I got a conscious. I wouldnt be able to live knowing I put someone in jail because they dropped a phone. Again.. lettuce be reality, would you rather just pay the money than knowingly jail someone...
The Apple employee wouldn't have gone to jail. Might lose his job. But, I would have not left the store. I would have demanded that he get his supervisor and demand that Apple give me a new iPhone 4.

Besides, the police will not get involved in this. They will you tell you it's a civil dispute and your only course of action is to sue Apple in a small claims court.

How is this fake? Why would I make up a story that makes be look inferior and weak?

I mean, a couple days/weeks won't kill him, buddy. And I doubt jail time. They'll charge him to replace it and he might lose his job.

Not that I think about it...being jobless in this economy...you just might kill him.

I call fake, too. Not even an idiot would walk out of the store without getting a new iPhone 4, and I doubt (less so) that a "Genius" would tell you that they're not responcible for his dropping it because any customer would complain beyond that point.

I mean if it's true, there are other issues here... such as just letting the apple folk run you over.

I do also feel, like everyone else has stated, that if the apple employee broke it that that every single apple store in the world would replace it. This is a story of a customer service rep covering his/her arse.

Personally, if I saw he dropped it and broke it - I would have absolutely refused to touch it until he admitted that he broke it or until we could see the store security cameras.

Im inclined to believe that this is fake - but if it's not, the OP certainly dug his own grave by leaving the store.

Guys, this story is fake. No sane person would just calmly walk out the store with a broke phone in hand without having talked to a manager.

Please tell me what type of person would leave like that without escalating the situation?! No one. It's a BS story.

Possibly a kid that’s easily intimidated? Hate to tell you OP…..The store employee is not responsible for damage while trouble shooting a faulty device. I’m pretty sure he didn’t give you a diagnosis’s after he dropped it right?
