Aaaaaand there it is ladies an gentlemen....

it was only a matter of time before an 'merican launched a lawsuit.

Well, it was predictable.

Lawsuit aside, The part of this where Apple are most at fault here are indeed the Bella Ramsey adverts run back in September t sell the iPhone 16s... which turn out to be showcasing non existent software.
Silly move, Apple.

Perhaps, but the PR damage is going to be huge.
Maybe but let’s be honest, folks in the Apple ecosystem don’t care cause we buy their products for a multitude of reasons already. Identifying people who switched over from non-Apple devices solely for AI will be hard to prove and go nowhere. Bad PR will get clicks and tie up Apple resources but nobody is gonna bail on Apple products cause of it.

Well apple intelligence was a big selling point of their 16 range; and we're nearing halfway through the product cycle for the range so yeah.

If nothing else; i can imagine apple being forced to accept full refunds for not delivering as advertised.
Not sure how many would actually do it (probably not a lot)
I made an account to tell you that I will definitely ask for a refund if given the chance. My partner and I purchased the new iPhone because of the intelligence features.

Regardless of all the consumer “pros” claiming don’t buy products based on future promises…there’s still things you can’t say or do as a company beta tag or not. Apple might actually have to answer for this one.
Nah, don’t blame it on consumers when a company blatantly lies. I bought a 16 Pro Max knowing they would release the features with a future iteration of iOS 18, they didn’t, they lied, they can have the phone back and give me my money.

Id be pissed too if I purchased a new iPhone to get those features
I did, and I’m quite happy with the feature set thus far. Apple always made it clear it was an iterative development process, that required involvement from developers, and that the plan was for the features to roll out over the coming year. That year isn’t up yet, and software development has always had a +- 50% factor on the timeline anyway, especially for quality-driven projects, not to mention the impact of the huge amounts of additional scope due to the interference by the EU on the product release cycle.

This suit is frivolous at this time. Ask me again 2 years down the road.

Yes, I would definelty ask for a refund too. I bought a +1000 dollars phone and it doesn’t even have the features they advertised it. I only bought it because my previous iPhone wasn’t going to be able to run AI. They lied

It’s not about abandoning ship, it’s about Apple’s reputation and standing in the novel AI world. They used to be leaders. Now Apple starting to look like your technological challenged grandparents. It’s kinda embarrassing tbh.

I care. I upgraded to a 16 Pro Max just to have the AI, I knew it was going to be released in phases but I never expected them to lie and push back the features until maybe 2026, reports say that maybe even 2027

The suit targets Apple ads that showed off Siri features that were unavailable, and claims that Apple cultivated “a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these transformative features would be available upon the iPhone’s release,”
The same ad literally has a disclaimer at the bottom saying “some features and languages will be coming over the next year”. I’m not defending Apple for announcing stuff before it’s ready, they deserve all the public pushback they’re getting. But I just don’t think a lawsuit will be successful, unless 2026 comes and they’re still dragging their feet.

This is not true. If it were true then they wouldn’t have had the need to announce the delay.

They why they had the need to announce a delay? How can it be a delay then? Apple itself has admitted they didn’t deliver
