This is a sad thread of blind fools that have no idea what they are talking about. china owns what! We industrialized it and load them the money which they never paid back.

Apple needs China more than China needs Apple. This is a FACT! There is no where else Apple can go where you have 500,000 employees, let me say that again, 500,000 employees, crammed up against one another sleeping, eating, working, sleeping, eating, working....all in one sardine can. Yes Apple, you will bow down to your own greed. China gives you the ability to maximize profits, this one is gonna cost you in the short run. But don't worry, you'll find a way to get that money back. And I know for sure you will not leave China. Guaranteed. You need China a whole lot more than they need you. Corporations are lined up to no end to get into China more than your customers are lined up to get your iproducts. Anyone who honestly thinks Apple can push for their own way in China are sadly mistaken. The Chinese Govt runs China and it's corporations. They are the type of govt that will kick you in the face and then tell you to your bleeding face that they didn't just kick you and demand you to believe it. Good luck Apple.

I see whole bunch of apple defense force needs to learn what exactly is happening in the business world.

Apple needs Foxconn like rats need scraps of food to survive. There is a reason why apple was so hyped to set up shops all over china. It's because they are cheap. CHEAP. No countries around the world will work for how much those poor chinese are getting paid.

The both of you are wrong.

Have any of you lived in any country outside of where you are born, probably not.
I have been to around 35% of all countries in this world, most of them developing countries, in all continents except Africa and I can say you this:
There are plenty of places Apple can go to, and they eventually will, did you read the news that minimum wages went up 23%, in certain provinces of China.
Indonesia would be a good candidate, politics and economy are improving by the day, investors flog into the country.
Minimum wages are competitive and more and more people are educated.
Africa is a continent which is climbing up the ladder and will eventually be the place to go.
Just look back, wasn't Japan delivering what China is now, and not only Japan, South Korea, Taiwan are other places which delivered the goods before, they all got more expensive and many companies(cheap Labour) left.
It will happen again.

That's like saying Apple doesn't need us customers. our money > Apple > Foxconn. Yes Foxconn makes other stuff for other brands, how come they don't have $100 billion sitting in the bank? BTW I should add Foxconn is Taiwanese not Chinese.

"multibillion dollar supplier needed, raise hand if keen" Yeah I'm sure you'll hear crickets with a offer like that.

No, saying that Foxconn could do without the sliver that is their business with Apple is not like saying that Apple could do without their entire customer base. It's more like saying Apple could do without their pro customers, which is evidently what Apple themselves think.

Never paid back? American companies "gave" money to chinese companies in exchange for goods and services. You got what you paid for, what is there to pay back?

I doubt that. If you sell something that does not belong to you, property (intellectual or physical) does not simply revert to the buyer, with you and the real owner arguing about liability. Instead, the real owner keeps its property and the buyer is left exploring his legal options with you.

If, in the transaction involving the use of the name, ProView Europe said that the Chinese rights were included, and they actually weren't, then Apple has grounds to sue ProView Europe for fraud and misrepresentation. If the rights were assumed to be included, then Apple needs to fire the idiots that negotiated the contract(s) on their behalf and either pay up or walk. It's deliciously ironic that the iPad might not be able to be sold in the communist country that manufacturers it. Some part of my subconscious finds that hilarious...

I would have thought after their leader Kim Jong-Il died things would have improved there. Apparently not. China still up to no good.

Isn't China famous for building bad mock tech? Either way, Apple should bring those jobs home to America, it would certainly help the economy.

People keep insulting an entire continent and my post was deleted for pointing out the ignorance of these people. What a joke!

Most posts are so clueless to what is going on in this case. Here is some info for those interested:

http://www.chinahearsay.com/a-closer-look-at-the-ipad-trademark-case/

It has been going on for awhile now so I am not sure why it just made news now... For those too lazy to read the article basically ProView Taiwan sold the rights to the iPad name to a fake company Apple set up. However iPad (usage in China) was not legally owned by ProView Taiwan but by its subsidiary (though a separate legal entity) that is ProView Shenzhen. ProView Taiwan can't sell what it doesn't own so the case has merit. It just happens that this happened with the Chinese subsidiary vs say South Korean one.

Anyway with how big Apple is and how many people Apple and its suppliers employ I strongly suspect this will be brushed under the carpet by the courts. People seems to think it is this Chinese company trying to bully Apple but in reality it will be the other way around.

Reading through this thread, people don't seem to think this chinese company is trying to bully Apple, they seem to want Apple to bully not only this company, but the entire country of China for some reason.

Name one person you know that is willing to polish an iphone 12 hours a day for less than minimum wage in America. Apple already employs Americans and they are highest paid positions. All this bring the jobs back to America stuff makes me laugh, none of you would EVER be willing to do these jobs myself included

C.R.A.Z.Y. numbers.
Does anyone know exactly what kind of product(s) Proview used the iPad name for?

I hear it is a product that reads a bunch of thread posts for you. Which keeps you from asking a question that has been answered several times in a random thread. Cool concept. Right?

Apple should close the factories in China and open in the USA.. Maybe that would change their mind

Interesting, you would think Apple had their ducks in a row when they bought the parent company.

I have a feeling Chinese law is not as forgiving as others, but that is strictly a guess.

Apple just registered the iPad name in Taiwan, and they thought it was also available in motherland of China , but it is not true. As far as I concerned, in fact China doesn't include Taiwan now, Chinese law is not effective in Taiwan, vice versa.

I'm sorry but you cannot in any way compare China to Korea and definitely not Japan,so no their are no similarities.
