Honestly shocked that apple was able to avoid being bit by this for as long as they had.

This crap is impacting almost all costs of goods.

I but an 8TB SANDISK external SSD For 459 last October.

Today that same item is 709.

I bought at 20TB WD DESKTOP external hard drive (not SSD) for 439 THIS MARCH. today? I would have to pay 600!

These prices are ridiculous and its because these AI companies are hogging all the components because they think they will be the company that wins the ai race

Well, the investors need to make profit right now, before the stock drops again at the beginning of September, right before they announce and release the new phones.

They probably had long(ish) term agreements that are reaching their end.

And new ones have to be drafted.

just add this to increased prices for:
- home and car insurance
- property taxes
- gas prices
- groceries
- utilities
- reduced hours for community services (where I live)

and no pay increases from my work

Fun times.
Yeah, living during inflationary years sucks. Due to my age, I think I’ve never met them.

Worst of it is that many economists think that inflation has come to stay, and it is not clear when prices will stabilize again. We’ll see…

By that explanation, iPhone prices should have gone up, but they didn't, yet. And upping ATV by over 50% seems unreasonable compared to other products.
It is what it is, right now iPhone is subsidized by the other products to keep prices and sales going.
The other surprise is that Apple Watch didn't see an increase.

For me, other than maybe maybe the watch, no upgrades planned for the next couple years at least

RAM issues have been ongoing for years now and it's widely known that Apple employs just-in-time manufacturing, meaning that Apple has been eating the increased cost for quite a while.
RAM issues have been ongoing for years now, really? You do realize you could buy a 32GB DDR5 RAM kit this time last year for around $100, which was comparable to the price in 2023 and 2024 as well. Today, the same kit is around $400. I think saying the RAM issues have been going on for years now is a stretch.

We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products

In other words, we will no longer deliver without our massively padded profit margin!

Tim says “we have to begin rising prices”. As others have said, it is quite likely that new price increases will come, either to the RAM/storage upgrades or to the base machines. I bet the upcoming A19 Pro MacBook Neo will get close to the 900-1000 pricetag.

Maybe it wasn’t a bad idea to purchase an M5 MBA before this first price increase… the M7 looks very promising but, at what cost?

What a joke, you know that if the AI bubble bursts, these prices are staying exactly where they are at. These are the new price floors.
This depends on whether customers continue to buy Apple devices in droves. If they do, that essentially gives Apple the green light to keep these elevated prices long after the AI hysteria dies down.

On the other hand, if customers close their wallets, and Apple's sales slump, they'll be desperate to lower the prices as soon as they can (though probably still not to where they were pre-component crisis).

Dear Apple,

Here’s my explanation about why I’m not upgrading this year.

See your explanation.

Best,
D
Exactly no one is gonna be buying new phones if they keep raising prices. They will lose so many customers. Ive been saying for 3 yrs they will be outta business by 2032. Looks like I may be right if they keep this behavior up. Even foldable phones are scheduled to be $2,000 yea no thanks im good. This is why they chose to give the latest ios 27 to phones older than 5 or 6 yrs. Cuz they know people arent buying new phones anymore because they cost too much
