That's why theres HTML5 alternatives popping up every day

i hate flash as much as the next person, but guess what... PEOPLE WANT THE FULL BROWSING TODAY, not tomorrow, not next week/month/year.

here's a wild idea: let's incorporate flash AND HTML5.

If Flash was on the iPad, I would disable it (just like I do on my Mac.)

I'm not aware of any major company basing new products on Flash, it's mostly used for advertising as I understand it. There was a recent talk given by a Venture Capitalist who actually listed any company built on "Flash" or "Silverlight" as being "unfundable".

Flash on a tablet is a "minus", not a plus. Real flash apps often depend on "mouse over/hover" or pressing keyboard keys. That doesn't really make for a good tablet experience. Plus it slows down web browsing as every site sees flash and decides to deliver "rich" ads (even though the site itself doesn't have any flash on it.)

And this "full internet" people speak of, are you talking about Farmsville? Because other than a stray video here or there, and a few flash game sites, nothing else seems to suffer without Flash.

Pardon my drama, but why is there any demand for any tablet? IMO they all suck, especially the iPad. A device targeted for the internet without the most common internet plugin is just a waste of time.

Watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpiVeC1Z3yI
It's the "Year of iPad 1" video.

It was on the Apple website and was shown at the Apple keynote. Seriously watch it. Then ask yourself - Is the iPad as terrible as you think? That video really makes you think and just be amazed that a product one year old has touched so many lives in a good way.

People can argue all day over what specs/features the iPad should and should not have. But in the end the sentiment of the video shines through. In the end it's not all about making a better device. The device as good as it is, is just a tool and a platform. And it's up to the developers and users to take this platform further and to new heights. And they did. They took something pretty good and made it amazing.

Just watch the video.

There are many of users that are completely happy with the iPad and ANY limitations that some seem to have issue with...

As to your comment about lack of "the most common internet plugin" - why not just say Flash? I for one don't mind waiting for the laggers to catch up with HTML5 - better power savings, and major heat reductions.

Some might say I am feeding a troll - but can say that the iPad has replaced most of my internet needs. Apps like Snapseed from Nik Software are showing the future of the tablet - in particular the iPad.... In the end the Apps many of us use are enough to make a tablet worth owning...

Just a couple more days until we find out the iPad sales figures for the quarter. With supply catching up, this should be a strong sales quarter.

Because I like Apple computers and their products. But I don't have to like everything about Apple. Right?

No one is asking you to. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it any less of a product. It's popular among the masses and is the hottest selling product around so something is seriously wrong with the way you are evaluating it.

So many arguments amongst nerds, the tech savy, and Apple fans alike. Opinions will always exist.

Can't we all just love each other?

And find mutual ground for why (most) of us are on this site? : :apple:

I was thinking about exchanging my white ipad2 for another due to light spots on the edge now that the inventory has increased. Any thoughts?

ROFL that tells me you don't have one if you can't see all the things they are sued for, I feel for your loss. :D

Go for it. Or you might want to live with it a bit if rumors pan out that there will be a higher res version and get that. That is, if that appeals to you. If not, then by all means, get another White iPad. You need to be satisfied with your purchase.

Buy a tablet that does flash rather than bogging down mine, thanks. I don't care what other people want. I want, and paid for, speed, stability, and long battery life. And your generalization about who wants what and when isn't exactly supported by the sales figures.

So just now catching up on demand. Supposedly releasing a new/upgraded iPad in 2 months. Why?

I'm betting it will be a model designed to live alongside the current iPad 2.

I am quite disappointed with those who are taking the troll seriously and responding to that post. Half the posts in this thread are about that and a vast number of threads are like that. Ignore them and just focus on the topic of the thread.

Well they're still very hard to find in the UK at the moment, I did buy one last week (which seems to have been the last 64gb WiFi only model available even though I just strolled into a store and bought it!).

It was mainly to use when travelling and for the first hour or so I was a little underwhelmed - it's like a big iPhone 4 with a worse screen. A couple of days and apps later and I get it, with iPad specific apps there are some really good things starting to happen, even just for regular sites like IMDB and Twitter, in the UK Autotrader is our main car selling site and it's about 5 times faster on the iPad app than the regular website on any PC.

Garageband is awesome, I work for a speaker company (Acoustic Energy) and half our staff are rock musicians - when we hooked it up to a big set of speakers and let them go to town they all decided they wanted one, I know you can get it on the Mac but the touch and pressure-sensitive instruments wouldn't work the same way. In many ways it's a toy but as it gains acceptance and the "Cloud" services all start to kick in it'll start to make a lot more sense.

The low-res screen concerns me - if the next gen is indeed higher res which it probably has to be then what happens to the apps? iPhone apps look ridiculous, will the older iPads be able to downscale iPad 3 apps or will they simply not run? If there ends up being multiple variations of everything that will only lead to awkwardness for developers and less support for these earlier models.

As an aside I took my iPad back for a refund - it had one dead pixel, one stuck green pixel and light leakage down the left side. None of this was drastic and I could have lived with it but for £560 I expect this glorified netbook to be perfect considering I could have bought a pretty powerful PC for the same money. The lady at the store said Apple have to verify all returns before they will accept a refund but when she punched it into the system it had a new note saying "Apple no longer require fault verification on iPads for return". Seems this QC issue must be quite a biggie. Are Apple slipping as they become more mass-market? Victims of their own success or just a blip? Hmm. I'll be buying another as soon as I can but I wonder if the quality will be better - no-one else noticed the problems I did but not everyone is as picky - fingers crossed!

Now I remember why I don't leave comments. Because a vast majority of Mac rumors are blind Apple fanboys.

What is a fanboy? I've seen it written in French too, fanbois. I can't figure out why someone trying to act condescending would use such a ineffective made up word.

And picking on blind boys is just taking it too far. IMHO ROTFL LOL WTF

Are you blind to the fact that they are selling millions of iPads?
We have two and use them all the time for internet and many other things.
Flash is NOT a problem, it affects minimal sites and takes away all the advertising rubbish.

I respect the back that you don't want or need an iPad, but please respect the fact that many other people do, and are VERY happy with them.

how about going back on topic? i bet hes not even reading the thread anymore and yet everyone feels the need to reply

I've got an Android phone, so it (theoretically) supports Flash. I turned it on for a site once, and everything ground to a halt. I haven't enabled it again since then.

On my laptop, Firefox runs with FlashBlock on. There simply aren't that many sites I visit that require Flash for anything useful. iPad owners aren't missing out, in my view.

i really dunno how you are doing with all that glare.

recently i was in the Moscow sub - people are reading a lot there, and compared e-book reading with the ipad under the bright top light - well there's no comparison, ipad is a sucker.

find a way for readers, Jobs

i'll stick to MBA for now
