When you are on universal credit they tell you to access your journal at all times
That’s what your work coach tell you to do
You need to be able to access it at all times to accept comments
Like answering emails that they send you when your out & about.
If you actually used the service you would know that
Your on a tech site yet you don’t own a smartphone
In this day and age you need a smartphone to even get supermarket discounts like Asda rewards
Asda rewards are not essential.

Accessing non-essential services does not act as justification to say smartphones are essential.

If the only way to buy food, or pay your water bill, was via a smartphone app, then you could say owning a smartphone was essential. Accessing Asda rewards, Twitter, Facebook is not essential, therefore the device you use to access those services is also not essential.

CostCo is not Coca Cola. Costco is a competitor of WallMart.

And you won’t be shopping and WallMart at paying at CostCo either.

If you shop in Apple their own store, you pay at Apple too like in every other store in the world. Demanding that Apple is not allowed to do this is a witch hunt.
There is a big difference between an individual shop & a smartphone app store
The business model is different

Asda rewards are not essential.
The point is you now need a smartphone just to access discounts from supermarkets and to save you money
How else do you access these discounts then if you don’t own a smartphone?
It is essential if you want cheaper shopping from your local supermarket

Getting the food is essential, getting the food with a discount or earning points is not. You don’t need a smartphone to go to Asda and buy food.

Yes but you need a smartphone to make your food bills cheaper & that is essential
And you can only do that if you have a smartphone phone
So based on your logic it’s not essential to have cheaper food bills
Just think about that for a second

No it’s not essential to have cheaper food bills. It’s essential to have food. Asda could offer you the cheaper food bills without the need for a smartphone app. It’s therefore optional and not essential.

What are you going on about the competition needs to develop their own product?
So app developers are now competitors with a mobile phone maker because some want alternative payment methods
If they don’t want use an app store’s payment processor they should be expected to pay for access in other ways or forgo access. No store should be expected to allow apps that are revenue generating for free unless they want to; and if they do free to what apps are allowed access and on what terms.

In my experience, there are ways to put in a reward number at the POS that doesn’t require a smart phone.

it’s not optional if you have a dumb phone and there for you can’t get your food shopping cheaper so you are forced to pay a higher price.
Therefore it’s essential to have a smartphone in this day and age for you to be able to keep your bills down and more companies in the uk are going that way like tesco & morrisons too name a few

That still doesn’t make it essential. What you are describing is a nice to have.

the only way to download Asda rewards is by using there smartphone app and there is no other way.
Lots of companies in the uk used to provide physical cards to use like Tesco club card but these companies are now going down the smartphone route so you have access this way to get cheaper things.
food places like Gregg’s & other have started doing the same
So if you don’t have a smartphone then you miss out

So it’s not essential for your household to have cheaper bills but you want to pay more than your neighbor for the exact same shopping?

Then vote with your wallet and shop at places that don’t require an app. As long as people support this discriminatory behavior, greedy companies will do it.

The point I was making is these big supermarkets are now only offering apps as the only way to get cheaper food so that in turn is making the smartphone a essential device because it then unlocks the ability to get cheaper food
And more & more companies are going down this road in the uk
if you get my point

Unlocking cheaper prices for food is not essential. It’s desirable, but not essential.

Yes, and it is discriminatory and the UK should investigate such collusive anti-consumer practices and force them to offer alternatives.

So strange to me that multiple countries around the world are taking issue with Apple's business practices. I'm starting to think that they've been actually implementing unfair policies and requirements.
So strange someone wants easy money. Apple promotes a lot of other apps even crap ones instead of theirs, but hey Apple is evil!

I think you need to go find a dictionary and look up the word "essential", because it's clear that you don't know what it actually means. Hint: it is not "something that would be nice / useful / advantageous to have".

Allowing 'sideloading' would open the floodgates for Spyware, Malware and a flood of shovel ware to infiltrate iOS.
Feel free to get an Android if you want to deal with viruses and people stealing all your data. NO ONE is forcing you to use any Apple devices.
Yeah! Look how bad macOS has been all of these decades you've been able to "sideload" apps onto it! It's a disaster!

no one is stopping you from having an open device to install whatever you want... go buy that Android device if that's so import to you usage,

there are powerful enough and well made Android devices.

vote with that wallet, punish Apple for their stance, make your political statement.
do it. you'll be getting what you want.
and we can keep what we want too. :)
