Working on a swap for a member here whose computer was delivered in July... I should have the final decision in 24-48 hours. Hopefully the member will post something in this thread once they get the reply from Apple. I can tell you this for sure; placing an order for the replacement computer, and having the web order number handy so that the Apple rep you speak to can see your order increases the probability that Apple will do the swap for you; the Apple rep I spoke with today told me this.

Joe

I just went ahead and purchased a new 2018 MBP with the Vega 20 and I got it today from my local store......I am selling my 560x....taking a loss overall.....Thank you Apple!

At what point are we now just abusing/trying to take advantage of the situation? July??? Come on now, this is ridiculous.

You're such a negative nancy!

I got a refund for my i9/560X because of the issues it had.

When the vega came out i was hoping to get a refund and buy a vega 15".

I'm not buying a vega 15". I'm staying away from these 15"-ers. :D
I’m going to call Apple and ask them to swap my dual core 2015 for a 2018 quad core. It’s only fair since they released a new model.

the vega pro is not a new model. All refreshes were new models. This is just an upgrade option release that got botched. It's the exact same model.

I don’t understand why there are so many people pissed off that people might get a refund on a 4 month old laptop. If someone could get Apple to swap their 2010 MBP for a 2018 with a Vega 20 for free I’d say more power to them. No need to feign some moral high ground based on arbitrary corporate time limits.

Update and for your HUMOR.....

Like I mentioned in the other post I just bit the bullet and bowed down to Apple and just purchased the same spec 15" MBP but with the Vega 20 GPU. In the process of wiping the July 2018 MBP and putting it back to factory so I can sell it.....I ended up bricking it!!!

It turns out that the lovely secure T2 chip is blocking me from performing a recovery from "Internet" or "Bootable USB/Drive"

Now I have to into my local Apple store where they would have to take the laptop and send it in for service! I am going to try once again to see if they will just refund me......ughhhhhhhhh! lmao!!

By way of an update... my new MacBook Pro arrived today and I am in the process of migrating 1.5Tb of data from my time machine backup. Happily... the migration is running smoothly for the first time that I can ever remember. I am looking forward to having it up and running.

Congrats.

Utilizing which source? I've done two Time Machine restores lately from Mojave to Mojave and Wi-Fi was a huge nope, and even a USB3 external HD was painfully slow. Going to just do a clean install and manual copy when my V20 arrives.

I have a 12Tb usb raid zero drive that I use for my time machine backups. The data transfer is painfully slow; right now, the migration assistant indicates 13 hours to transfer 1.6Tb of data. I am okay with this transfer speed since it will be running overnight as I sleep.

Apparently the fastest way is machine to machine via Thunderbolt cable.

People are really funny here.

First Apple creates a machine that simply doesn’t work. And after many months when it becomes a bit usable but still has audio issues, the machine gets updated with a new much more powerful processing unit.

And if I want my laptop to be outdated after a couple of months and not working 100% like it should, I might as well have bought a cheap ass PC and hackintoch it instead of buying Apple product (Apple products never get refreshed so soon).

I dare Apple to do the same with the iPhone (which again, are not supposed to be refreshed so soon).

I find it funny if someone wasn’t happy with a product, why didn’t they return it within the 14 days? Seems illogical. Why keep a lemon??? That’s what is funny.

It is not a lemon because I have had various exchanges so it is clearly software issues that Apple needs to fix. The T2 chip is still a beta product at best.

I have many other computers to work on so I am still waiting for Apple to fix all their issues in the meantime.

Return the computer for a refund?

Agreed I have a coworker who got one like 3 months ago. And I stopped trolling him because he is genuinely upset and mad as heck.
I am gleeful with my 11” iPad Pro. And will only buy a new MBP when these 3 things Happen.

#1. Redesign Chasis less bezels 120Hz Promotion HDR Display. Heck if Gaming PC can do it for less money.
#2. Intel 10nm CPU minimum 8 Cores.
#3. 7nm Vega 30 GPU the new Vega 20 GPU is 14nm and will not hold up.

I genuinely feel bad for everyone who bought a 15” MBP this year.

While you want to poke fun of the MBP owner, consider that the iPad is not problem free. People are complaining about it being so easy to bend. Apple's issues are not localized to the laptop category. I think they're mis-firing on a number of fronts.

I am being extra cautious with my 11” the bending affects the weaker 12.9” model mores so.
That being said I am comfortable that there won’t be a new 11” iPad Pro with a significant improvement in 6 months time. I am getting my moneys worth and some longevity.

I got apple to swap my 560X for the Vega 20 yesterday, spearheaded by @PROFESS0R, I just phoned it home. Being nice seems to help, also having an explanation of why you need the upgrade. I made my purchase in July. Doesn't hurt to try. Worst they can say is no, but if you don't ask, for certain your answer will always be no.

Currently running one final time machine backup before I send it back today. I will be running on my linux box for the time being. Kinda funny because my 560X MBP pulls the same scores as my Dell T3500 on Geekbench, which has a video card that runs off 150W alone, full load is something 800W and idle is around 200W. Crazy how much technology has improved.

Here's a photo my current machine, I'll update with photos of the new one when it comes in. Good luck to all!

Did you have any issues with your time machine restore? I've read some stories of people's time machine restores failing because the Mojave build for the Vegas is different than the current build. Just want to make sure I'm not screwing myself relying on time machine.

That's awesome! Was this through a physical store or did you call Apple Support? Can you provide any other insights into the process besides the being nice and explanation (both of which I tried in my one call)?

Well, to be fair, @PROFESS0R did all the work for shiggles. I simply got a phone call asking if I wanted to do the swap by senior customer service and said yes and she did it. The setup, from what I understand, was to configure and "purchase" the vega 20 laptop so they knew I was serious and could look it up under my appleID and see I was buying the system anyway. Then telling them what I do for a living and saying the upgraded card would make a huge difference in my work and that I wouldn't have settled for the 560X if I knew the vega chips were going to come out now. There were notes on my account about problems I had with my order (broken screens/mics/hinges), so that may have been why they made the exception as well.

That’s unfair, I purchased the Vega 20 MBP and now I have to my sell my 560x through eBay. Could @PROFESS0R help me too?

They gave me a refund after 2mo because my 560X was a lemon. (Granted, i had the apple case open during the whole 2mo period for issues they couldnt fix).

Thought i was gonna get a Vega but getting Mini+13” instead.
I’ll need another heater tho...

I used the migration assistant during setup and it worked perfectly. The migration assistant does not restore unique system files, so no corruption of Mojave can occur. I would recommend you follow this same process.

Ah genius! I thought Migration Assistant could only be used between computers not backups as well. Thanks for the tip.

Is it possible to share case codes with us (PM please) so we could use your examples for those who are in similar situations but Apple refuses to acknowledge?
