know a bit about the battery. For all we know, Apple maybe even be testing these with iPod nano batteries, who knows.
