This was very nice of Apple, I feel appreciated for having been a .mac/mobileme/icloud customer for 11 years.

I have one request that Apple has yet to offer, and that is the ability to merge years of different email accounts into one.

Microsoft allows you to change the address of your email while basically keeping it the same, none of the existing email disappear. So if you grow out of an email address you chose 11 years ago you can update the address without losing all of your information.

This would be awesome of Apple to do as I am sure that there are other people who've collected a small number of alias and have emails scattered across many accounts. I would just like to be able to convert my .mac account to an icloud account while also being able to change the original address to something more up to date.

As Gruber pointed out the other day 5GB is too less. The base should be increased to 10GB or even more.

I've just two devices — my iPhone4S and iPad 1.0 (that I don't use). Their backup itself is approximately 1.5GB. If I were using my iPad 1.0, it would have been around 3GB in total.

I think Apple seriously needs to push the storage or backup limit or simply don't count backup in the storage as it is backend provided in the services.

I just got the e-mail message as I was checking my account.

If Apple thinks some people should be using these in this "post-PC" world, then 5GB of storage is not enough for people who own an iPhone and an iPad. Especially if both are 64GB devices. If I registered those two accounts separately they'd give me 10GB, but since I bought two, I'm penalized with only 5GB. I assume I'd get 5GB per mac too? That's 10GB more I'm loosing.

Higher storage iDevices should come with more iCloud storage. They're making a great deal on more memory (especially the 16-32GB jump!).

I use about 15GB backup between my iPhone and iPad (both 64GB), lots of books, manuals and reference material between them. Photos (some video) on the camera roll (a little over 1GB on both combined).

Nothing significant in iMovie, a lot in iPhoto App (30MB for documents and data but then an additional 500MB on my iPad not sure what that is from). Noting in any video players (set to off).

And what's with the order in the Backup options menu? Apple items first and then others by size? I've got 400 apps, being able to sort by name would be nice (when looking for a specific app).

Plus, sell it to us in 5GB increments if we like, Apple isn't offering a deal for larger amounts so if I just want 15GB extra, just charge me the extra $30. When I have to jump from 10 to 20GB ($20-$40), don't make me think about it or try to prune down my data, just take the extra $10!

I got the e-mail, too. I'm not sure what to do with it since I don't have iDisk anymore (using Google Drive now). I would donate it to someone who wanted it more if it were possible. And it's not big enough for my iPod touch backups. I think they should give out storage commensurate with the capacity of the device you purchase (64 GB for a 64 GB iPod touch, etc.).

Got mine. Don't need it.

What I DO need, however, is an updated iMac - I can buy a "new" one using 2 year old technology.

Or, I could use a new Mac Pro. I could buy a "new" one and be using 3 year old technology.

Or, I could really use a change to the iTunes Match in iOS6, since I can no longer download or delete any single song from my iPhone - I have to do it kinda sorta by playlist or album and take three left turns to get to a right turn.

Or, I could use a return of Google Maps as a stand-alone app, since it was forcibly deleted despite my affection for it. Good thing it was replaced with an app that told me to take a right turn at a one-way yesterday to get to my destination. Now, here, three lefts to make a right was what was needed; however, the "New Apple" doesn't seem to know the difference or really care, because iOS 6 is a lot smarter than me and knows better than I do what I want or like.

Or, I could use an adjustment to Mountain Lion, so my iMac does not shut down or hide application windows I want and need just because I haven't used them for a few minutes. Wouldn't want to wast that 8GB or RAM I paid for by keeping a window open in the background.

Or...

the 25gb is pretty worthless to me without iDisk access. Im currently using .02GB and have 24.98 free

Exactly. You can give me a free terabyte, it makes no difference to me. Hell, make it a petabyte.

Unfortunately they gave my free space to a mobileme account I haven't used in years... not that it would have mattered. My iCloud renewal date came and went a few days ago, and this free time does not extend that so it would be of no benefit to me.

Every single time you wonder why apple does anything, remember that there is only one reason:

They figure that it will increase total profits. :p

They can increase profits a whole lot more by updating the iMac, Mac Pro, and Mac mini.

Just a suggestion, Tim, if you are reading this.

They don't really need to. Here is why (using my 32 GB iPhone 5 as an example)

Settings > General > About shows:
Songs - 555
Videos - 2
Photos - 471
Apps - 114
Capacity - 28.1 GB
Available - 13.5 GB

The songs? They encourage iTunes Match. Doesn't count against your iCloud space

Videos? Since, technically, the only way to legally get videos in iTunes is purchases from the store and some digital copies? iTunes in the Cloud covers that. Doesn't count against your iCloud space (though videos shot with your device do count as part of the camera roll)

Photos? Oddly, your camera roll does count, even though photo stream should cover this. (Should include videos, too, but I digress)

Apps? Again, doesn't count. Free to redownload purchases.

This leaves save state data, for the most part, what you are backing up.

My current iCloud usesge is 7 GB (of 25 total). This includes the following:
iPhone 5 (32 GB) using 1.9 GB in backup
iPhone 4S (16 GB) using 219.6 MB in backup
iPad (1st gen - 64 GB) using 340.5 MB in backup
iPad (3rd gen - 32 GB) using 3.7 GB in backup

I also have two Macs running Mountain Lion and have documents there as well.

Would I like more than 5? Yes. And maybe by September 2013 it will be increased. But for now, I take this as a gift, not an entitlement.

Ok...look Apple...it's not that I'm ungrateful...but I payed for push mail function with my mobile.me membership back then. You still have not brought that back to your German customers. Hotmails offers that for free...

Apple Rocks!

I have a full 64GB iPhone, and was using 16GB. I adjusted it down to 14GB so my renewal would be $20 instead of $40, but then I never got charged on Sept 30th. Saw the date was extended to 9/30/50, but figured this wouldn't last. Apple obviously couldn't shut people off after this mistake, so they gave those that were eligible an extra year.

Considering that those of us who paid $79 or $99 a year for MobileMe, and supported Apple, I think this is an extremely nice gesture.

Now I can up my backup, and maybe I'll stick with the 25GB at years end, after getting a 5.

Not sure what you mean, iCloud mail pushes. It may not push your other mail, but your iCloud address will push.

I totally agree.

The base limit should not be 5GB. It should be at the least 5GB per device.

The only reason I think Apple is not doing so is because they are millions and millions of iOS/OS X users and more users adding every day. Giving 5 GB extra to say — only 10 Million users will result — 47 PB which is HUGE!

I think — give it one more year, Apple will probably find some solution to this.

Cool, can I have my iDisk back now?

Why? They gave you iDisk for the particular duration of MobileMe? They are simply not interested in it.

Don't you have dropbox and other services for free?

Exactly! Since Apple devices come at a premium cost, 5 gb per device seems really reasonable. As it is, I can backup only my iPhone or my iPad to the cloud, but not both because that would exceed the 5 gb limit. If I were to buy an additional iDevice, I'd be out of luck for that one too.

Apple keeps track of how many devices are registered to your Apple ID; it couldn't be hard to link storage to the device ID as well as the Apple ID.

Me three! I actually haven’t started using iCloud backups, but this seems like a reasonable perk.

In fact, simply don’t count backups towards your free limit. Simple.

I just want an @iCloud email address already.

I had thought I paid for another year for the 25GB iCloud Storage but I'm glad Apple isn't charging me for it for w/e reason it may be with the background work there doing with trying to move MobileMe to iCloud for good.

But why isn't it hard for them to just give us all @iCloud email address now?

I think 5GB per device is not reasonable. The iPad's cost also has others costs factored into the price.

iOS is not free, cost included in the device price
Using iCloud itself is not free, cost included in the device price
Etc etc.

For the time being Apple first need to give people a way to use the cloud storage. Then give us more.
