There are negatives because some people have a hard time whenever apple decides to sell there products with retailers who never sold those products before. It's like anal sex. Rough at first, but gets better after awhile.

Apples brand image is elitist. The BMW to the Toyota, if you like your automobile comparisons. Maintenance of said brand image is important to help maintain the desirability of the product.

Something to strive for. The competitively priced entry product, aka iPad, is important to Apple, as the 1series is important to BMW. It may not be the biggest margin, but hooks people onto the apple bandwagon to help ensure consistent purcahing as they move up the income chain.

To maintain the brand image, while maintaining hte mammoth income, they need to balance availablity of the ipad with 'who' is selling them. Is Toysrus going to increase availability? - probably not as apple iselling as much as it can make

So is Toysrus going to improve the brands image. Associating with a crap reseller may be great for Acer et al, but this is Apple.

My fiance works at Toys R Us and she actually found out from management that the iPad 2's are in fact going to be sold at Toys R Us' next month. So excited :)

They're already in bed with Walmart for both iPhone and iPad, I don't think there's any retailer that conveys less of an elitist image.

And Target too which does them so much good with the LGBT community.

I think that horse has long left the barn.

Yeah, there's no "People of TRU" site that I know of... :D

Toys R Us used to be for the age 0-12. However since most kids today stop playing with dolls, toy cars, and board games by age 7; those items do not sell like they used to. Same with bicycles - you don't really see kids riding them like when I was a kid.

So now a lot of Toys R Us stores sell electronics since that what kids are into. They sell PLaystation, Nintento, Xbox, ipods, kids laptops, etc. Since the iPad has a lot of educational apps as well as games, in a way - this may make sense.

However, I wonder if this will start to turn off all the adults who look at the iPad as a business machine. Admins and Sales people use it on the road; no need to lug a laptop. A lot easier for road warriors bouncing in an out of client sites. No need to set up a bunch of equipment or worry about boiling a laptop LCD screen if you leave it in a car (more of a problem if you live in the south - north has to worry about freezing screens in real cold temperatures - but freezing is less likely than the risk of boiling one). the iPad is just a lot easier to carry and has enough business apps, that you really do not need a laptop on the road anymore.

Me however, If I had kids - I would not likely be inclined to spend $500+ on an ipad for them. But on the other hand, a lot of public schools are starting kids on computers in kindergarten and first grade now.

10 years ago, I surprised when my sister-in-law who was in the 3rd grade at the time (my father-in-law remarried to someone my age); had a day planner. The school required it. She was walking and acting like a little secretary with her day planner, checking appointments; due dates on projects looking at schedules. The way she had things planned out - it iooked like a hand scribbled gantt chart.
