I have sent my Airpods Pro v1 into apple 3 times for crackling due to dust ingress. They have an extended repair program for this issue. Apple gives me free 2-way FedEx overnight and free repairs even though my apple care+ is expired. I have to imagine it's related to this.
Yeah, I wonder if compressed air would work better now.

Dude Apple took out the SIM card tray in us iPhones and replaced it with a piece of plastic to save Pennies. They didn’t even utilize the space they did it to save PENNIES
Suppose it saved five cents per unit. Times 50 million equals...a lot of money for a simple change, and the space can be utilized in the next gen. It's business, not robbery. When you get out of school, you'll get a better understanding of how it all works.

I don't want to be harsh...but it's You, yes you. It's you that emboldens Apple to do these things. It's you that decided to upgrade every year and pay the highest prices for every minor upgrade. It signals to Apple you have the money and appetite to continue to pay. Apple excuse is BS, the old connector can be used. Plain and simple.

Apple said about 3 or 4 years ago that they wanted to do this. I would suggest (not say categorically because I don’t have evidence to support it) that this is another move toward a complete water tight phone.

Other people say things are categorically the way they are without evidence like the ridiculous, unfounded comments above.

Okay, I changed my mind. I 10000% KNOW that Apple have done this to better seal the phone and it has nothing to do with cutting costs. The reality is that we are only guessing and we don’t KNOW squat! But haters will be haters I guess.
If that’s the case then why do all other models still have it? Pretty sure the us model isn’t rated different so that’s obviously not the reason

Oh I understand that, but as a business that makes 10 billion a month do you think a few million is worth pissing off your customers? Obviously Apple doesn’t really care cause they’ve been doing this for a few years now but soon enough this nickel and dimming will turn off enough customers that they will loose more in sales than they are saving.

Clearly and Obviously they need to do these things in stages.

Apple have a great level of power in the U.S. and can somewhat control the implementation with U.S. telcos. There is no way at all that Apple could get this done in the EU. By showing a proof of concept and the eSim functionally perfect in the U.S., they may be able to get this accepted in the E.U. which is what they would need to finally go portless.

We know that Apple and Tech companies everywhere have to think many years ahead. It’s also about politics.

So obviously, it’s not ready to change the water rating quite yet or until they can go portless, but also obviously they need to go down this route to do it. Im just interested in how they will tackle the speaker system, other than just using membranes beneath the grille. I believe it will be eSim first followed by the charging cable & speaker.

When I’m travelling, I hate fiddling with those pointless sim trays. It’s so analogue and a pain when you’re sitting in an airport after a 27 hour trip. I think it has nothing to do with penny pinching. Soon everyone will have it, and suddenly you’ll be a fan. If that’s not the case, then I feel sorry for those who make such a tiny thing, such a big thing in their life.

Honestly my biggest issue with it is now I have to pay my carrier 40$ for an activation fee for no good reason

Anyone tried it so far? I had the XS ordered for my airpods pro 1 but canceled it for now.
Yes got the XS tips yesterday and they work just fine on my AirPods Pro 1. The original s/m/l tips never fit my ears well so was I eager to give the new XS ones a shot and they fit amazingly in my ear! I don’t notice any sound differences and I’m just thankful they stay in my ear now when moving around. And I pass the seal test!!!

I just put some of the new medium tips on the old AirPods and boy did it improve the experience for me. I’ve struggled getting the right seal on these and ultimately had to go with large, previously, which were a bit big, to ensure they didn’t sort of slip. The new mediums are sticking and sealing much better.

I suppose this could be an imagined change and I could ask my partner to blind test me, but at least for now it seems to me they’ve improved the fit with some kind of modification, material or such.

I can caliper the two different tips if but it may be tough to get an accurate read with the flexibility. I can’t detect a negative change, and fwiw an audiologist recently rated my hearing as age 25 (based on frequency pickup, I’ve always worn earplugs basically everywhere with elevated noise. Maybe those much younger with higher frequency will notice something.

What improved exactly? Basically just fit? I'm looking to replace the tips of my Gen 1 AirPods Pro, and am wondering if I should buy the new ones.

Long story short but the Apple Store lost my original tips when I tried to service them, and we don't lknow where they went. For $8 I don't want to waste too much energy complaining and am fine just buying a new set of tips--Amazon tips aren't much cheaper. Just trying to figure out which ones I should get.
