Using Copy Paste in iOS 9 is a pain in the ass.

It's like what was said on Reddit, "had to write down a phone number today because safari wouldn't select it without selecting the entire ****ing paragraph. isn't that kind of data supposed to be quick linked or something anyway"

I do not understand why something as simple as copy and paste on the iPhone is so........ unpredictable.

Ever since they moved to the flat iOS, the operating system cannot select text correctly. Sometimes you hit copy and then you go to paste it, only to find nothing was ever copied. I'm making this post now because it's been happening for like 40+ days and now I'm just mad.

They want to make a Gold iPhone, but yet they can't even master copy and paste. Hmph.

I have to agree. It used to be flawless. I remember when Android had the faulty implementation and iOS was the one that was right. While I wasn't a fan of the skeuomorphism Forstall didn't have as many bugs. I really wish they would skip a year or even 6 months and just push to iron it all out. Come back strong.

Sometimes you get 'select all' but often it just highlights a single word. I can never get 'select all' consistently anymore.

While Android copy and paste did require getting used to...

The fact that my _Original iPhone_DID NOT_ Have Copy & Paste was Apple hypocrisy at it's most blatant.

A rather lame 2G phone with NO Copy and Paste, when all the rest had 3G plus Copy & Paste, put Apple to Shame

But as you can see the Apple devotees didn't' care about such trivia... ha..ha..ha...

+1

The number of times I've wanted to copy part of a text message and had to first copy and paste it as though I was sending a new message, and then mess around with the tap-and-hold-for-a-split-second nonsense (which seems to require a slightly different length of 'hold' each time)... it makes me want to throw my phone at a wall.

Well Android phones couldn't take screenshots.

Anyway, this was eight years ago!

I wonder which apple devotees you are talking about? I thought it was a real lack of functionality not to have that. I don't have any real issues with copy and paste at this point however, the trackpad feature makes it a no-brainer.

My point was more to the fact it was one of the things even Android fans wanted off of iOS at the time when the iPhone was missing many features. But as long as you got that off your chest...

I bought an HTC Touch Pro in mid 2009. It had copy/paste out of the box. Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional - with a stylus.

It also had MMS.

I had some fun on Facebook poking at my iPhone friends who couldn't do copy/paste or send picture mail.

It's crazy too right? Like you try to select the top of the message, but THAT doesn't work. So then you select the bottom of the message. That's how I've been doing it.

But it never really gets it right.

I'm just assuming they don't know how to do it.

I just tried to select your message, and it simply only selected the "I" at the beginning.

I just tried to select your message, but it only selected one word.

Where iOS 9 really fails is when you put a webpage into Reader View and then try to use copy and paste. You can manage to copy and paste it, but not without a fight.

Many times I'm sure I hit the copy button but when I go to paste there's nothing there. The second copy action always works though. It was more reliable pre-iOS 9

Most of the time when I do bug reports, it keeps being returned to me saying something about an "existing bug" so they're closing it.

The whole thing is messed up. Let's not even talk about copy and paste. Selecting text on iOS 9 is messed up.

I thought it was just me being fumbled fingered when I go to paste and find nothing was copied. Or worse, I ended up loading something I'd copied previously.

I can't get selected images to save consistently now, either. I'll go to save a photo or meme but find it didn't end up saved to my photos even though I went through all the steps and all seemed to proceed normally.

And now with 3-D Touch if I press a bit too hard I end up saving a photo that comes in a series after the one I thought I'd selected.

That happens too! You just never know what's going to happen! Believe it or not it was worse prior to iOS 9.1

I think part of the issue is the website JavaScript is fighting with iOS 9, but selecting text for me isn't that bad, but I can see what people are saying.

yeah i noticed it has gotten worse on iOS9. sometimes it only selects one letter and when i try to select a whole paragraph it jumps and selects the whole page or the text above without the part i actually wanted to copy. other times it wont let me select at all

Yup, using root apps or adb commands just to take screenshots haha. Now though screenshoting is just as straight forward as iOS, and you can screen record now.

I thought I was the only person who had difficulty with copy&paste... Many times I found it easier to just memorize the texts and type them myself.

It used to work flawlessly in iOS 6. But during iOS 7 it started to change and got progressively worse as it went along.

But I wonder if it's the same in the iBooks app, where you have to select text to highlight it.

Lol, or...... (just bear with me here).
You're COMPLETELY full of crap & have just created a revisionist history.
My OG Droid didn't have copy & past at first (cupcake or donut, I believe?)
It was like the eclair update or something that added it, iirc.
At any rate- it was cool to have, but also a pita, as once again, iirc, it required sliding out the keyboard and activating that way(keystroke), not through touch screen.
I do remember when, soon after, Apple implemented it- it worked better.

Now, I am definitely the first to admit there are currently issues with it.... but I (unlike you) am NOT willing to go start fights & parade my ignorance.
Pretending like "all the rest" (what a silly statement!!!!!! At the time there were like 4 smart phones) were "putting Apple to shame". Also, I don't think you know what the word hypocrisy means... it could be considered hypocritical of Apple to not have implemented copy/paste while making a claim like: "all smart phones MUST have copy/paste at launch" or something like that. See? That would make sense... because hypocrisy is when you say one thing, yet do another. But Apple never said any such thing.
In this instance Apple waited until they thought they had a good implementation of copy/paste, then released it.... & never said, did, or hinted otherwise.
Sooooooooooo.... not sure where the hypocrisy you're claiming actually is??

I love iOS but I can only agree with you. Cut, copy and paste is a complete joke. I love the fact that you can place the cursor and select text with 3D touch but unfortunately it only works when the keyboard is present, so when you are actually typing.
