you are paying 1 thousand to get in and you are only getting a 25$ gift cert? they SHOULD be giving out freaking ipads or something substantial.

Why would they be entitled to an iPad?
And they are getting "something substantial... it's called WWDC, that's what they paid $1599 for.

I'm an iOS developer in high school, and I'm @harrisonw1998 who tweeted that above--I won a WWDC Student scholarship, and my school administration approved this as a fully excused absence from school, so don't hate! There are 200 student developers that won scholarships to WWDC this year.

Well done mate for winning ;)
I'm in college now and I would be amazed if they stopped anyone who won from going to WWDC or anything like that - its not like E3 or some gaming conference - you will learn alot of information about app development and will help with finding work.
I bet you if i went to WWDC I'll get back only to see it on PanCollege (college intranet which has all the college news, dates, email so on) when it logs on - not great if you want to keep it quite!
Wish I could go though!

If we're saying there are, roughly, 5000 attendees, that's $125,000 (nearly £75,000).

Apple makes that amount in a click of the fingers!

Or you can look at it another way... by selling roughly 125 iPhones!

What's with all the cryptic course titles at WWDC? Some made me chuckle…

No Comment, Shhhh, can't tell you yet, It's under wraps, Still our secret, You'll find out in a few days, It's confidential, We're not telling, You'll never guess this one, We still really can't say, You're just going to have to wait and see, This one's a Doozy, etc etc

Are they always like this?

Seems as though no one here is taking into account the money that Apple has to pay to the Moscone Center or any city taxes to SF for use of the place. The ticket fees to WWDC aren't clean profit to Apple.

If they gave a candy, people would complain because it's just a candy. If they gave an iPod Shuffle, people would complain it was not the iPod Nano. If they gave the Nano, it was not the iPod Touch. If they gave the Touch, it was not an iPad Mini. If they gave the Mini, it was not the iPad Air. If they gave the Air, it was not the iPhone 5S. If they gave the 5S, it was not the 6... Stop complaining, will you. If was worst if they gave a potato.

I think its just Apple's way of having some fun and a joke.

I'd keep the voucher and sell it. There are only 5000 of these (they're unique) so you could probably get a lot of money for them.

Very true, hadn't thought of that.

I take it that you never keep something of value just because of what it represents. Not everybody cares about the almighty dollar especially when it comes to something that is of limited release.

Not everyone finds sentimental value in small objects either.

Or you could just watch all the presentations free with a developer account. The 'labs' they have are crowded and full of noobs. Most people who go have their company pay, no one would pay out of their own pocket for this.

Holy crap it's a lot bigger this year than last year, then.

Just a hunch, but I have a feeling the people complaining aren't the ones attending.

Exactly. Why should companies be giving out free stuff anyway? You get access to Apple engineers for a week. I'm sure most of the developers going there aren't doing so to get free goodies.

Congrats!
Keep up the hard work kiddo!

all this does id guarantee that $150,000 will be spent on the app store. Smart move by Apple.

tbh the coat is worth more than this voucher...all are pretty bad though when you do look at say Microsoft who were giving away Surface Pro 3 tablets away to their attendees.

tbh some will say they had to give them away and it is a publicity stunt...but still they gave them away.

why not give a japanese style mystery bag away that may have an ipad or something in it ...get rid of old stock...they paid loads for the tickets after all.

I never knew about the coat. I would love to have one. Off to eBay.....

So you're going to WWDC then? That's amazing. I'm personally in year 2 of high school, and I could only dream of going to WWDC. Are you barred from talking about the application process?

Not at all! When they annouced this year's WWDC, there was a whole page for students. They took it down since. You have to create an app about yourself that showcases your coding skills and creativity then submit it to Apple. The conference; however, is under NDA.
