TBH, they should give them away for free to Apple employees. Didn't Apple give every employee a free iPhone a few years back?

2007. Much smaller company then and not to mention the cost of the contract that some employees might not want to have incurred.

I know some Apple store employees and they are thrilled because they just saved several hundred dollars. No wonder Tim Cook has one of the highest CEO ratings by the employees.

It's a great idea. It gets more watches on wrist, those employees in retail will be able to address customer questions based on their own experiences. Plus it's 38/42mm billboard running around town all the time.

You are right. As of 2014 Apple employees over 72,000 employees. You are still reaching a little too far. This is still a miniscule increase in the sale numbers.

Samsung might want to adapt this giving technique to help boost sales then...

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has reported its first annual earnings decline in three years, in part due to a sharp drop in sales of mobile phones.

The free iPhone was not in the "Post SJ" era. Were talking June 2007 Taz.
a 50% discount in the TC era is BIG IMO. I presume the historic Media Blitz running up to the 10th was an inadequate amount of "showing off?"

Apple is concerned about sales in the first 90 days. Big time. ;)

Apple wants its employees, particularly its retail store employees, to have the Watch and be seen using it. It's good advertising. It's a brand new product, and just as Jony Ive said back in October, when you are doing something for the first time, you don't know whether it is going to work. Apple surely has some internal expectations and targets, but of course until there is actual sales data they won't know for sure how well it is doing.

I don't know what website you are looking at to get that number, but according to this site, Apple currently employees approx 92.6 thousand employees since 2014.

http://www.statista.com/statistics/273439/number-of-employees-of-apple-since-2005/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc. 92.6K is still a miniscule increase in the sale numbers.
As of 2014, Apple employs 72,800 permanent full-time employees, maintains 437 retail stores in fifteen countries,[6] and operates the online Apple Store and iTunes Store, the latter of which is the world's largest music retailer.

This only proves how HIGH a markup consumers are paying for an Apple Watch.
Not really... it could be a loss or it could be an initial loss expected to recoup in the form of Apple employees actually wearing the product they're selling to customers. Regardless, one could reasonably expect a profit margin somewhat akin to that of their other electronics.

Apple Employees to Receive 50% Off Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport Models, ...

I'm thinking this might be part of a ploy to get the apple watch out there and popular. Think about how many employees are at Apple and how many of them will take advantage of this. There's a huge number of people that will basically be doing free advertising for Apple....

Verizon employees get free android phones... That's why they try to post you towards android instead of iPhone.

If the Apple Watch was 50% off retail price for everyone, I would be doing free advertising for Apple, too.

The price alone is what turns me off on the product.

Having all their employees wear the watch is another form marketing! Having employees integrating it into their usage and know how to easily use it is another.

Apple should be giving these away to their employees. BUT since all don't want a watch (and some would turn around and sell them) this is a good way to get buy-in and only get the people really interested. (Although, I suppose some will still buy and sell to make a profit)

Good point. Helps those employees better sell it to customers. Doubles as an employee perk. Win-win for apple either way.

Nothing to do with it. Verizon gets a bigger markup/kickback on select android phones. Apple doesn't give kickbacks.

That's only a few thousands here in Canada, not exactly massive. This is more to make sure that the people that sell them, own them; that way, they can also continue getting very good bug reporting from a more reliable source than the general public.

Someone may have already said this, but what this says to me is that they want as many employees to wear them as possible; when they are out in the wild, so to speak, when people see them and possibly ask questions, they'll be knowledgeable on how to answer. Plus the more people wearing them, the more popular they look X3 I imagine that this is close to margin (maybe?) but they expect to make up the missing profit from the free marketing.

Shall we keep this about Apple alone. Going a different direction will only spire the wrong direction.
