WORST Commercials Ever

This ad campaign is the major driver that makes me think some people are right when they say Apple has lost its luster. I have been ardently defending Apple since the 90s. I buy just about all of their products and I just got myself the new 27" imac. However, everyone knows that part of the magic that is Apple was in the way the package was delivered. I'm talking about Steve Jobs being excited about a new product. I'm talking about the way that Apple painted its competition as old and boring (IBM, Microsoft, etc). This commercial campaign is AWFUL.

I recently attended campaign management school in Washington D.C. A presenter who has designed some of the most famous political ads in the last 25 years had only TWO ads to show us to make his point about really GREAT political advertising. To my surprise, they weren't political ads at all. They were the "think different" and "mac v. pc" ads. He said they were among the greatest ads of all time. Specifically, "mac v. pc" slammed the competition, but did it (he said) in a fun way that everyone had to admit was true.

Advertising at apple has shifted away from edgy and fun ... and morphed into boring, dull, and forgettable. This makes me think that the things people are saying on here about Apple "losing its touch" might just be true. If I was to write an ad for apple ... it would be the easiest thing in the world. Something funny... and yet true. "Hello, I'm an iPhone ... And I'm an Android." Then one of them falls on the ground and says, I just cracked myself because I'm made of cheap plastic.

Don't really understand the hate. I mean, they're not brilliant, sure, but Apple did worse. To be honest, the only Apple ads I found 'brilliant' were iPod ads anyway. The rest was just meh.

Riiiiiight

If you were able to read my last post ... I pointed out that the AUTHOR of the MOST famous ads in all of American history brought only TWO ads to show in Washington D.C. for Campaign Management school. 1. "Think Different" and 2. "Mac v. PC" .... If you can't admit that those two ads were freaking GENIUS ... then I can't help you.

wow, these are shockingly irritating. makes me understand apples recent troubles. damn, they are wrecking this company.

Yep ... read my analysis on page two of this blog.

Meh

These aren't terrible, but they aren't really up to Apple standards (or what used to be Apple standards) either. I think the one area where Apple misses SJ the most is in promotion. They still make the best products, and in most cases it isn't even close. But there is no buzz - and that is not just because the technology has matured. They need to bring in a high-profile spokesperson, and a demanding vice president of marketing, and they need to do it quickly. Steve wasn't just gifted when it came to marketing Apple products, he was genuinely proud of and excited by them (and not just because they would make a lot of money.) Right now, that is missing from their public face.

WAhhh these ads are so annoying and loud. Apple is doomed. They suck now.

Typical response we're gonna hear

The best ads were the old iPod/iTunes ad from ten years ago. Very original. Although I think these are ok.

"WORST Ads ever" dramatic much? The only thing boring, dull, and forgettable is iOS in it's current state.

I am now embarrassed to own Apple devices

I would have thought owning the "latest and greatest" iPad/Phone/Pad mini would have done that for you...

These are brilliant.

Totally different, but really perfect. They show it off in a way that transcends discussion. It isn't even a product. It's an idea. You can't compare any plastic Samsung to an idea.

Apple doubling down on these commercials just to piss people off here. :D

Nah, Apple is doomed. If only they'd listen to the much smarter people here... :D

Not as annoying as the whining I'm seeing here about a little shout every 10 seconds. Give me a break

They show words and then show apps that relate to the words. Duhh...

Oh and these ads aren't hurting Apple, it's Apple's laziness with the iDevices and iOS that's making them seem less appealing. If iPhone and iPad users were this critical of iOS, THEN Apple would be doomed.

these are actually pretty clever. Well done.

i know this isn't Steve Jobs' Apple but these are pretty smart and make you think about high culture and pop culture together.

I don't like people shouting at me. Terrible ads - very hacky.

What happened to Jeff Daniels? :(

Same commercial could have been done with an iPhone 4s. When you watch a Samsung commercial they don't focus on the Apps; they focus on the phone and what it can do. Don't people already know by know that Apple has Apps?
And I don't like the same music theme and approach. It doesn't feel like a new commercial.

Why... because you have access to the great apps in the commercial?

You know that's what these ads are all about, right? Apps!

15 apps in 60 seconds... I don't know any other way to do it.

People already know about Coca-Cola... but they still have commercials... ;)

Just a suggestion for all of the complainers... present a better idea. It's a better use of everybody's time. We already know you don't like the ads, we want to know what ads you'd like to see. :)

These ads are so bleh, they might as well be for dogfood or detergent. The music is kind of irritating, too. It will get the ad noticed, but is this the way Apple really wants to be noticed?

I suppose if you have no new product, you resort to this. But it is indicative of Apple's general lack of direction.

BTW, virtually all (all?) of these apps are available for Android. So what's the point?

Sad.

Yeah I feel the same, not really a fan of the new ads.. Hope they change it up soon. I preferred the older ads..
