Most professionals deal with market sensitive data or some secret company product or project or defense related work or company mergers etc. We are all required to maintain secrecy of such data as condition of employment or SEC rules. I never discuss company information with any of my family members or friends, nor discuss work related issues. A certain discipline needs to be exercised. If I bought or sold a stock based on some market sensitive information I receive, both I and my family member could go to jail. It is thus best not to get into such situations.

That’s too bad but her dad should have been more aware.

She should have sat on the vid another week and been one of the first to have a real iPhone X vid up.

Exactly! I'm a little baffled that her dad didn't bring that up with her. Let her know it would only be cool after the pre-order dust had settled.

Ok, I figured it out.

The guy was ready to retire.

Apple said “We'll give you a nice little parting bonus if you help us make a security propaganda video. Bring your daughter for lunch and film her playing with the iPhone X. Have her post it on YouTube. We'll wait a couple of days til it goes viral, then we'll “fire” you. She'll make another video announcing your termination, so that everyone is reminded about what happens when you leak our IP.”

If that’s the case, that’s some Great acting from the daughter

What did he think the big ol’ DSLR in her hand was there for?

Every single video ever take on a big ol’ DSLR gets automatically posted to YouTube? Poor guy probably thought it was just for a home video. She’s probably always filming.

I understand rules are rules but this phone was no secret and many were photographed and videoed out in the wild already... I think Apple could have showed some leniency here. It’s not like anything they release is a secret any more, so they’re doing a crappy job of being a super secretive company as it is. Don’t try to come off as a super secretive company when any schmuck with access to the Internet knows exactly what you’re releasing months before jacka$$es

father completely assures her that it's not her fault.
(which it really isn't)

you don't have a daughter (or child), i assume?
It doesn't matter if the father assures her (most fathers do that). Her justification was lame. "Other youtubers did it, but when I did it, I didn't know it would blow up and my dad would get fired. But he takes full responsibility."

The father was the primary person to have taken responsibility, but she should have taken some responsibility for her actions nonetheless.

The daughter stated she didn't care whether her YouTube channel got views, and her posting the video wasn't about views. As soon as she said that, I could see that she was laying the groundwork for 'its not really my fault' scenario.

Both parties are to blame and dad has to pay the real price by losing his job. In my opinion, dad should be ashamed of the video posted for the thread. His daughter doesn't seem to have any backbone.

I feel badly for the father. He probably had no idea his daughter was going to cost him his job trying to get Youtube famous.
All he had to do was say “put the damn phone down!”

I’m sure he will land of his feet with google or something

I honestly thought she was a teenager in that original video. It's amazing she's in her mid 20's. And judging by this new video both very narcissistic and immature.

I honestly don't feel bad for her or the father. Just wildly reckless behavior by both parties who absolutely should have known better.

I heard "he takes full responsibility" twice and "he apologizes for the one rule he broke".

I have two kids. I get the fact that I take a bullet for my kids, not the other way around. However I would hope most would feel a little more contrition for publicly posting the video that cost someone their job (clearly not all).

Maybe Google will hire him. I don't think non-competes can be put in place when the employer fires someone either. If so, they'd better PAY HIM his full salary until he finds a new job.

There's some details here that are odd - like why would nobody anywhere on the campus say something about the girl talking loudly into a large amateur canon DSLR with a mic on top, if cameras are strictly disallowed? Maybe everyone assumed this was an approved-by-the-top thing and didn't stop them? And the father had no reservations about it even though he worked directly on iPhone X and had to deal with the strict security measures day in and day out?

Who knows. Awful for all involved.
Or the OBVIOUS camera man in the first video.

I call BS!!! Look at the edit in the video, when the "tears" start! The tears pour from the outside corner instead of inside...

Also, ask yourself, what would Jobs have done????

hmmm
pretty sure she's remorseful of the situation.. to me, that's pretty obvious just by watching this video.

Damn shame someone had to lose their job over this, but you’d have to lack any kind of common sense to let someone totally unauthorised video Apple’s most important product in a decade and then upload it before even the authorised press are able to.

I’d wager he assumed she wouldn’t upload the vid, and she’s too immature to know any better unless explicitly told, and hey presto, video on youtubo.
