outside of aviation i dont see a reason for ipads really. ive been happy with my ipad mini and now my ipad 11 air. both run foreflight great. the only thing i would like better is a 10in ipad air with a nano screen.

My iPad from 2019 got too old to use reliably a year ago, I put it down.. and have used my phone since. It’s nice to have when at home or on a plane, but it’s just an extension of the phone for me. I was going to replace it with a mini, but now that Apple is going to release a foldable, I doubt I’ll be going back to an iPad. It has its uses, but for me, it’s a weird hybrid of overkill hardware with underperforming software. Fine for a phone, not so much an iPad - it’s beyond time for a version of MacOS for tablets, or a version of iOS that allows for less reliance on a laptop or desktop.

Why did the post above get deleted? What do you mean Apple should hire software developers and write better software for the iPad?

iPad Pro has a price/value issue. Honestly it can't really do anything that the cheap base model iPad can't do. Just faster and with a nicer screen for the most part. The hardware is way overpowered for what the software can do. If you add the extortion level prices for the keyboard and pencil then you're better off just getting a Mac.

I upgraded to the 11" M4 iPad Pro when it came out with nano display and 2TB. Reused the pencil and keyboard from the 11" M2 model I gave to my son. At that time, it was the only device from Apple that would work on the dinky airline drop down table from the seat in front of me. It would play the "entertainment" provided by the airline. The Mac Neo is just enough bigger it may not fit on the airline table and the 13" MacBooks could be too deep.

See no need to jump to the M5 11" iPad Pro as what I have works just fine. In fact all of my M4 gear works for me and might look at the M5 Ultra Studio but the current memory constraints may make even that a non-starter.

Honestly sad. I wouldn’t buy anything other than an iPad Pro due to the Face ID and screen quality, plus the compatibility with the high end Magic Keyboard.

They also have a very long lifespan and make for great living room computing devices. I reach for it often on the sofa and controlling my home sound system.

Apple, I have an idea: Stop imposing software limitations designed for early iPhone to the amazing iPad Pro and Vision Pro. Treat Pro devices like Mac to allow pro use.

just give it macOS. it's ridiculous at this point when the Neo with an iPhone chip is running it.
iPadOS is a flop and is never going to be the laptop replacement they so desperately want it to be.

And they've added so much bloody padding everywhere in the macOS UI ... either put macOS on touch devices or let's revert some of the UI space bloat in Tahoe.

This spot we're in right now is nuts.

Been an Apple user since 1989, owned at least one item of nearly every Apple product category that was ever released, even printers - if people can remember Apple printers...

Having said that, the top-end iPad Pro M1 that I purchased 3 years back is the worst piece of Apple kit price-performance-wise that I have ever owned.
While the CPU is powerful, the hardware has some unique and unexpected usability flaws due to over-engineering, yet the worst part is iPadOS. I really cannot get used to it. It plain out sucks.

My own realization is that I will never pay that much money for an iPad ever again. It is a complete waste. For the price you pay for a high-end iPad Pro, it's just too much for what you get.

Likely other people feel the same.
So I can totally understand why the iPad Pro is a failed product. Not as bad as Apple Vision Pro, but nearly as bad.

The original iPad got the price / performance ratio right.
But once Apple got greedy and they started laying out a range of iPad products, with deliberate limitations in lower end models, in order to upsell customers to higher end model - that's when the iPad product line collapsed IMHO.
It's not worth the money anymore.

If a low end iPad cannot do what you want to do, you are much better off with a MacBook Neo or Air instead of an iPad Pro.
As long as it runs iPadOS, I will never buy another iPad Pro again. That's for sure. Total waste of money.

ipad Pros ...
Simply too expensive. The air should already have 120hz as well.
The price cannot be justified. I'd love one but ended up going elsewhere to get a 120hz OLED tablet for less than half the price !

Is MR just recycling the same story but changing the Apple product? Apple has "abandoned" this and "abandoned" that.

I wonder if the "disappointing sales numbers" are due to the fact that the iPad Pro is a stellar product and has been since the A18 version. Adding the M1 made it virtually unnecessary to upgrade. I have an M2 and feel no need to upgrade or replace it with another iPad Pro.
