Apple Expected to Release Updated MacBook Airs Tomorrow

I can't see them releasing a spec bump and then a new model. You'll only end up annoying a lot of people of who purchased what they thought to be the 'new model'.

Retina isn't that big a deal. It wouldn't surprise me that if we were to see new MacBook Airs before WWDC they would already include that in the update.

Oh yeah....new Mac Mini please! ;)

Going from using Airs for a few years then moving to a rMBP 13" > Retina is a huge deal when you have it you'll wonder why you settled for less :p

I find it strange that Apple would update existing Macs prior to a "major release." It might defer some customers from getting the new version later this year.

I doubt it will have much of an effect at all. If they do release a fanless 12" rMBA chances are they won't be able to meet demand anyway.

I agree. And while they are at it, how about rebranding them as well:

12 inch - "MacBook Air"
13 inch - "MacBook"
15 inch - "MacBook Pro"

I admit, I don't really understand the sizes. Why have a difference of 1" between the MBA & the 13" rMBP, and then a 2" difference between the two rMBPs? Why not do 11", 13", & 15" or just 12" & 14"?

Plus, if the MBA does go Retina, what would be the difference between the Air and the Pro be, besides screen size and maybe a few mm of thickness? The Airs & some of the Pros doesn't have dedicated GPUs, the Pros don't really have any extra ports or anything that I know of. What am I missing?

What do you think is arriving in Apple stores

Modern manufacturing is done via the "just-in-time" model. There is no parts bin to deplete.

there not all pre-orders. I didn't say a lot of inventory - just current inventory.

For all you know they got a deal on newer processors.

whether you want a super thin computer with substantial battery life, or a computer that has a smaller footprint, faster processor, and much improved ips retina display. Oh yeah and more ports including hdmi output.

It better have HDMI 2.

I hope your joking. Tim Cook goes on and on about the "beautiful retina display" at every event. And justifiably so. It is a massive improvement. It would definitely qualify as a major update to include retina.

I hope this isn't the case, but perhaps the MBA lineup is never meant for retina and thus be the low end entry point to laptops.

The rumoured 12" fanless laptop would be retina and replace both existing 13" MBP's to become the low-end 'pro' laptop. Future 15" MBP's would incorporate same fabless design.

Who knows, just more random conjecture on my part.

I thought that at first but i tap to click and only press down for right click. wonder how right click will work on this.

Agreed. The trackpad on my Air is so clicky, that I actually dislike clicking with it.

Will Apple release an updated Apple TV tomorrow in the disguise of the MbAir?

Why wouldn't apple just wait for WWDC?

Because WWDC is about software. Or new hardware that means something to devs. Like an AppleTV that supported gaming and required devs to write their apps to it.
I seem to recall hardware bumps coming post WWDC, not announced at WWDC.
Or, there is something more significant coming to WWDC that they need to have this out of the way ahead of time. iWatch?

The screen size, the cpu and gpu, thickens and lightness and 2xThunderbolt ports(MBP) and with the 13" macbook pro you can add 16 gb ram and you can add up to 1T flash drive that you cant in the next MBA
So enough differences? :D

Money grabbing? No it's not. Apple will try and make these updates as silent as possible. There's also a good chance the prices WON'T increase.

Why would Apple increase prices on the current MBAs when they reduced them last year?

Buttonless trackpad sounds utterly horrible.

I don't know. Having to actually PUSH DOWN on the trackpad on my MB is getting to be a bit of a chore. I'm really used to just tapping, but it is nice to hear that click in some programs/web pages that take a while to respond to verify that I really did click on a button and that I'm not going crazy. I think buttonless will be OK.

It's evolutionary. I'm reminded of that line in Over The Hedge: "Humans are slowly losing their ability to [click]." :)

just like in the refresh in february 2013 there will be only a little cpu boost, no gpu because there is no new igpu
