It’s a great amount, for a worthy cause.

But a little perspective never hurts. It took Apple an eye watering 36 hours to earn $200 million profit in its last quarter.

Great cause... on paper

Sorry to be a buzzkill but -
I am of the opinion bono’s Org that’s owns (red) mishandles most of the $$$ and it becomes his personal slush fund. His politics always stink too and he’s a Loyal George soros crony.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ion-giving-tiny-percentage-funds-charity.html

Once a scumbag , always a scumbag.

He also didn’t become the richest rockstar in the world just from U2 ... just saying

Worth a watch imo if you’re open minded to being presented w uncomfortable facts, very eye opening, about an hour long, aptly titled : Bono is evil

Also touches on the time when apple forced users into having a copy of the u2 album on Their devices without their consent

Nope. Bono is one of the good guys. Full disclosure, I was a gigantic U2 fan from '83 to around '97, but that doesn't matter. Do some research. Bono literally, single-handedly, lobbied members of congress — some truly awful, racist, conservative old fogies who didn't give a crap about Africans dying by the hundreds of thousands or even millions from malaria and AIDS — and got the US and other countries to allocate more funds as well as drugs and treatment that saved countless lives. it's fashionable to hate U2 and Bono these days but facts are facts. And that has nothing to do with their albums being mostly **** for the last two decades.

They shouldn't look for better medication, but educate men that rape is bad. Seriously. And sadly this is the truth (look up "Virgin cleansing myth").

Some people can find a negative in basically any story. I’m on the side of “WTG Apple!”. Substantial funds raised. But just as importantly, if not more - substantial AWARENESS raised through this campaign. And they were doing this before being a “good corporate citizen” became as popular as it has become lately.

WTG Apple! Not sure why this is PRSI worthy, what's political or controversial about raising $200 million to fight a lethal disease? We should all be applauding them.
Probably better diseases to fight. HIV/AIDS is an incredibly preventable disease, except for maybe the children born to HIV postive parents.

It’s so easy to prevent (don’t use intravenous drugs and practice safe sex, for the most part), that it should not be as lethal as its turned out to be in Africa.

Education and condoms don’t cost $200 million.

To be very clear, I am not talking about the cost of TREATMENT, I am talking about the cost of PREVENTION, which you’d think would be the focus a few generations after learning the best method of staying free of the disease.

Sadly, here's this example...

....and of course the accusation that U2 didn't earn their money despite having ridiculously high grossing tours over a multi-decade career...

This is a humanitarian issue. But you managed to politicize it with your hate politics. Congrats!

So someone tries to bring another set of facts into the conversation and all of a sudden it is hate.....? I didn’t see where he or others suggested they shouldn’t try to help. Only that the charity could be mismanaged and a lot of the money might not be going to the actual cause. Which unfortunately is the case with a lot of ‘charities’ these days.

Unfortunately there are websites centered around giving people details on how much of the donations to various charities actually get used for the cause versus admin costs etc.

You clearly have an agenda and something other than ‘your way’ automatically gets thrown into the hate category.

You are transparent as are everyone who without thought sinks to the level you just did.

Just discovered the Ignore feature. Deep breath... peace and quiet now.

Product Red is doing good, to the point where one company's patronage is responsible for a third of all the good it does. Is there more that can be done, or can things be done in additional ways? I'm sure that's the case. But we can surely agree that doing nothing would have been worse.

Apple, a longtime supporter of AIDS research through its (RED) partnership, today shared some details on the work (RED) is doing to put an end to AIDS in Africa with the money it raises for the Global Fund.

Since its founding in 2006, (RED) has raised more than $600 million to support the Global Fund, $200 million of which has come from Apple.

productrediphone.jpg

Apple sells a selection of exclusive (PRODUCT)RED branded merchandise, and when customers purchase a (PRODUCT)RED device or accessory, a portion of the proceeds is donated to (RED). Apple has been selling (PRODUCT)RED merchandise for years now, and its most recent release is the red version of the iPhone XR.

Apple is (RED)'s largest corporate donor, and in its release today, Apple shared some stories of the HIV-positive caregivers who benefit from the money donated to the Global Fund, and the full article is well worth a read.

The Global Fund has provided money to thousands of facilities in Kenya and seven other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and it's made a huge impact cutting down on the spread of the disease. In 2017, there were 53,000 cases of HIV in Kenya, a major improvement over the number of HIV cases back in 2000 when 9.3 percent of all adults in the country were HIV-positive.

With improved access to HIV treatment through the Global Fund, which provides 17.5 million people with life-saving antiretroviral treatments at the moment of diagnosis, just 4.8 percent of adults in Kenya were HIV-positive in 2017.Apple is planning a major fundraising effort in honor of World AIDS Day, set to take place this Saturday. From December 1 to December 7, $1 of every Apple Pay purchase made at an Apple Store, through the Apple Store app, or on the Apple website will be donated to (RED).

Apple will also turn the Apple logos at many of its retail stores red to raise AIDS awareness, as it has done in past years.

I'd like to see Apple do something towards cancer. They have AIDS somewhat under control. But cancer in not even close to being under control. And considering it killed Steve Jobs, they might want to do some giving in that direction.

I wouldn’t say it’s under control. If you go do a news search about HIV rates in Europe, you’ll see a bunch of articles published with the past two days that the number of cases are rising, although the rate of increase is slowing. Eastern Europe including Russia are having a really difficult time managing the growing number of infections. HIV is a treatable chronicle condition if you have access to a first world medical system, and either have the means/insurance that covers the drugs, or live in an area where there are organizations and programs catering to lower income folks living with the infection. Access to detection and treatment, even in first world nations like the USA, often is disproportionate across racial and cultural boundaries. And of course there are parts of the world where undetected and untreated HIV, leading to AIDS, is still a raging wildfire of a problem.

Even if it's unrealistic, what they said regarding the transmission of the disease is entirely correct.
Yeah, and if people didn’t go swimming, they wouldn’t drown. And if they didn’t live in multifloor houses they’d wouldn’t die falling the steps. And if they didn’t ride in vehicles or walk across streets they wouldn’t die in crashes.

...If you care enough about the subject watch the video and then discuss the contents...
The video is moronic, rambling and incoherent.
He starts off saying he's going to at least prove that Bono is the worst douche who's ever lived, if not evil. Then he complains about people overreacting. Hm. He compares Bono to Stalin because they both adopted one name pseudonyms. WFT? Then he says he's not going to claim Bono is a pedophile, and goes on to presents U2 album covers to suggest that he is and then rambles on in this vein for at least 10 minutes.

Come on, this is a really, really stupid video.

I said nothing about trump here. Total Derangement!
*Your* video guy brings up Trump. You mentioned you wanted to discuss the content of the video, but did you even watch it?

“Says he’s not going to say he’s a pedo then gives evidence he may be”

You didn’t watch the full video. It’s self evident. You gave it 10 minutes knowing you would reject all of it. And obviously you don’t understand non subtle subtlety / that he’s a comedian In his spare time so he has a playful approach but is making a very serious commentary and Analysis on how bono is not a good person like at all including that

I’m happy you’re outraged by the format of this video. Grrrr lol! Truth hurts. Truth and comedy intertwined, that’s enough to outrage the outrage mob because it’s effective

“Come on this is a really stupid video” great dissection of what’s presented. Very analytical.

Essentially “Come on dude bow to my distaste”

Nah I’m totally good!

I’ll let people continue to meltdown over my
Posts. How joyous :D

And someone who mentions the word trump or supports the president isn’t allowed to analyze bono ? instantly disqualified from speaking about bono? Off limits? Hmmm. That sounds pretty hateful and dismissive and close minded to me

I can’t convince you any better than an hour long video with stacked circumstantial evidence he’s scum. So agree to disagree

These are all largely true.

I'm sure if there were a drowning crisis, "Stay out of the water" would be the obvious answer to guarantee the problem is solved. "Only go swimming if you know it to be safe" or "always wear a life jacket" would also be choices that would dramatically reduce drownings.

You're describing a holocaust survivor, who has donated billions to incredible causes in a negative way. Maybe you should head back to Breitbart, your views aren't welcome here.

Soros essentially caused the Asian financial crisis back in the day, impoverishing tens of millions of people. I suppose giving westerners a few billion makes up for the human suffering he caused.
