This from the person that thinks a $1599 MacBook is somehow a big deal for back to school.
it is a big deal..

How could one think its not?

Their only other offering in that size is is $900 more.

This is aimed at students and non pro users who prefer a larger display.

Yes, there is. The pattern is: It's a software event that happens every year, where hardware is rarely announced. So the way people constantly make silly predictions about mediocre hardware introductions being "saved for wwdc" as if its some kind of stage for that is a ridiculous.
there was hardware in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022.
That’s not “rare”.
Once a decade would be rare, 10 times in the last 17 events is NOT RARE.
Even if we just cut it down to the last 10 events, there was hardware at six of them.
A 60% chance of hardware is NOT RARE.

WWDC is a software event. There is no reason to announce hardware at this event unless it has major software development significance, and an overdue Mac Pro has no relevance there. They can launch that at any time. And you are not going to see M3 Macs any time soon. Definitely not this year. M3/A17 are the first 3nm chip out of TSMC which means low yields and low supply, barely enough to satisfy the A17 chip orders for iPhone 15 Pro. You'll be lucky to see M3 in the first half of 2024. The 15" MacBook Air is just a new size, and will ship with the M2.

The 15" MacBook Air would be perfect for those that don't need the power of the MacBook Pro but want the big screen. An M2 inside of it tho, that doesn't make sense since the 13" MacBook Air with the new design had an M2 chip and that was announced last year at WWDC. I bet the 15" MacBook Air will have either and M3 or maybe the M2 Pro chip.

You’re right, my mistake, college students absolutely love paying $2500+ for their bigger screens.
All sarcasm aside, you’re forgetting about something really important…
Students already get a student discount, and a back to school promo.
Now… tell me $1500 and a free pair of AirPods for a 15 inch laptop is gonna make students say “no thanks”.

I don’t see new MacBooks being released until we’re into the second half of the year. I just don’t think a 15” Air would be released separately with an M2 and then the 13.6” with an M3 the same year. It would make sense to release at the same time, and July might be the time, which would mean an announcement at WWDC — but I thought any hardware here would be focused on the XR project. So I just don’t know.

This 15" MacBook Air will be M2. If there's an opportunity get users to upgrade to a M3 even just a few months later, greedy Tim will do it.

No, its aimed at people who want a 16" MBP and can't afford one.

It's not aimed at the people that can barely afford the lowest end MacBooks as an upsell.

WWDC for both 15” Air and Max Pro would be my guess.

WWDC is the best time to announce a Mac Pro imo and the 15” Air could then release alongside the 13” Air with M3 skipping M2 altogether.

That would be a year after the M2 Air released and a good time for an upgrade itself. Works with the 3nm production timescale too I believe…?

Yep, when there are perfectly serviceable $999-$1199 options already available.

You dont have kids do you? They say they want a computer for school but what they really want is a gaming machine they can do homework on. I doubt many would say, "no beloved parents, I don't want that $1500 computer with a bigger screen when this perfectly serviceable one with a small screen is available for a $1200." Now the parent might push for that, but eh, little Johnny is leaving home! Just saying there is no one size fits all computer for school, but typically the student will push for more, not less.

Apple this week filed a new listing in the Bluetooth Launch Studio database, a move that sometimes foreshadows the launch of new products. The filing does not mention any specific products, but it lists the latest Bluetooth 5.3 standard and references a prior macOS-related listing, suggesting the filing could be related to upcoming Macs.

Apple is rumored to be planning new versions of the MacBook Air and the Mac Pro for release in the first half of 2023. The new MacBook Air is expected to feature a larger 15-inch display and the M2 chip, while the new Mac Pro is expected to have the same design as the 2019 model with a new M2 Ultra chip. Both new Macs could be announced as early as March or April, potentially alongside the release of macOS 13.3. However, there remains a possibility that the new Macs will not be announced until WWDC in June or later.

Bluetooth 5.3 offers benefits such as improved reliability and power efficiency, according to the Bluetooth SIG, the organization behind the standard. Apple has added Bluetooth 5.3 to several recent products, including the iPhone 14 series, the latest Apple Watch models, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini, and more.

Apple typically goes back and adds new products to existing Bluetooth Launch Studio listings once they have launched. It's still unclear if Apple plans to hold a March or April press event this year or if new products would be announced via press releases.

Apple already updated the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip in July 2022, while the Mac Pro has not been updated since December 2019 and remains the last Intel-based Mac that Apple sells brand new. The new MacBook Air and Mac Pro could be the last models in the M2 series, as Apple is expected to transition to the M3 chip later in the year.

MacBook Air must sell allot of units.

I don’t believe apple products are very good for gaming. Perhaps Windows or Xbox and PlayStation would be better.

Then why would they have bothered to FINALLY redesign the body for the M1? They coulda just left it in dated casing like the Mac mini. iMac is still the best Mac one can own in an office setting. just need some semi pro options like they always had before with intel
Especially since it has Ethernet which is more common than WIFI in the corporate world.

M2 Pro Chip would be nice

Peeps, I think the MacBook Air is gonna take over. The more features Apple packs into the super-lightweight and silent MacBook Air, the more Pro-enough it will be for most people. For example, it would be a lot more "Pro" if there was at least a single USB-C on the right side. Having no right-side I/O is like having no passenger-side door on your car.

Bring on a iMac Ultra with no chin but a raised bezel like the Ultra watch. I'll take a base M3 or M2 Ultra or Max variant as long as it comes with enough ports and a decent screen size (27, 32 or 34 ultra wide) and VESA capable.

Sounds like the kind of thing Apple would do. After they gimped the iPad10 by not using the Pencil 2, I don’t have high expectations of Apple doing the right things when it comes to budget options.

IMO it’s going to be a simple embiggening of the 13” Air. I won’t surprised one bit if we got stuck with the same 2 ports on the left together with MagSafe.

Air is not that important. A budget consumer machine.

I must have missed the announcement that Microsoft Word for PlayStation…you know the topic being macs students can use in college not what is the best gaming platform. 🤦‍♂️
