Why... because you have access to the great apps in the commercial?

You know that's what these ads are all about, right? Apps!

15 apps in 60 seconds... I don't know any other way to do it.

I was indirectly saying that the ads suck and are getting worse each time. No one needs a sesame street learn to spell for an Apple ad.

You guys are nuts. These ads are excellent.

1. They show you all sorts of useful things you can do with an iPhone. The selection of apps being shown off is fantastic. Not only are you seeing cool things you can do on the iPhone, but you're seeing real world applications of the phone, such as with the Hue light, with Starbucks payments, and even with a remote controlled helicopter. There's so much variation here. Apple has had a lot of commercials over the years that show off App Store apps, but I think these two ads show off the best collection of apps in any such ad to date.

2. These ads are extremely memorable. A lot of people are complaining about the shouting, but look at how it grabbed your attention. Between the distinctive music, the cycling 'clicks', and the yelled adjectives, these are not commercials that you just see and just forget a few minutes later; they stick with you. They immediately grab hold of the viewer, and then show him or her all the great things the product can do, as I mentioned in point #1.

All in all, these are great ads. People who are attacking them are just stricken by nostalgia. Everything old is always considered better because it becomes a 'classic'. Give these time to sink in, wait a few months or years, and you'll view them in the same way. Aside from a few misses (like the celebrity Siri commercials last year) Apple's advertising is as good as ever.

The Apple iPhone Ad, Brought to you by the letter I and the number 5

Begin Intro.....

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Same commercial could have been done with an iPhone 4s. When you watch a Samsung commercial they don't focus on the Apps; they focus on the phone and what it can do. Don't people already know by know that Apple has Apps?
And I don't like the same music theme and approach. It doesn't feel like a new commercial.

Apps are what it can do. And iOS can do sooooo much more than any Android phone because of the Apps that are available. Many of their so called innovations are from Apps developers created for the iPhone several years ago, like bumping the phones to transfer contact info.

Errr...what?

I don't think you realize what Android 4.2 can do ...

Horrible ads. The shouting reminded me of Sesame Street.

Who is signing off on these ads???? Will the next one be brought to us by the number 5 and the letter S??

Not as annoying as the whining I'm seeing here about a little shout every 10 seconds. Give me a break

They show words and then show apps that relate to the words. Duhh...

Oh and these ads aren't hurting Apple, it's Apple's laziness with the iDevices and iOS that's making them seem less appealing. If iPhone and iPad users were this critical of iOS, THEN Apple would be doomed.

I agree with the whining and iOS 6, but iDevices?? iPhone 5 is an engineering marvel.

The only lazy folks are the worthless tech bloggers and journalists who lump iPhone with other "high-end" handsets like Galaxy S3, when in fact, those phones aren't even in the same class when it comes to design and manufacturing sophistication.

Us geezers miss these old school ads!

Why back in my day sunny 10 cents would buy u bubble gum and soda pop!

Now I want to get some of those Philips Hue bulbs :D

Agreed!! I think this is the most clever/insidious thing they've done for a LONG while in adverts. Showing awesome 3rd party support. The Parrot AR helicopter, the Philips Hue light, even tuning the guitar...!
Really differentiates them from their (Android) competition.. Likely most people that see these commercials previously had no idea that iPhones could be used to control other objects as shown... bravo, Apple!

Fair Ads, but shouldn't Apple focus more on what the iphone itself can do out in the real world instead of what the apps do? If they are promoting the Devs who made these apps then good job, they nailed it, if they're trying to promote the device then that's a horrible fail. A similar Ad could run on the 4s,4 and 3Gs release period, this is not moving forward. I'm afraid it's only enticing to those who are afraid to look for other options.

The iPhone is 6 years old... everyone already knows it's

  • a widescreen iPod with touch control
  • a revolutionary mobile phone
  • a breakthrough internet communications device
:D

And what's the first thing people do when they buy an iPhone? Install a bunch of 3rd party apps: Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, and a bunch of games among other things...

I understand your point... but the iPhone is part of a platform... not just a device. And apps make up a large part of the experience.

What can the phone itself do? Make calls, text, send email, play music and videos. I don't think you need a commercial for that. My old trackball Blackberry did that ;)

I agree that they could have run this ad for previous iPhones. And they should have. Older ads only focused on one app. These commercials show many apps.

I actually dislike most of the old iPhone ads. Those are for the general public. These new ads are actually from Apple that "Think Different".

I love the music and I love the shouting!

I dunno..., maybe you are being facetious?

A quick search in the Google Play store finds a few Parrot apps, including the AR.FreeFlight 2.0, as well as a whole bunch of guitar tuning apps, such as Tuner - gStrings, as well as three separate Philips Hue control apps, including the stock Philips one.

Maybe I am stupid, but I am not sure what Apple is trying to achieve here and how this is differentiating the iPhone?

Or maybe Apple thinks its fanbase is uninformed?

I get the ads now or at least I've found a way to enjoy them.

Its a simple formula. The jingle is the part where you dance. The drum beat is where you quickly stutter to it before the final pose where you shout the word.

Its fun.

As for the more direct purpose of the ads, most of you folks are here are insane (metaphorically). Jesus even you guys can't recognize that even right here among the nerds of the net posting on a FORUM no less, people are asking, hey what's that app (that came up after the word...)? For the average joe, they are seeing all this cool stuff they can do and are asking the same question, what's that app? Where can I find it? I can do that?!

Whatever you think, these at least are not terrible even if you don't like them.

Most likely uninformed... so it doesn't hurt to reinforce the great apps available on the iPhone.

Developers are thrilled with the iOS ecosystem... and Apple knows this.

Also... Apple owns the iTunes App Store... so they are promoting that in these commercials too.

If Samsung showed a bunch of apps in their commercials... they would be promoting Google's Play store.

Google's ads have shown off a few Android apps... why shouldn't Apple ads show off iOS apps?

missing the innovative and creative spirit of Apple

Apple needs to come back with something strong. They just let Samsung make a mockery out of the iPhone 5 and the Apple fans. Usually it's Apple doing that.
Even their product release events have become predictable and boring. I hope this is just the calm before the real Apple is back.
