Apple Experimenting With 'New Way of Charging' for 2012 iPhone

Apple engineers are clearly unaware of the real use cases for the device.

I need to charge it and I am not at my desk but in a trip in the fields with my solar charger/at a friend's place with a usb cable.

Which is why 15 million iPhone 5s are going to sell in the first month.

That might be true, but Apple did sign on to the EU agreement... NOt sure what that means (30pin-uUSB adapter?)

Nothing needs to change. The current cable (30-pin dock male -> USB-A male) fulfils the requirements of the agreement. No adapters and no on-device port changes needed.

How solid is this rumor? My phone screen is cracked which makes it's hard to see anything and it makes typing unresponsive. My contract ends in february 2012.

A week ago i would have told you to wait until October for the new one, but having just made the jump to the iPhone 4 form the 3Gs to get Verizon's unlimited data, I would say buy it now- unless you are on the 4. In that case, I don't know- wait if you can.

Apple doesn't like being like everyone else. I'm not saying they're right, but that is the way they tend to operate.

I'd like to see a methanol fuel cell battery power system. Whenever the phone gets low, just dribble in a few more drops of metho'. The spilled drops can be used to clean the screen. ;-)

Actually, such a power supply would be way better in a laptop if the power density was high enough. "Hang on, I've just gotta save and re-fuel". Hehe.
