Great opportunity for customers! Now just let us do monthly payments for Mac AppleCare.

That’s fine, but this conversation is about the initial 2 year plan, not the month to month one.

No need for the curt response.

Along the message-line you responded to, someone claimed the date of AppleCare+ coverage started on the day you bought it, not the day of device purchase.

Someone responded to that saying that was wrong (in fact, they were wrong).

Somewhere along the line, one of them claimed that doing something one of them suggested couldn't extend the coverage beyond three years.

You said it would extend it UP to three years (correct).

So, I thought I'd mention that there's a way to make AppleCare+ extend beyond 3 years if you wanted to. That seemed somewhat related, and I thought could be useful to someone.

And for what's it's worth, I didn't just speak about the month-to-month, I also spoke about the initial plan in conjunction with the monthly plan.

Heaven forbid someone bring up a related point. We wouldn't want you feeling that someone is trying to violate your personal space.

Why is everyone on this Forum so touchy? It's always a tit-for-tat. Lighten up and assume that people are just trying to be helpful.

At their cost these products should come with at least one year unconditional warranty and Support. Then you should be able to purchase additional years at a reasonable cost. I paid less for my second hand pickup than my new iPhone 7 unlocked from Apple, my pickup is still going but my iPhone 7 is long retired. I can fix my old truck too but that’s another conversation.

Apple hasn't been in the game of making quality products since October 5, 2011. They've replaced hardwire innovation with fee innovation.

The irony being you mistake a succinct reply (I literally had just one spare minute at the time) to be curt, then complain about people being so touchy and needing to “lighten up”.

Well, that explains why my first iPhone, a 7+ is still doing well after coming up to 4 years, unlike all those “quality” Android devices I used to own (HTC Droid Incredible 14 months, Samsung S3 16 months, HTC M8 6 months and Nexus 6 13 months).

Well, you seem to be a pro at this, because I thought you'd reply with something like that (we had a bet on it here! lol).

"Curt" implies both shortness and rudeness.

Dude, you don't say something like "yeah that's fine, but we're not talking about that" unless you're being a liiiittle jerky.

I get it, people are more rude on the message boards than they might be in real life (though that's not always the case, we all know those folks..I'm sure you're not one)

I simply offered additional, related information and you curtly said it was unrelated/irrelevant (incorrect). Just try not to be so reflexively dismissive in the future. We're here to have conversations about Apple, not to always have a tit-for-tat (yeah fine, but that's not the exact thing I'm talking about [so why are you saying it].....get it?).

Be well!

You've proven me wrong, your anecdotal evidence is my achilles' heel! Lol, I'm glad you've had a good experience, but I'd rather it had not, for example, taken Apple until iOS 14 to come around to widgets. Just because your 7 still works doesn't mean its worth using when compared to modern phones. As for me, I have an old iPhone 6 I use as an iPod, which won't support iOS 14. I guess the iPhone 6 can't handle the cutting edge widget technology, something Windows Vista PC's could handle.

As people have already noted AppleCare gives you an estimated date but when you actually go to get service they go by date of purchase. If it didn’t what’s the point of buying AppleCare at initial purchase which Apple would rather you do. Think about this logically. There really is no way Apple is extending AppleCare service for Mac beyond three years or a phone beyond the two.

if you purchase the full 2-years for AppleCare+ up-front, the 2 years begins on the date you purchase the AppleCare+. It is not retroactive. You pay for two years, you get two years. This is confirmed by Apple.

Yes but what you are getting in AppleCare+ is other services outside your regularly warranty (help desk support and accidental damage cover)

The extra “warranty” is only after your first 12mths of included warranty has lapsed.

Could you clarify what coverage you’re referring to? Since AppleCare+ can be purchased on a monthly basis for the serviceable life of the device (often 5 years or more these days), or can be purchased for the first two years upfront and then on a monthly basis after that..I’m not sure what you‘re saying (“There really is no way Apple is extending AppleCare service for Mac beyond three years or a phone beyond the two.”) Do you mean in-warranty repairs, and not accidental damage coverage? Just trying to understand. Thanks!

So this still doesn't seem to work through the web for MacBooks bought in the last year (trying to do it for one bought in December 2019). I hope it's because it's not yet implemented and not because it won't work with Macs and/or won't work for devices bought before the policy change.

"Buying ‌AppleCare‌+ basically extends your ‌iPhone‌ warranty to two years and also includes protection for physical damage, including up to two incidents of accidental damage, each subject to an excess fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage. In addition, ‌AppleCare‌+ gets you 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone."

You will have a problem beyond two years with Applecare+ trying to get warranty or repair service on an iPhone no matter when you purchase the one-time option for AppleCare+. It will be two years from purchase. The monthly plan can apparently be extended, but I suspect that wasn't Apple's intention as they expect you to get a new phone every two years if you're paying for Applecare+ every month which is why it's included in the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Has someone actually been able to purchase for a device which is >60 days and less than 1 year old?

Standard policy is from the device purchase date.
This is incorrect.
AppleCare+ starts from the date of purchase of the coverage.
AppleCare Protection Plan starts from the date of purchase of the device, Apple TVs.
