A friend of mine was trained on how to use the iPad last week. He works for Toys R' US.

It's actually a bit of a blast to the past. In the 80s, TRU had a very healthy computers and software section including lots of non-game titles. I bought my Commodore 128D at TRU. :p

Yeah, I remember getting my Commodore 1581 drive from TRU when they first came out as they were actually sold out at the "computer" stores. :D

I think this move by Apple makes perfect sense. My niece and nephew both have iPads (3G ones at that! Spoiled brats!) and my girlfriend's niece (who is 4) also has her own iPad. With kids wanting/getting iPads, Toys R Us is a logical place to sell them.

It's incredible for me to see my girlfriends niece use her iPad - she does all the gestures as if they truly just came natural to her (pinch gestures, etc). Apple really got just about everything right with their implementation of multitouch.

Now expectant parents can register for an iPad along with their stroller at Babies-R-Us!

That would almost make it worth having a...wait, um, no it wouldn't.

Will Apple be releasing an integrated iBib? I have a 2 year old and dinner times can get pretty messy. ;)

I'll bet that the iPads sold there will come with a special iDrool cover.

Pretty soon you'll be able to buy an iPad at the checkout register at the grocery store and gas station.

So what?

I keep seeing these posts about how Apple should stop branching out at these perceived low-class places....and I have yet to be shown a single fact to show that the product would suffer one little bit

When I see this...THEN it will be too weird...

ToysRus is a great venue. It is another place to be able to buy it...or stand in line for it. For all those complaining about the long lines or waits, this will help minimize that by adding another channel.

Ipads can be played by kids...ToysRus, or by Adults...Apple Store. Appeals to the demographic in each store (yes either can shop at either store).

Another store to buy it from...why not.

The world will most likely run off iPads soon enough. Everyone will have one, because they will sell them in every store in world. Giving everyone the opportunity to purchase one, and they will. Next up...convenient stores. 7-Eleven here we come.

I was kinda weirded out by the fact that they're being sold here.

But I haven't been to Toys 'R' Us in years and I thought they cater to younger kids.

More power to Apple though.

This is kind of weird.

I would agree. Sure saturating the market is all well and good for current sales, but at which point are they devaluing the brand image. There is a tipping point, just as there is with all brands.

I just dont see how putting Ipads in a childrens/teen store is going to move more units?

I dont think parents go to Toys r us and say mmm "Chutes & Latters" "Huffy Bike" "Ohhh Ipad, thats what I was looking for"

Might a $499 ipad be pushing the econmical limit of parents for children?

I could MAYBE see them offering an iPad 1. For like $350 or so.

Excellent point, but I think that there are a lot of readers of this site who won't understand what you're talking about. With the amount of iPads being sold, especially to the segment of the population that is adopting the platform in droves, it's going to come to the point that the iPad is seen not so much as a cool, cutting edge device, but more along the lines of the DVD player, mobile phone, etc. In other words, it won't be as big deal to own an iPad - it doesn't make you any cooler when it's suddenly available to buy at a Toys R Us, not to mention Radio Shack.

With the Toys R Us announcement, I believe that time has just accelerated by months, if not a year.

Again, this is good news. Apple is expanding where you can purchase their stuff. Why all the negatives???

There are negatives because some people have a hard time whenever apple decides to sell there products with retailers who never sold those products before. It's like anal sex. Rough at first, but gets better after awhile.

Here is what to do in the following scenarios:

Shopper: Do you carry the Etch-A-Sketch?
Clerk: Isn't that a drawing pad?
Shopper: Yes
Clerk: RIGHT!!! Follow me...the pads are over here!!!

Shopper: Do you carry bean bags?
Clerk: Isn't that a drawing pad?
Shopper: Well...er...sort of
Clerk: RIGHT!!! Follow me...the pads are over here!!!

Shopper: Do you carry Chatty Kathy?
Clerk: Isn't that a device with a computer in it?
Shopper: I think so?
Clerk: RIGHT!!! Follow me...the pads are over here!!!

Shopper: Do you carry Android tablets?
Clerk: We sure do, the iPads are over here.

to make the troll's heads explode. They'll have a whole new avenue to exploit with snarky comments. I can't wait to read the first troll posts. They should be here any minute now.

They've already been calling them iToys before that. This would just finalize that into a reality.

Again, this is good news. Apple is expanding where you can purchase their stuff. Why all the negatives???

Personally, I feel it's inconvenient to have things that don't reasonably fall within a specialty shop's scope within the specialty shop. When I go to supermarket, these are the only macintosh apples I want to find in the produce section. Anything else just gets in the way of my purpose for being there by reducing in store stock, making the things I more difficult to find and eating up floorspace I have to then walk around.

As for others, I can't be certain but I think they just don't want to be considered childish...
