Dude, can we please have the ability to view, and edit keywords and descriptions in photos? The ability to edit location in photos. These are the only things that have me holding on to OSX. Add that to iOS and I can finally get rid of my 2011 MacBook Pro.

Well that's good news. iOS11 still left a bitter taste, even though I skipped the GM release. I mean really, if basic features like reachability was absent, there's some mis-prioritization somewhere.

This is the right thing to do...with all the delays and problems, it sounds like Apple has spread itself too thin. They need to refocus.

I do think this news with the parental controls and other things has tied their hands to abandon other features for this year.

I hope some of this focus is geared at Mac OS also.

Do we really need a major iOS version every year?
And what about macOS? I'd say they could do a major release of macOS every other year, or even after 3 years.
iOS is getting mature, they have to release a new smartphone every 12 months, but I'd say they don't need a brand new iOS version. Maybe it was necessary for X since it introduced FaceID and lack of home button, but this year they ought to focus on stability and if they want to call it iOS 12 fine, but just improve iOS 11 as they do with .1 .2 and .3 releases.

I don’t see why a company that is by various measures one of the top in terms of revenue, market capitalization and reserves can’t produce non buggy software and new features. This is especially confounding when the software runs solely on their own limited number of devices. The answer to me doesn’t seem to be less innovation but to learn how to be able to produce stable innovations.

Since we do not know what features were expected in iOS12, this article is saying nothing.

You can't possible be that narrow minded. It's not about the specific features, it is about a shift in priorities within Apple. If this is true then it is great news for all those who wished that Apple would do exactly this.

Why is it one or the other? Is today’s Apple incapable of providing BOTH “New Features” and “Performance/Quality”?

My fear for sometime now is that the overall architecture of the codebase has degraded to the point that they can no longer deliver a double. Even getting a solid single with good QC is obviously proving difficult. If so, would they ever have the courage to step back and refactor? I cannot see that ever happening. My one prayer now is that they will give us back the OPTION of using color to highlight folders - notably in the sidebar.

Apple’s been on damage control since the battery/throttling strategy was discovered. This leads me to believe there’s more of these kinds of things that Apple is keeping mum about and want to fix or make a transparent compromise before anyone eager to announce to the world notices.

Or it’s just a little slow in the office this year.

Good. I left iOS because of the software issues. While I have no intentions of coming back to it even if they do fix the issues, it's good to see they are recognizing the problems.

I'm glad that Apple is taking the time to fix the software, but how can we be sure that when they add new features again we're not back in the same position? I'd rather Apple not release anything until it's been completely tested for quality and performance.
You know who likes to test everything so completely? The Japanese. And let's see how Japanese companies do today. Not great at all.
There are times where you need to be agile and fix things on the fly. Sure, Apple went a bit too far with iOS11, but making them to be ultra conservative will leave Apple way behind in the dust. Consider even companies like Xiaomi are designing their own SoC too (Xiaomi is on their second gen in-house SoC). Apple cannot just stay still to make sure things are perfect.

Apple Insider headline says Apple is delaying refresh of the home screen. Does that mean iOS 12 was supposed to have changes to Springboard. Goodness that would’ve received as much excitement as drag and drop on the iPad. Springboard badly needs a redesign.

My iPad Pro and iPhone and Apple Watch are all buggy or laggy under the current versions of software! And let’s not forget, software is the one thing Apple makes ENTIRELY on their own! It is purely their own fault it’s buggy.

And it’s getting a bit tireing to update at least once a week! And it’s still buggy!

Yes I am a disgruntled user!
agreed! iOS11 sucks!

This is some much needed back end work. They need to step away from the front end core and fix the fundamentals. I have issues with BT or Apple Music app crashing or going non-responsive. My HomeKit stuff does not work right. The whole thing needs a solid and thoughtful shake down from the top to the bottom and plug as many holes as they can in a 9 month development cycle. The bugs team needs help. Mac OS is a disaster I have had to field more than one call about botched 10.13.3 updates.

Really though, it’s pretty damning that a company that charges $1000+ for its latest smartphones doesn’t seem to be able to deliver both new features and quality software at the same time. The article makes it sound like a resource allocation issue. It’s not. Apple has more wealth than many countries. This is bad management pure and simple. Under Jobs/Forstall, iOS arrived with a pretty solid X.0 release, followed by a single X.1 release that fixed the outstanding bugs within 2-3 months and that was it. Now under Cook, we get a super buggy X.0 release with some features missing and then it generally takes 6-8 months and 3 major revisions to get the bugs sorted out. Given that Apple has many more resources than they did during the Jobs era, I can only conclude this change is due to poor management. Given how quickly Apple has been jacking up the prices of their products over the past two years, my patience is starting to wear thin.
