I feel like apple is saying we didn't wanna put the time into getting you anything with thought put into it so we just got you a giftcard.

Sorry I'm just sad I don't get to go. :(

only $25 ?

oh well,, better than nothing......

Not really going against Apple here, we buy their stuff, but they can only give WWDC people a mere $25 ?

i would of gone $50 or $100.

I'm an iOS developer in high school, and I'm @harrisonw1998 who tweeted that above--I won a WWDC Student scholarship, and my school administration approved this as a fully excused absence from school, so don't hate! There are 200 student developers that won scholarships to WWDC this year.
No hate, just poorly disguised jealousy :)

Enjoy it!

You're in high school and you're a Conservative political strategist?

I guess it's not so surprising that Conservatives are getting their political strategy from high school students.

No, Apple is saying, "Along with your paid developer training you will receive this coming week so you can make great software for our products that will make you $$$$$, we are also going to include (along with the badge and jacket we're providing you for attending) a token app store card (limited only to attendees) that symbolizes the 25 years that WWDC has been in existence which you may use or keep, as you may never have the chance of coming again. ;)

Honestly.

Well that's their problem. Most people do. Sad state of affairs when the only thing valuable to people has to come in large packages.

Not based on market value, some people just don't consider objects worth having sentimental value over.

The keynote stream is much appreciated, but I also wish they'd stream the "Platforms State of the Union" talk. That's the real _developer's_ keynote.

For contrast, at Google's developer conference each year, everyone gets $1,000 to $1,500 ( more than it costs for the ticket) worth of gadgets, which are sometimes unique models made just for the occasion.

Even RIM used to give away Blackberry devices at their conferences.

That aside, the biggest problem is the limited tickets available for all these conferences. You'd think that with all the demand, all these big companies could do at least quarterly meetings. (Although that would probably require dedicated meeting employees instead of just dragging in some company developers from their jobs once a year.)

Congrats and I'm happy for you! Never mind the 'old' farts here on MacRumors... :D

Yeah back in the old days of society where people expected 16 years old to be at school :)

Not haters, it was a valid question to which the student replied to .

Apple are tight arses.

They could have thrown in a pair of Beats this time around ;)

$25 voucher..... Pffft!!!

Congratulations mate, enjoy the event !!!

From his twitter:

What does his age have to do with anything, in any case? If he's an idiot or otherwise unpleasant individual I'm not sure all the schooling in the world will help cure that.

LOL a conservative that takes all these handouts? Exposed!

I'm open to a political discussion, but snide comments and blatant stereotypes don't help your argument at all here. :)

I'm not getting the point you're trying to make here.

The way I understand WWDC, Apple's entire campus basically shuts down for two weeks to get ready. I don't think quarterly would make sense for a company that operates like Apple, but may be good for others.

I doubt a point is trying to be made. Just ad hominem attacks - typical tactics amongst those who would otherwise lose an argument based on reason/logic. I'd recommend just ignoring for the moment as they currently have the upper hand.

all are pretty bad though when you do look at say Microsoft who were giving away Surface Pro 3 tablets away to their attendees.

They did that to make sure at least SOME of them made it out into the wild. ;) :D

(I'm primarily a PC guy and actually think the Surface Pro 3 looks quite promising- but EVEN I couldn't pass that one up... :) )

Congrats to you! Enjoy yourself and don't let the sarcastic comments get you down.

There's a 16-year-old attending WWDC? Shouldn't he be in school or something?

Come on! What better education could he get in an industry he is interested in than networking with experienced and or passionate people in such a rich (in more ways than one) environment? The equivalent of Google Summer of Code is the only kind of thing I could think of.

And its so pointless. Every other major company (Google, Microsoft) simply has multiple developer conferences per year. It's past time for Apple to get on board so that more devs can attend.

Agree. The conference is in Moscone West while Moscone North is not used this week and Moscone South is for the DAC conference this week. There is an underground tunnel connecting Moscone north and south to avoid going outside. I can be expanded locally without much more effort.

With it being June, odds are he is out for the summer. Also, IMO he'll get more education at this conference away from union teachers than a whole year of public school.

This is a collectors item. I'd certainly not be actually using the card. It's only $25. And $25 iTunes credit on it own won't do much for a dev.
