And for those people who have kids I wouldn’t give them fine China to eat off either. Is Apple the outlier I can’t say as I have had Mfi cables stop working.
Except we don't use our phones a few times a year, we use them every day. Personally, I have a USB port integrated into an electrical socket next to my bed, and charge it every night. This also means that if my kids are capable of opening a door, they can also get to my phone while it's charging.

OMG this is so weird. Yesterday, my charging cables started playing up again.
In previous posts I have said this ALWAYS happens to my phone when a new update is on its way within 10 days.
I’m gonna place a bet that there will be an update within 10 days if not sooner.

Why does this happen literally every time? My idea is that Apple software is way more manipulative than they let on (not like this hasn’t been proven many times) but surely there is someone who can read their code and figure out what triggers things like this for certain users..

You can bet the bank there will be some software update in 10 days of some sort another. However, I use some MFi cables and don't have an issue with them on my max or Xr.

Every time this happens and that’s how I know an update is coming. Then oddly enough around the same timeframe after it starts working again.

At the moment I have it charging with a £1 cable and £1 external battery charger as nothing else is working - Mac, anker or official...

Currently got it on Airplay and taken nearly 20mims to get to 7%

Wondering if this is some type of random hardware problem.

Very possible. Just wish I knew why it always happens round the update time..? Do Apple send out any tests before they release the update? Not really sure how they would but could explain it

IMHO it’s too big of a coincidence that it happens every time a software update becomes available. I feel that some of the “Appleheads” that voiced opinions early on in this matter were quite unkind and possibly unfair.
Maybe a class action suit isn’t the answer (Southern California is a litigious area of the country). However if you count the number of times that the fix request for, “This accessory…supported” shows up on Apple forums & Genius Bar appointments, not to mention the sheer volume of YouTube episodes purporting to have “solved” this problem with the same old tired “advice” you should consider the possibility that her complaints are justified.
Now when you notice that the problem is more frequent with older model but brand new iPhones… Hey folks if it “walks like a duck and quacks like a duck“ perhaps planned obsolescence is at least a reasonable possibility. I’m not too sure about the “non-MFI” cables causing electrical fires…I have yet to see any evidence supporting those statements. The fact that this error message occurs with real MFI CERTIFIED & APPLE cables, & the iPhones in question charge by software not hardware, in and if itself implies a software issue.
What would be the harm Apple, especially now when Genius bars are closed, in writing & sharing a patch with everyone that disables the “cable sensing” software until further notice?
So what is the best way to coerce a large corporation in US to prove it’s intentions? Not rhetorical I don’t know here…I’m really asking.
I want to trust Apple here...I was getting ready to get my first non windows OS portable. (iPad Pro folio and all), but I think I’ll wait to see how this plays out.
PS hey Apple I live on my iPhone so I need to be able to use it when battery runs low especially from a hospital bed. Mag chargers just don’t work well in the hand. Well gentle beings? How about you does the need for “hand use but still charging” something you could use?

UPDATE JULY 16 2020
I ended up purchasing a new 7th gen iPad and have already had this probleM occur. I ended up jailbreaking my iPhone 8 plus just stop this problem I didn’t bother with what they called tweaks or any of that other BS. And that did solve the problem, except once I updated to iOS 13.5.1 jailbreaking was no longer an option I hope I’m not going to have to do that with my iPad. iOS 14 looks very promising I hope it releases soon but I understand the need to work out the bugs. Based on my experience I just cannot believe that this cable charging problem is anything other than deliberate and I am very very disappointed in Apple.
