...as is Trump preparing to take Greenland and the Panama Canal?

When the US sends troops to take either of these by force, call me. Until then I won't hold me breath.

IMHO is almost a guarantee that China will take military action in Taiwan.

What's frightening is the American youth believing anything and everything they're served on social media.

On this we can agree, see it finally happened!

In America the are already controlling women’s bodies and the trend is that it’s only gonna get worse.

Tell me you don't live in the US without telling me you don't live in the US. Fake news son.

The most baffling argument I've been seeing is "well, China bans social media, so why shouldn't we?" So you're saying the U.S. government should be more like the CCP? What a good example to follow...

I don't see "ban social media", I see ban one that is effectively owned by the CCP. There is a difference.

It is rather interesting that X [Twitter] is banned in China yet they try to justify TikTok in the US.
We are supposed to be better than China in democracy. But I’m clearly wrong
Because we're supposed to be a free country.
And “we” (including all western countries) clearly are not. Sadly.
Well, TikTok is banned in China as well.
Is it ?
And if a foreign country invades, should we just let them?

Look, I agree that the US has not done a good job of describing just how much data is being hoovered by the Chinese. I invite you to read the specifics of the TikTok user agreement.

Yes, Meta and all the rest do the same and it is for that reason that I don't use anything under the Meta umbrella, but it is silly not to acknowledge the difference between a US company doing it for profit and a foreign adversary using it to bury us.
You nailed it. Meta and Google are doing the same. How is it good ? How can China “bury us” with silly short videos ?

Some people are just really enjoying the narrative that the government “protects” them from bads of this world.

TikTok "influencer" in the US...got it. Also, nothing like insulting a whole country.

I've never used TikTok, and I have zero social media presence. I 100% agree with them.m

Until congress lays out what the concerns are, with supporting evidence and for the public to see, that's what I will think. Sorry, but "trust me bro" isn't enough.

TikTok is a video content platform.
Most videos on it are harmless from what I can see.
Maybe not healthy from psychologically - but far away from "warfare".

Two or more things can be true at the same time. TikTok is obviously a content platform and that platform is the foundation to wage psychological warfare when the time comes. How is that not obvious. The corporate structure is irrelevant. If China has the ability to dictate how or what the algorithm pushes, this is a big security threat for America.

I am an American and that is where my interests lie. The world has never been, is not, and will never be an even playing field. Allowing foreign adversaries to manipulate and feed information to the youth of the US is a dangerous precedent for any American government official to ignore.

Haha, the same can be said for me. I'm loving this!

7 MILLION small American businesses relied on the app for their livelihood. This is in addition to all the creators who made their living directly from the app.

America doesn't have affordable education, affordable housing, or free healthcare. And with this ban, they also now have less freedom of speech than in other countries.

Remember: oligarchies and dictatorships will take away your freedoms and get you to agree with their actions by convincing you that they are doing it to protect you. That's how it works.

They’re also already manipulating American opinions on topics of importance to China (Chinese ethnic cleansing, repression, Taiwan, etc.) And that’s without getting into the national security aspects.

Complain all you want about the mainstream media/Fox News manipulating Americans’ opinions (depending on your political persuasion), but at least the people running those are Americans and not an enemy.

It’s ironic that 4547 supporters it banned but extreme leftists want him to unban it

Perhaps it's a reverse psychology play. MAGA logic:
  • Biden did it.
  • It must be bad/wrong.
  • Undo it.
...repeating in term 2 what was mostly the driver of actions in term 1:
  • Obama did it.
  • It must be bad/wrong.
  • Undo it.
DEMS know that Trump has a tendency to just do the opposite. Perhaps the DEMS are not actually for this ban so by banning it and then Trump undoing it, they'll get what they actually want.

Trump has just thoroughly campaigned with much anti-China spin. So now he can undo this in support of China or he can leave a Biden action in place and break with long-established approaches to policy. Grab your popcorn. The next few days should be entertaining (but hopefully not depressing). TBD.

Those people are of no consequence to me. I'm doing very well, as are my friends and family, because we all work hard and are well educated. Please post a link to the stats of how 7 million small American businesses had survived only because of TikTok. I'll wait...
