Oh good, now I don’t have to pay any money to watch the second season of the only show I’ve watched more than one episode of: For All Mankind.

Two words for Apple TV+'s lack of success: Eddy Cue.

I'm convinced he has something on Tim Cook to keep his job after so many screw ups.

Anyone replying saying that they have AppleTV+ but haven't watched anything on it, please do yourself a favor and check out Ted Lasso—it is fantastic!
I have recommended it to several friends and they've all loved it.

After that, The Morning Show and For All Mankind are also worth watching, but they are really more standard fair TV shows.

I get Disney+ through my sister, Netflix through a friend, and I have Amazon Prime Video through... wanting 2-day free shipping...

I’ll be paying for Apple One soon (though I don’t really care about Apple Music or Arcade) and even then, at the end of day, I’m not paying much for all the content I get. Not all the shows I’ve watched on Apple TV+ got me hooked, but I think there’s enough for me to justify getting in within the Apple One subscription. Ted Lasso, Dickinson, The Morning Show, Home Before Dark, Foundation, I’m always down for nature docs too... and there’s a few I’m interested to check out still. Then again, I work in the business so I end up watching a whole lot of content... and I think it’s even tax deductible.

I've had it free since launch and I can count on one hand the number of times I've watched something on there.
This. Not only is the selection small and largely directed at a different demographic than I seem to be a member of, but the content is mixed in with everything else in the TV app so its a pain to find anything. If they would just make a dedicated section for Apple TV+ content (preferably split into Movies, Shows, Kids, etc.) that would go a long way towards increasing the chance I'd actually watch something on it.

  • Long Way Down was fantastic in 4K HDR+. It's as good, if not better than The Long Way Down and The Long Way Around. Great if you love adventure documentaries.
  • For All Mankind is good but no where near the quality of The Right Stuff on Disney+.
  • Earth at Night is fascinating and gorgeous but it's not quite the quality of an Attenborough documentary.
  • I've heard Ted Lasso is incredible but I HATE sports so ... (same kind of thing with The Morning Show)
It's kind of a mixed bag. I do love the UI though. It seems to know what I want to watch and get me to that episode within a click. I prefer it to all the other services and it's even good on our TCL RokuTV.
I also don't care a fig about sports, but I loved Ted Lasso. Although it has some soccer in it, the show is really not about sports—I don't want you to miss out!

I don't know how to explain it—it's a little like if I avoided watching the great Christopher Reeve Superman in 1978 because I didn't like newspaper publishing.

Apple should concentrate on what they are good at - creating amazing hardware and software. Leave content creation and curation to others.

Anyone in the U.K. seeing this? Mine is still due to end in early Feb. I’ve had the free access the whole time, and got the last free extension but mine hasn’t changed yet.

edit - as of 20th Jan this has changed for me too. 2nd July now.

I’m cancelling after the trial is up. At least I’ll be able to see all of servant season 2.

The problem with Apple TV+ is that it is all original programming. Why do you think Netflix had Friends, Sherlock, etc? You start with familiar content and then transition to original programming. Unless they dig into to the iTunes movie library, there is little to compete with in terms of content. If they could not get people to pay during the pandemic, then I really don't see how they are going grow this part of their business. Apple better have a few trump cards up their sleeve.

Keep the extensions coming 😁, I enjoyed the; See , Morning Show , Tehran, Truth Be Told, Defending Jacob TV shows , a few movies as well as the Oprah segment.

Doesn’t work in their apps. Their TiVo app used to have a Prime filter, but it went away with an update and the Apple TV app doesn’t have it either (and has other issues like cutting off descriptions).
I’m in the UK and it works in their apps for me. Both the iPhone app and the Apple TV app work fine with the Free To Me filter.

I was ready to upgrade to a paid subscription, but I'll gladly take this extension. I've watched several high-quality movies/series/docs, certainly enough to justify a $5 monthly plan. I'm grateful it's not a dumpster bin of content like Netflix -- instead of quality, Netflix just throws money at the wall and occasionally something sticks. Apple definitely curates their content and it shows.

That’s probably there best comparison I’ve seen. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

I have it, and although I have watched a few shows on it, and they are good.... it is extremely difficult to have to do anything alone by myself, and being forced to just because of a virus makes it worse. I likely will continue the subscription even after the free period, so when I can travel again, it will be something to watch on the planes. most movies the airlines show put me instantly to sleep.... so it will be good to have available.

We watched them and I can’t agree more: beside that nothing else. 3 shows are not enough to push me to subscribe
Plus I don’t like Apple TV + structure, so difficult to navigate , not friendly at all.

On my iPhone etc. the subscription still says ends and next invoice is Feb 1. I want to hear officially from Apple (email like last time) and see the subscription setting change on my devices or still might cancel when a day away.
Other than lack of content that interests me - I think the interface, etc. needs work. I watch while at the gym so I often stop middle of an episode. On Apple TV+ I have to remember what episode and where in the episode to restart = with Netflix, for instance, it starts up right where I stopped it.

The extension will kick in towards the end of the month just like the previous , you’d also get a notification from Apple ahead of the renewal date change

The only two things I have watched on Amazon are Grand Tour and Fleabag. Honestly, I think Amazon is slowly melting Clarkson's soul.

yea, the new approach is not as fun as the old in a tent. Amazon does have some good shows, but not enough that I'd susbscribe if I didn't have Prime already; in gact most have some shows I'd watch but would subscribe and drop just to binge watch.

It's interesting to see how streaming services make their numbers - I basically get Netflix from Tmob, HBO Max from my ATT Internet at no extra charge and a year of ATV when I signed up for TMob TV; which is $15 cheaper than YouTubeTV, although I added CBS All access until they get CBS. Would I pay for HBO Max? No, but might pay for 1 month to binge watch. Same for Apple TV - some shows, such as For All Mankind and Ted Lasso are binge worthy, but not enough for a monthly subscription.

4 episodes in Ted Lasso. I don't get it. What's the appeal to those who dig the show?
As a football fan (US and real football), I found the whole fish out of water story interesting. It would have been easy to make him a buffoon, or the smart beyond expectations coach who shows the Brits a thing or two, but they didn't. Ted was a very sympathetic character and the ending was not what one might expect. It may be a Major League in Britain style story but took a different tack.

Yeah. I actually pay for HBO Max, Disney Plus, Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube Premium (ad free YouTube, not the live TV). Prime and Apple TV+ are included in other services/purchases. I am grandfathered into a great wireless plan and it would cost me $20 more a month to move to a plan that includes a streaming service and I would lose my throttle free unlimited.

Out of all of these services we get the least value from Netflix, and actually talked last night about canceling it. I have been re-watching Community this month on Netflix and realized it's on Prime with all the episodes as opposed to the censored release on Netflix. I am leaning towards replacing Netflix with Epix when Get Shorty returns.

im a right wing pro family pro masculinity pro christian! when they start making shows gears towards the other 50% of the country I might subscribe
