I always get all excited for nothing...looks like I'll be up late, whatever happens, I'll know :D

I finally found a use for the World Clock widget...

Does anyone know at what time announcements in Paris have been made previously?

Hi All -

I'm a lurker, and a newbie lurker at that, and I feel reeaally out of place here because I know so little about computers in general - let alone Macs - compared to the rest of you!

So here's what I gotta ask, because I'm planning on buying a new PB one way or the other, tomorrow (once I find out what's unveiled!): in the future, when they make the PowerBooks that have the Intel thing going on inside (sorry...don't remember the lingo/correct term), will there be any reason one of the current, upgraded Powerbooks won't work with the rest of the world well enough, past that point? I.e. will all the future PowerBooks be communicating perfectly with the PC's and the older apple laptops will be SOL? No smart corporation would do that, right?

Thanks!

Of course only a couple of selected European journalists will be invited, but they will not have any electronic devices (no camera, no telephone, no voice recorders, etc...)
For obvious security reasons, especially due to the presence of American citizens, we will not reveal where this Q&A Session will take place. We also hope that other Mac-dedicated or News websites will not make it public.
Do not send us email requesting this information, we will not give it away.

Now that's just interesting. What are you up to Apple?

From Paris

Salut,

I live in Paris near "Le Parc des Expositions", the Apple Expo address.

The Apple stand is alway the same but the banner on the top of the corner is only reserved for significant scoop!

The photographs show only one small part of the stand and workmen can add new poster at the last moment.

Some people looked under the black cloth and describe two new thing plate and grey. One clear gray and the other dark gray in two size.

Some people think it will be new laptop with a new design. 90% of chance. But it can be a surprise like Apple can do. ;)

The anulation of the keynote is not a surprise in France. Steeve Jobs will give an interview to the French and international press. The old Keynotes was regarded as great masses with a gourou. Too much carricatural.
I think Apple test a new style of communication in Paris, more simple, open and informative. I prefer, and you?

See you soon in Paris!

Naaa. I'm not an Apple fanboy but even I enjoy a Jobs keynote. Its interesting to watch the man go through his paces. If this is the end of the keynote it will be missed. :(

Current Apple computers communicate perfectly with Windows. All that is being changed is the processor not the fundamental of the OS. Also current Powerbooks will not be of no value when the intel computer are released as Apple has made 'universal binaries' which means that current and future Macs will be compatible with the software.

The only problem I know of can come when software developers stop making universal applications. This is highly unlikely during quite a few years as developers want to sell as much as they can and probably have no reason to do that.
Any other disadvantage for a current PowerBook could be considered to be like when any new update comes out. Newer ones are faster and usually have better features. Developers constantly have higher requirements for their apps, and there comes a time when your computer will no longer be able to run the newest OS or the newest apps. I'd say that's probably about every 4 years, at least. Could be a lot longer.
As long as you don't really need the newest OS and apps, there is not that much of a problem.

I'll make another guess: it's an Apple palmtop that runs the full version of OS X, but it's also the first Intel computer from Apple. Nice way to give PDAs a run for their money, test OS X86 on the public and give those "iTablet" rumors a rest.

Hey, if I keep repeating it before every keynote/event, eventually, I'll be right. :D

I'm inclined to agree with every portion of Yvan256's post.

If not xTablets, maybe they've got Macworld Expo Boston hiding back there ...

laptops?

I think they will be demoing early x86 stuff to start a buzz. That is the only reason I can think of why they don't want any recording devices. Something that isn't coming out that day. Maybe x86 PowerBooks? They couldn't this early. Could they...naaa. Maybe they are realeasing the x86 Mac Mini and x86 iLife. Its still too early though. Its has to be. Right?

God damn it this company needs to stop dicking with my mind!!
huh.gif

If they rev the G5 Pmacs, I'll finally get one and retire my G4 dual 1g and consider the new G5 my big write-off for this year. Otherwise, I'll hold out for Intel boxes I guess. Come on Apple, throw the pro user some bones...

Oohh yes ! I like this one... I think this could be it. Could we see running product in the booth.. no, I don't think so, not even at prototype stage...

Apple is about to act more like Micro$oft and Windows Vista... showing a year in advance an unfinished product to a few select member of the press... I don't have anything against this... this could tell us that Apple, Steve Co. are changing over time... we'll see...

IMO-

Jobs & Co are gonna give the journalists the product. Something revolutionary so they can try it out, expecially if it's a tablet or a tablet powerbook, a T-Book of sorts. They give it to the journalists since they can't bring electronics, the journalists take notes on it, and the journalists all write insanely great reviews on the new product.

Apple blitzes the holiday season with the new T-book, tablet device from apple retailing for ONLY $1,499.95

Then all the iPod iWhores go ape **** and buy one this christmas season, and apple reigns supreme.

Can be that Apple wants to touch the Window users and benefits from this event to inform all the public ones. Keynotes was very (too much) advertising and self-satisfaction.

The keynotes are well for "mac geek". Can be back in SF.
On M6, a French TV magazine recently presented Steeve Jobs like the megalomaniac head of a sect. In Europe, macintosh is very minority.

Not that many Mac heads in Canada, either (except maybe in a few major cities).

In fact, aside from myself and my brother (who bought a Mac mini on my recommendation), I don't know anybody else in my city who's a Mac user.

For all you intel fanatics waiting for the first macs with intel processors:
I'm going to laugh when Apple has to switch back to PPC due to the outstanding amount of legacy machines still out there and the poor sales of the intel macs. Why would anyone REALLY buy a mac with an intel processor for any other reason than OSX AND at a premium when they could get a dell or make their own or something along those lines? Anyone who is holding their breath for "intel pbooks" or whatever needs a slap in the face. PPC forever, end of story.
(BTW, I am hoping quad proc PM's, bring daddy the good stuff Jobs!)

Where are you located? I'm currently in Thunder bay, Ont.
Happy Birthday by the way if your profile is correct.

And yes, my profile is correct. Thanks. :)

To me at least it makes sense to update the PBs now and wait on the powermacs. I think that the Powermacs should be the first forray into the Intel world. If you think about it, they are the ones that would benefit the most from the jump in architecture, not to mention power users and design houses have the most cash to plunk down for the new powermacs. Imagine, a dual 4ghz powermac...power users drool.

Powerbooks and iBooks are dearly in need of a PPC refresh

Also, if you notice in the save section of the apple store powerbook and ibook refurb prices have dropped slightly. A good indication of things to come
