Its nice, but it does seem meager when you compare what Google and MS gave the attendees of their developer conferences.

Wow, a lot of spoiled people here -- and sour grapes. I've been to a number of conferences from TechEd to PDC to DevConnections. Some better, some worse. Most give away crap (yes, MS usually gives away crap). But you're not there for the swag. You're there to learn and grow your career. If you get something cool for swag then it's a big win like the lottery.

I wouldn't say that, I just made a comparison that MS has given away better. This year an Xbox 1, last year I think it was a surface pro.

Google has given away phones in the past. A 25 dollar gift card is a bit cheesy for a multibillion dollar corporation trying to keep developers happy. Yes the WWDC sells out in seconds which is why they needed to go a lottery, but if you're going to give something away, do it right.

Most years MS has given away the equivalent or less than what Apple has done. Also people keep thinking that the ONLY thing Apple has done is give a gift card. If you've ever been to a conference you'd know that wouldn't be the only thing. There are different reasons why companies give things away in conferences. BTW, at TechEd 2013 MS didn't give away Surface Pros. They firesaled them at a big discount.

Most years most conferences give away roughly the equivalent of $100 worth of stuff. A lot gets thrown away. You can win things in giveaways but that tends to be a 1/1000 chance.
