Look at Mainstream Media (all-time low in trust), Hollywood (I don't have to mention), Reddit (Popular topics filled with propped-up posts against Trump), Twitter (giving direct access to FBI/CIA), Facebook (censoring journalists posts), Instagram (algorithm that messes with your mental health)...
We have X. Elon Musk says he is a "free-speech absolutist" but shadow-banning posts he does not agree with.
So back to TikTok, It's good to have that garbage blocked but it's not like social media is any better.

I totally disagree. This is not about stifling free speech or taking away our power. We are free to discuss any controversial issue we wish on any other social media platform except for the one that is essentially directly controlled by a geopolitical adversary. The US government does not directly control the algorithms on X or Facebook or tell us what we can and can’t talk about or learn about. Period. That is a huge difference. The CCP censors dissent and there is no concept of freedom of speech for their own citizens - you think they’re hands off (or will be hands-off forever) with something as powerful as TikTok for their geopolitical adversaries?
ByteDance is controlled by the CCP and giving them the power to tweak algorithms that apply to the information consumption of more than 100m Americans is a power that is unacceptable to hand over to a foreign government. We can buy their manufactured goods and they can buy our soybeans. Allowing them the power to determine the nature of our political and social discourse is reckless.
If you don’t believe that ByteDance is directly controlled by the CCP you can check out their AI they’ve tampered with (willingly or by force) that they put in an ereader.
If you think the extent of the CCP’s power is influencing an AI put in a niche ereader and not the social media network that has a generation of American teens hooked I have a bridge to sell you.

This started a long long time ago. Killing TikTok is a step away from it.
All major media outlets in the US are already censored in what they ultimately deliver to the citizens. Social media is no different. The US doesn’t want a foreign entity running a major US media platform. When TikTok was allowing lots of posts about a certain country in the Middle East that cannot be criticized, that was the tipping point.
More like the “freedom country” got upset that the reality of the genocide they actively support was being shown too much on a platform they can’t control. 🤷♂️

Because we go on 24/7 about how awful China is for such things?

Others perpetuate their own misery. I am merely a spectator. Ideally, they'd act like grown adults and take some responsibility for actions in their own life and move on. But if they're going to waffle about hopelessly and wear it on their sleeve with every interaction, and because they are, I will unfold my lawn chair and watch with utter amazement while eating popcorn to absorb the depths by which people will pluck out their own feathers and try to convince every one else that that is the moral high ground. Most videos on it are harmless from what I can see.
