That's cool. 1 billion in less than 10 years is impressive. Let's see what's gonna happen in the next ten years.

"Do you remember Apple?"
"Apple?...... Oh yes, I remember them, whatever happened to them?"
"Well, they got so big and so complacent and simply failed to innovate, like many before them, they HAD a great leader who went, the tried a few new products, but none of them took off, and despite all they were told, would not listen and paid the price"
"Yeah, shame when that happens"
"So now they are gone. You can still see some of their old designs in the tech museum though, something to remember they're past glory days"

;)

Is Tim getting chubby?

I was actually thinking he looks good in that photo his shoulder and chest are showing some definition I think he's looking pretty good for a 56 year old that works too much.

Congrats Apple here's to hoping for a billion more!

Or it might be a float or double limit, which my understanding of is a bit fuzzy.
The app will of course not use Int's. iOS follows IEEE754 floating point notation. In binary32 single precision float, the largest precise integer number that can be stored is 16 777 216 (24 bit).
If you use binary64 double precision, the largest integer number to be stored precisely is 9 007 199 254 740 992 (53 bit). I believe Apple has been somewhat forgiving from this number and up to the display limit of 9 999 999 999 999 999 as very rarely would anyone need that exact precision (here the precision will be every even number). You should try using odd numbers with the upper limit and I would believe you will always end up with an even number even if the calculation should be odd, like if you try to add +1 to a number above that limit.

Tell me what Google or Microsoft or Samsung innovated in the past 10 years?

Nothing, just copying iPhones and iPads and Macs for cheap.

Google Glass is the ultimate flop, Surface "will catch on next year", and Samsung even had to copy Apple's headphone design.

Anyone else find the fact that we cannot live without our phones unsettling? Pretty soon people will not be leaving their homes and will just live in their own virtual reality. We will all look like the people from Wall-E.

But, I am very proud of Apple. They are a great brand that produces great products.

Oh, don't worry about people never leaving their homes. I've been informed by people that's one of the best features of the Poke'mon Go app; it gets people out of the house, lol. Their still not socializing with people to their face, but baby steps. :D

You know what would have been cool? If they orchestrated it so that the billionth phone was sold in one of their stores, balloons fall from ceiling, Tim comes out and presents the lucky buyer with a key.

...that will fit what comes out of Titan in 2021. :)

Yeah, would've reached this milestone faster if the 6S didn't suck and the SE wasn't a rehash of a 4-year old design

I think you have it backwards. The mark would have likely been reached faster if Apple kept an SE-like 4" phone in the line up instead of substituting for the 4.7" phone. If anything the SE is proving that a lot of 4" fans refused to jump to the 4.7" form factor and that held back sales.

As for the 6S, it's a great phone but not much different between it and the 6. The 6 was Apple most popular phone ever, and now that U.S. users have to finance their own phone, the motivation to constantly upgrade is diminished. Combine the two factors of minimal difference b/t the 6 and 6s and $ and you get lower sales for that line.

As far as the sales mark goes, it's a great historical milestone. But it comes at a time when smartphones in general are becoming commodities and there is uncertainty as to where Apple can take sales the next 10 years while maintaining rich margins. To make much of it is like boasting about 20 years of world peace in 1938. It's a reminder that Apple can no longer rely on the past for every increasing sales.

Selling a Million of anything is a great job. Apple has done it with the iphone over 1,000 times.

All those people that want to bitch and complain need a drink or a smack up the side of the head, whichever is appropriate.

You would be a FOOL to not boast about no world wars for 20 years in 1938! It didn't matter that one was about to happen - you would be celebrating an accomplishment. You would be boasting about doing something that was hard, unexpected and truly wonderful. There is NOTHING wrong with that.

Don't need phones to get there...your average grocery store and reality TV, and home shopping networks are doing that on their own.

Really, that isn't really hard is it ...

Ask the guys in FMCG :), likes of Nestle, Coca Cola (1,5 Billion servings per day), Pfizer (Lipitor), P&G, etc.

Lol, c'mon now... did you really not understand what I meant??
You literally cannot live without eating... I scarcely think you can count the sales of "a billion grains of rice" or something on par (or the same ballpark) as a wildly expensive luxury device that everyone was surviving fine without a decade ago.
I believe that you and your ilk DO recognize the significance of a billion of these devices sold in less than nine years (I cannot imagine someone who can't, frankly).
It is as disingenuous as someone who doesn't like Edison claiming that the light bulb is "no big deal". Surely you must sound silly... even to yourselves?

And 16 GB base model... Is it 2009?

Completely true.
[doublepost=1469718625][/doublepost]I do wonder if Apple knocked $100 or $200 off the retail price, how many more iPhones would have been sold. I'd be interested to see the projections on this. For certain, if there were more in circulation, there would be more iTunes, App Store purchases.

LOL, let's see, how do I explain this. I wasn't suggesting womanizing was an 'acheivement'. What I was getting at, sir, is that perhaps you need to get out a little more ... and do something else with your life, ANYTHING ... rather than finding pleasure in how many objects Apple sells.

And by the way, as a poster above pointed out, Nokia sold a quarter of a billion phones in a SINGLE YEAR, TWICE! And during their glory days sold well over 1 billion phones. So, acting like Apple selling that many phones is somehow a transcendent moment in your generation suggests you're infatuation with Apple may be just a tad myopic.

These those one penny on contract Nokia phones you're talking about?

This! I really can't fathom why Apple doesn't cut their margin in half on the SE so they can grab a massive market share in those areas of the world that simply can't afford the flagship models. (only in those markets of course - still hose those of us in NA and other developed countries). :)

I'm sure a big part of why they don't trim margin in the "first world" is due to the warranty and support costs. Just look around all the entitled, whiney buggers here on MR - you know these costs per handset have to be huge.

Tesla cars don't have keys. Car keys have been on their way out for over a decade. I seriously doubt that an Apple car is going to have a key.
