"When finished, Apple Park will be surrounded by some 9,000 trees, with a large pond, walking trails, benches, and a fitness center for employees."

So in other words, a luxurious paradise.. If there is a barn there, that's the first step to say "I'm gonna move in"

But I do wonder... Won't they all be too busy enjoying the nature trails, fitness center, on site catering, etc to actually get any work done?

You must be thinking of someplace fun like Google ;)

Nobody at Apple HQ who wants to get a good job review, would use that stuff during their ten hour plus work day. At least, not according to the reviews at GlassDoor, ex-employee interviews, etc.

Will they be doing a wild type grass or some sort of lawn seed? I'd prefer a more natural landscape to go with the trees.

Did they update the barn with chamfered edges?

/I keed...

More importantly, did the bolt the horse after the door was shut ... wait ... I got that wrong ...

I bet they will ... but we'll no doubt hear soon, if not see from drones assuming they are not shot down ;)

As a Google is a scattershot tech and advertising company heavily reliant on copying or aquiring others' IP you're probably correct, they probably have far more time to play at Google.

But seriously, this from Stephen Kurtzman, former Director of Engineering at Google. The last sentence here is very telling.

"Apple is famously a confidential environment. You won't find people from other groups who want to tell you about the cool things they are working on (unless they want to be fired). Google is nominally an open environment. They have TGIF meetings during which they do dog and pony shows about the projects going on in Google. You'll likely find other people willing to tell you about the things they are working on -- within reasonable limits (but, don't expect people at GoogleX to be chatterboxes). As such, Google can be a more stimulating environment just from the diversity of things going on. Though you probably won't get as much time to concentrate on things at Google outside your area as you like, you simply won't have that option at Apple. Apple is a focused consumer tech company that concentrates its attention on far fewer products. I'm sure there are cool things going on and that there is opportunity to switch jobs. It is likely not as easy to do as at Google. But, it is also far less likely your product will simply be abandoned since Apple invests far more in its products and doesn't offer products on a lark the way Google does."

Less likely, sure, but projects are also dropped at Apple. The difference is that Apple employees complain that they can't even mention their abandoned projects in resumes, due to NDAs.

If you ask me, they should have put it inside of a new, bigger barn.
