Since ID released the source codes to both aaaaages ago and there are loads of ports for all kind of different systems now (by non-ID people of course), I'm sure its only a matter of time until we see Doom for the iPhone.

All I want for iPhone gaming though is ScummVM. Alas it is but vaporware.

id -- like id, ego, and superego.

a bit ee cummings-esque, but there we are.

Mine was E 74, too, a common failure sense day one. Heat related. Destroys the ANA scaler chip. Worse the heat, quicker the ANA goes. Should be covered by launch defect warranty but they won't. I got two lights instead of one, but screen displayed E 74 just as yours.

Man, I did raise hell. I tried to get phone support to escalate and they refused. I e-mailed and asked for a mailing address, not an e-mail address or phone number but just a post box mailing address, at Entertainment Division group. They e-mailed back and wrote that even if they had it they wouldn't give it to me. I e-mailed Ballmer and got a reply from one of the people his office delegates these things to. Told me, courteously, to kiss off, pay to play.

Our kids have a Wii and I have a PS3. PS3 runs rock solid. Only froze while I was in the Warhawk beta and that was a bug in the Warhawk beta. Gets warm to a little bot but expels all the heat; only the exhaust area stays warm. Doesn't get so hot even after *hours* playing that it actually heats the room too much (I used to have to turn the heat off in the house when I played my 360 upstairs in the master bedroom in the winter, as I did sometimes instead of playing in the living room. And that's not a tiny bedroom by any means.) The heat clouded the plastic coating of my Gears of War disc -- like leaving a DVD in your car in the sun -- so that I got disc read errors quite a bit.

Man, I love a lot, many, many of the 360's games. But these hardware problems! And it's like I got a good unit because *several* people I know have been through four or five, and they take good care of their entertainment electronics, as I do. I'll miss Halo 3 and some others, seriously. I'm hoping after 2K Games' recent yacking about Bioshock, after it sold so freaking well, "this is our own IP, we developed this in-house, we own this" they intend to port it to PS3 maybe by summer or so -- since they are under no contractual obligation to Microsoft for an exclusive. But Gears, Gears 2, Halo 3... I'm out until I have some kind of proof I drop $400 or so on a new 360, the problems are fixed.

hey, i had the same problem too, except i think only one ring light was flashing. i at least know it wasn't the whole 3 because my system was already replaced for that. it could be because this was the second time i had an issue and the system they sent me back wasn't my original, but my system is gone right now being fixed. error code "E 74", HANA or ANA error, which is the chip that helps control the video signals. i would try calling micro$oft up again and demanding they replace it. all hell has broken loose in the past few months when it comes to what they will accept back. i was told it will take a little over a month wait time, when last time it was only a couple of weeks. they are really backed up because they are accepting all kinds of broken consoles now so they don't look bad in the press.

it sucks because it died right before bioshock was released, and now i'm expecting it will come back to me sometime later this week or early next week. either way i already have a copy reserved at gamestop that i have to pick up tonight. pretty lame micro$oft.....can't wait until apple releases the iBox or the applecube. anyone want to speculate on that? my friend has a wii with an apple sticker on the side that he calls his iBox. might as well be.

i'm sad. while everyone is playing halo 3 right now i still haven't received my repaired xbox back in the mail. i went up to gamestop tonight to pick up my copy but when i got there the line was massive, wrapping all the way around the parking lot and back in on itself. rent-a-center was there with some big hd-tvs setup and people were playing halo 2. there was also a news crew there. sorry to say i didn't wait around even though i have a preorder. i'll just pick it up when i get my system back. ironically the gamestop is right next door to at&t and the line was WAY longer then the one for the iphone, lol. at least 3 times longer. it was like a big tailgate party, people everywhere, could hardly even leave the place.
