There has never been a new feature that I adopt as quickly as 3D touch. Just by changing the press sensitivity to light makes it so much more indispensable.

To all the naysayers: you don't deserve the new iPhone. Should have got a 6/6plus instead.

Edit: Many of the naysayers like to criticise this feature and yet they think 3D touch is only about short cuts. It also encompasses peek and pop which is tremendously useful and fun to use.

I got the new 6S for the ram and improvement speed tbh, not for the 3d touch and live photos, and no sorry the 3D touch is just short cuts for idk the 95% of apps? And no sorry is not useful or fun to use when I can do more inside the app

Instead of that I want improvements in battery life, and no I don't want to use a fugly case by any brand

It sounds a little harsh and I'm sorry, but it is true, 3D touch is nothing more than short cuts

Apple needs to do the same for split view. What a joke that none of Google's apps support it, even apps that have had several updates since iOS 9 was introduced.

I wouldn't hold your breath on Google. They'd prefer to charge people subscriptions for multitasking (see YouTube Red).

I'm looking at my iPad right now and the Google apps that support Split View are:
  • Google Translate
  • Play Books
  • Google
  • Google Drive
  • Chrome
I wouldn't exactly consider that to be "none."

I don't get the "It´s a dumb gimmick"..

It´s the equivalent of "right click" on a PC, and I can't even imagine only having "left click" on a computer these days..

From a developer's perspective, I think the reason you don't add 3D touch is because few of your users will have access to it. Why waste the effort?

I'll start thinking about using 3D touch when I expect a higher percentage of my users to have it.

Effort!? I've implemented 3D Touch (Peek/pop and actions on the app's icon.) in an app in about 40 minutes, including the time it took to consult the documentation.

Apple made it real easy to implement.

As a small time developer I can't really afford a thousand bucks for a new iPhone (6s starts at $899 CAD + taxes) just to try it out to see if it makes sense anywhere in my apps. Maybe next year.

3D Touch is something dumb and developers are scratching their heads? I'd love to know what developers you're talking to. And if it's so dumb why is it coming to Android devices next year?

Did I really need a new iPhone? Well, no. But- does 3D Touch make the iPhone better? Well, no. ¯\(°_O)/¯

There are always who will complain and not do anything. There are those people like you who looks at something in front of them and realize the potential in the future. I salute you and everybody else with the same attitude as you.

Gimmick today is the technology of tomorrow ... a lot of people here need to look beyond their noses.

Apple needs to push native Watch OS apps.... Devs have had 6 months to work on them, and still only <20% of my watch apps are native. The big ones I'm waiting on are Nike+ Running and Overcast. Honestly those are the only native apps I want/need on my watch (besides perhaps a sleep tracking one).

Can I suggest my app ChronicTimer?

PS A lot of becoming native is actually OS limitation, mainly some features are till not supported native. Also 3rd party apps are not allowed to run ANY code in the background so thats a HUGE limitation.

The 3D Touch experience with the 6s seems to be a lot like the Apple Pay experience was with the 6 in the U.S. The user is all excited to try it out only to find out that many of the apps/retailers they use regularly support it.

It works great for the few apps/places you go that support it; but you've generally come to expect that it won't work in many of the places you'd actually use it the most.

This is why we promote users to review our app so much. People only review when they are super excited/incentivized to or super angry. I would love if users should reviewed my app, gave it a fair rating and suggested features, improvements, wishes etc.

Barely anyone reviews apps and its unfortunately. Even if we attempt to make it less annoying without that popup and actually interactive.

I would suggest to all just leave a friendly review. Developers love reading them and actually become aware of the necessity. Developers otherwise have to guess or implement stuff that isn't even wanted.

Translation: something I have no use for = 'gimmick'.

Translation : I use it = not a gimmick ;)

One persons gimmick is another person must have innovation . Yes 3D Touch is a gimmick for lots of users, others enjoy it, same as Live Photos .

Not really the same as Live Photos given the level of application and usefulness differs quite a bit.

Thank you for the kind words :)

Mileage varies person to person. The way I view it, if it's critical to day to day operation to an individual it's a feature, otherwise it can be seen as a gimmick . It's like all the "Features' that ship with a Samsung phone. Gimmicks as far as I'm concerned , but put there are people who use them, each to thier own.
