If the next iPad has a higher res screen, it will be exactly the same situation as when we went from the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. Everything will just work. The only thing developers will eventually need to do is provide higher resolution versions of any bitmap images in their apps, but no massive redesign will be necessary. The lower res iPads will still be able to display these apps just fine, the same way an iPhone 3GS today can still run apps designed for the iPhone 4.

You have to ask why? If you read and believe all of the rumor pages, and you seem too, last week Apple released an updated MacBook Air and Lion along with a new MacBook Pro which is really a MacBook which is really a Cinema Display. What else can Apple deliver new after last week's bumper crop other than a prematurely updated iPad 2-2HD-3, of course. That is why. Or at least what else will the rumor pages have to rumor about.

No really.... good to see Apple caught up... I wonder what their daily production rate is? If the iPad HD rumor is true, it's going to be a killer holiday season for them. I hope there's a iPod Touch with Retina too.

Apple has found a niche in bring us products that we never thought that we could do without; the iPod, iTunes, iPhone, and now the iPad. So much so that it appears that the entry level Alpine car stereo now has iPod/iPhone connectivity as a standard.
Happy to see that production has now caught up with demand here as well. Means more happy folks that will drive even better apps...
I placed an order for an iPad2 and an iMac last Sunday evening. The iPad initially was supposed to arrive this coming Wednesday. It showed up on Saturday ... literally less than five minutes after the iMac arrived.
This might have been said already but how do we know for certain that demand hasn't simply fallen to meet supply versus the other way around? If this were true, the rumors of an iPad update before the end of the year would now have a shred of credibility to them.
Why would anyone have an Apple product engraved? It kills resale value and seems like a rather frivilous thing to have done to a tech product.
Not everybody buys an item with an eye toward selling it down the road. Some people have lives and look for ways to make life more enjoyable. I can't imagine how someone would find personalizing a gift a negative thing.
I think the adage goes like....

What makes us fanboys? The fact that people like ME have had an iPad for a year and half. Use it 50% for business... use it 50% for play. It does EVERYTHING I need it to do.
Your original post basically said "you are all idiots for thinking the iPad doesn't suck because it doesn't have flash."
By the end of this year... over 50 million iPads will be in the hands of consumers that must all be idiots and are going to be stuck not being able to watch Flash. Did you ever think that YOU are in the minority of people that actually still care about Flash? You realize what's happening to non-iPad tablets that run flash, right? You realize that my 10 hour battery life is several times longer than some Android tables when they are running flash?
And then go on to say "it's here to stay." This just tells me that you aren't really paying attention. You realize that Microsoft is banking their entire Windows future on HTML5? You realize that the vast majority of sites that provide video have HTML5 video for devices without flash? Just because a site uses flash on the desktop doesn't mean that it uses flash on the iPad.
You realize that Adobe is (finally) building tools to do HTML5 in addition to Flash? You realize that tools like http://www.sencha.com/products/animator/ are being developed to handle all the old Flash animations?
Who cares about research though when you can just say "iPad sucks because it doesn't have flash and if you disagree with me that just means you're a fanboy." Hasn't that argument been discredited for a good year now?

89.3% of computers sold in the USA were not Macs. I guess that proves your point admirably.

I just seen at least 10 in a case a my local Wal-Mart. So they can't be that behind. It's crazy to think that iPad 2.5 or 3 is rumored to be on the way. Big rumor

Apple Store Norway say "Ships: 3-5 business days". So Apple clearly still have a bit of availability shortage, or else we would have the same 1-3 business days as the US. Just like we do for other Apple items.

The iPad could do a lot more than it does. It sucks sometimes when it cannot do all we geeks would like it to do. However, it is a good little machine.

Doesn't work if it's viewed in browser (on safari it redirects to the YouTube app, atomic web browser doesn't do that - which I concede is my fault for using that browser)
haha you're obviously an amateur, HTML 5 is basically replacing the outdated "flash"
