I feel like I'm back to the days when I had a Performa 5260, in the mid-90s. Friends with Windows made fun of me, I had paid more than double for a computer that struggled even with the most trivial things. Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy, then we know how it went. Now it's the same with Siri. When I have friends over, it's often a chorus of laughter: managing lights, music and home automation with HomePod and Siri is embarrassing.
Furthermore, text comprehension for us Italians seems to be in beta version.
Not to mention the songs that when they contain words in English, it's the end, frustrating is an understatement. Needless to say, the competition is light years ahead, Apple has long since lost the home automation train.
Let's hope that history repeats itself like in the Performa days. Even if I'm not very optimistic. For too long, Apple has been at a standstill, it has lost focus.

Finally saw this week's Talk Show on Youtube, which clocked in at over 2 hours long. It was good, although I think there was enough coverage by other tech media that by today (Saturday) there were no surprises left to reveal other than the fact that Joanna Stern's interview with Craig & Joz was last minute and done first thing in the morning.

The surprising thing about Gruber was that the supposed heel turn took many industry observers by surprise. He spent a lot of his online career being Apple's unofficial attack dog against Microsoft, Google, Adobe, the EU, you name it. I don't think this was punitive on Apple's part, I just think they wanted to avoid what would surely be an extremely awkward situation for everyone involved. Let everyone cool their heels and regroup for the fall event and WWDC 2026. Gruber himself downplayed any kind of pettiness or punitive action.

iJustine knows her stuff. Yes, she makes a certain kind of YouTube video that is very popular with the algorithm. But she also knows her tech very well.
Because ijustine says the right things to cause her to be popular with the YouTube algorithm
Plus these YouTubers wouldn’t be getting interviews if they where honest about certain aspects of the overall product

why is IJustine still relevant, never saw such a downfail in clicks and relevance
I had to look her up.

I wish I hadn't. And I couldn't watch that "interview". Just... ugh.

She's in a studio. There's professional camera gear. AND SHE DID A VERTICAL VIDEO. And that stupidity is before you even get to her apparently being a vapid moron who seems to be there shilling stupid looking dolls and Apple.

She's over 40. Old enough to know better.

My guy..she makes vertical videos specifically for YouTube shorts, which uses a vertical format. She's over 40 and yes...she knows what she is doing.

So if a someone writes a piece criticizing Apple, they are blacklisted? I wonder where we’ve seen that behavior before 🤔
FALSE! Apple is a tiny startup with very limited resources. They tried to squeeze-in Gruber but discovered they just didn’t have enough time to fit him in for a game-changer interview. So, at the very last minute, Apple had to pull the interview. But, stay tuned, because an ALL NEW interview with Gruber is in the pipeline.

If I had a keyboard that had even a 0.1% failure rate, like once in a while it typed S instead of A, I would throw that keyboard in the recycling bin.

Siri’s (subjective) failure rate started at around 5% in 2011. It’s more like 75% now. It is an utter POS that tarnishes the rest of the user experience of Apple devices, both for me (been an avid Apple nerd since 1982) and my partner (only managed to lure her to the Apple side a few years ago).

Every single time I invoke Siri, I brace myself for idiocy. It’s like having a personal assistant who recently suffered a massive head injury and is trying to hide that fact — and not at all succeeding.

*****

“Hey, Siri: bedroom light 100%.”

*turns bedroom light off*

“Hey, Siri: bedroom light on.”

*no response*

*****

“Hey, Siri: what’s the weather like in Hastings?”

*gives me the weather for Hastings in the UK; I live in New Zealand*

*****

“Hey, Siri: set a four minute timer.”

(around five minutes later) “Hey, Siri: how long is left on the timer?”

“There are no timers running.”

*****

“Hey, Siri: give me driving directions for (specific address in Lower Hutt)”

*gives me directions for the Lower Hutt CBD*

“No. Give me directions for (specific address)”

*repeats same directions for Lower Hutt CBD*

“NO. GIVE ME DIRECTIONS FOR (SPECIFIC ADDRESS)”

*no response*

*****

“Hey, Siri: what’s the temperature in the bathroom?”

“The temperature sensor is not responding.”

*checks in Home app: the temperature sensor definitely is responding*

*****

“Hey, Siri: can cats safely eat pumpkin?”

“I found some web results. You can view them on your iPhone.”

*****

“Hey, Siri: add milk to the groceries list.”

“Who is speaking?”

*****

“Hey, Siri: how long will it take me to get home?”

“You’ll need to unlock your iPhone first.”

(I’m driving and don’t want to crash my damn car trying to unlock my damn iPhone)

*****

“Hey, Siri: tomorrow at 7, remind me to take out the rubbish.”

*creates a reminder for 7pm tonight instead of 7am*
It’s not worse than it was in the beginning, you are making things up. Why don’t you just go and buy “the other side” if those nonsense conversations are that important to you

I don't think Gruber is relevant anymore. Who cares about his opinion? Just other dudes who are over 40. But he has no influence whatsoever. But if Apple ditched him over some negative comment, then it is truly pathetic. He was such a soft ball, with his useless, soft, non provoking questions. I don't understand why would anyone care about his talk show. I see no loss here.

The misogyny really gushes out of MacRumor users when an iJustine video shows up.
It's not misogyny to point out that this video is AWFUL, and that she comes across as an idiot and a shill.

There are women on Youtube who do AMAZING work. I'm a BIG fan of Gutsick Gibbon, she does great anthropology content, and she's working on her PhD dissertation at the same time. I have no idea how she pulls it off, I certainly couldn't.

Here, have a list of some of the women I'm currently subscribed to:

Belle of the Ranch - current events
Kaz Rowe - history
Fran Blanche - technology
ochikeron - Japanese food
ViolinMD - medicine
Godless Granny - atheism
Morticia - science
Philosophy Tube - philosophy
Spoon Staff Stories - stories based on D&D
Angela Collier - theoretical physics
Caitlin Doughty - history, mostly related to death (she's a mortician)
Tacticool Girlfriend - guns
Randi Rain - old toys, magic
The Jamaican Cooking Journey - Jamaican food
isethoriginal - debunking nonsense
Emma Thorne - debunking nonsense, and some generally entertaining stuff

Common thread with all of them? They're NOT idiots, and their content isn't stupid.

I'm not affiliated with any of them, I just enjoy their content.

iJustine on the other hand is unwatchable.
