Apple Has Sold 1 Billion iPhones

And no mention of Steve Jobs?

Without him, we would have no iPhone, iPad, Mac or iPod.

Thank you, Steve, for your genius. I miss you.
Get over it Tim Cook is the big boss now, he managed to make Apple bigger than Jobs ever did. Cook is the future now, and he is doing a fantastic job. Apart from getting wearables started he also managed to get rid of racists, xenophobes and other idiots from their customer base (bye!!!) .

If every iPhone rang at full volume at the same time, you could hear it on the moon ...maybe.

(Edit: was actually joking...!!! :D)

"News of Apple selling 1 billion iPhones spells doom for Apple. Tune in at 11 for more."

Like any stat of this nature, its backwards looking. We know they've had a good 8 years, fueled largely by the iPhone. I'm wondering if the best is indeed behind them.

Whatever your point of view, one billion sales is an impressive feat.

Does this take into account some of our members that return like 6 iPhones every launch to get a "perfect" one based on whatever "gate" is active at the time ? ;)

It's a stat, that's all it is. And, as you mentioned, it doesn't comment on or contribute to anything about the future.

The only colossal flops are comments like these.

Stick around a few more years. Then we'll all see if you're bombastic certainty of apple's future success is right, or the other guy's bombastic certainly of their demise was right.

In the early 1970s my mother was declared to be the 100,000th customer of Mac Fisheries in Stevenage, and was presented with a magnificent hamper of, um, fish, a bouquet, and a folding bicycle. If I made the one billionth iPhone purchase I'd expect glitter bombs and dancing girls and everything.

Please tell me that they did something special for the billionth buyer, like unlimited iTunes credit or lifetime movie rentals, etc. I love it when companies do that stuff.

This is like when Mcdonalds said 99 billion served. Lets focus on the number - not what we selling now, or what we once represented - Just focus on the number. Apple sounds (and acts) more like Microsoft from the 90's every passing day.

Oh come on... this is an amazing milestone.

I remember people questioning whether Apple should even be in phones.

Exactly. Apple's current success is tied directly to the products Steve introduced when he was alive. The stuff that Tim Cook introduced (Apple Watch, iPad Pro, etc) have been colossal flops.

The story is Apple selling its 1 billionth phone.

No matter who the CEO happened to be... Apple would have still sold their billionth phone.

In a statement, Cook called the iPhone one of the most successful, world-changing products in history

That's because the iPhone was first brought to the world under the leadership of someone precisely unlike Cook. The iPhone was world-changing because the man that was leading at the time it was introduced actually wanted to change the world, unlike Cook who merely copies what other companies are doing (copying Microsoft and Google by replacing skeuomorphism with flat design, copying Samsung by making larger-sized phones that are unfit for one-handed use, etc.).

Congrats Apple, you're just like MacDonald's now, over 1 billion served!

1 billion! Apple's strategy of spreading out a single real iPhone update over 2 or 3 releases is paying off!
